💖Thank Y☺️u for sharing that chant🪷 perhaps it would be also helpful to give translation of the chant word for word which gives greater understanding of What IS chanted rather than just chanting without understanding of it's meaning🙏

there is Sanskrit and its English translation during the chanting. Maybe if it’s going too fast I suggest to pause the video sentence by sentence

I would like to point out that in the 4th line, it's actually "San-saara" not "Samsaara", which literally translates as "world". This one I've found is pronounced everywhere incorrectly among many others. Even though I'm a native nepali speaker and have studied sanskrit in school, ashtanga is a practice that only came to me in my 30s. So I've been practicing online as well, but I saw that even the ones with 24 years in this practice make that exact mistake among many others. It completely takes my focus off instead of getting me ready even though I am totally in awe of the extraordinary flow they've mastered.

Namaste, Thank-you for your message as I truly appreciate these discussions. :) Yes, a common debate from Northern to Southern India. But Panini clearly says in is M. My Samskrit teacher and I sat with this to do more discovery recently and to check the possible formulas- the samsāra cannot be split here. According to Panini Sutra it say similar letter should come to sa then ma only comes. Mostly in South India it would definately be Samsāra; where we are chanting this mainly. Samsara is not a compound word. There will always be debatable words commonly amongst some terms also common with Bramha and Brahma. (of course always spelt Brahma but there are in-depth debates on which way to pronounce. Debates are good! But is seems here Panini has states it is samsāra. @taramitrayoga Namaste, thank you for your insightful reply. 🙏the split part of the word was not intended, I only wanted to stress on the "n" part or rather on how the pronunciation goes. I am aware of it not being a compound word. Also, I agree with the 'Sam' prefix part and other examples. Your comment made me realize my lack of proper knowledge and research, and also how I was only focused on just Nepali/hindi pronunciation of it. I am a bit embarassed here but also grateful that you've brought this comment to my attention. And you are right. This certainly will help me learn better. Thank you again. I really appreciate it. 🙏

1. What is the benefit of chanting this mantra? 2. Is it usually mandatory to chant this mantra everytime, before starting your ashtanga yoga practice?

1. Reciting these verses helps us focus and settle into a good frame of mind for practice. 2. Nothing is mandatory, but in a traditional shala is usually chanted
