I love them playing this song, they play it like the lament that it is....just hauntingly beautiful. I can't hear this song without tears flowing.

At my dad’s funeral my daughter and nieces played and sang in harmony this song - so tender and Southern like.

Just beautiful... it makes me want to waltz, but it's crushingly sad at the same time. I think it's one Mr. Unger's best works, and this is truly a wonderful performance. Thank you both.

Thank you both for this. Sincerely. Every day life grants us our moments here and there to truly glimpse what makes it worth while. This nearly 6 minute snapshot into your art and your passions were that moment for me today. Please, keep doing what you're doing for as long as you truly love what you do. :)

It was written in America by an American though.

@@alan4sure ....no one is denying that. The point being made is that the roots of American country music (especially Appalachian ) are heavily influenced by Scots/Irish culture. This lament being a typical example. Just as American jazz/blues/rock&roll all have their roots in African rythms.
@alan4sure
@alan4sure 5 жыл бұрын
@@gregorykousourou3543 Yeah, you're right about that. Too bad American pop music doesn't come from Scots/Irish culture ---God knows where it comes from, but I know I can't stand much of that crap. Much of an entire younger generation has been force-fed that swill and they lap it up now. Sad.

fantastic! you drew out the notes and slowed it down but gave it the syncopation to keep the sense of movement. the added climactic motif is also a wonderful addition as well. brings out the guitar and rounds out the peace emotionally for the audience

So lovely. This tune is so hauntingly beautiful. I've been trying to perfect it on my harmonica in the key of D. But never will I get such feeling as you both did right there, but I'm working on it. ;-)

My favorite playing of it. Their version of it is used in the 9/11 video “The People Of 9/11.” In it, there is a picture of a beautiful, elegantly dresses, black lady. Completely covered in ash. It took a few years, I have read, but it killed her. I will always see that picture and hear this song.
