HUGE thanks to Joe Gatrill for loaning me one of my favourite frames ever! I actually rode for Ashton years ago and had a prototype of this frame and I remember it rode very well. It's funny that I've signed this at some point somewhere, before Joe got the frame.
I'm stoked to have a bike for each of my heros, Hans, Martyn and Martin...there's a couple of other riders that had cool signature bikes I'd like to get, I'll see what I can do.
Also a huge thanks to Trialtech for the sweet lightweight parts, go check out their site.
www.trialtech.co.uk/
Another thanks to Tartybikes for the spokes/nipples and other parts, hit them up if you are wanting anything for your own build.

Old bikes are addictive. I acquired my original (1996) SC Heckler and thought it was enough, but now I'm balls deep into it with spare room filled with several old Marins, a couple of GTs, a Muddy Fox, an '89 Stumpjumper Team, and that's only the start of it...

Another great build video, really getting into watching these now. Iv just bought a bit of a old school bike a couple of weeks back for my own project. It's a monty hydra with 26" ddg wheels with tioga tyres (new.... ish) red magura hs33 back and front in mint condition with outland bars (probly change these), fsa head set, tranz x stem, single cassette conversion and some other bits and pieces all for a hole £80. Looking forward to getting it out for a ride soon once iv got time to give it the once over and a chain tension and grips. Over all its in good condition.

The mechanic at the bike shop I used to work at many years ago also stood on the spokes to settle them. He had a stack of old rims bolted together (with tabs protruding at the top) so he could rest the wheel on top of stack and fully stand on them with both feet. His wheels were legendary.

The freewheel in the front also prevents the chain from moving while ratcheting back for a pedal kick. That means if you're in rough terain and touching some rocks you prevent the chain from possibly being dropped when moving the cranks back. Also: I find those voiceless videos oddly pleasing, can't even describe why. I don't like games where you have to read everything instead of listening, but your videos are totally relaxing.

As much as I do not like to stop the video to read the text (my gamish English...) I have to admit that they are somewhat nostalgic for me and hmm calming? Those vids without voices - it allows to focus more on the fact of building the bike itself rather than enjoying the video overall - if that makes any sense. Regarding which one is better - well I never liked pink colour either way 😋. And again those wheel axles with nuts - need to get them (are they available for MTBs)? I do not know Mr Ashton personally and met him only through GMBN but his charisma and trials riding knowledge are amazing. Love that guy. Great video as always. Waiting for riding Mr Ali! 😉

In my theory, moving chain is streching more evenly, because every backward crank movement (pedalkick preload) doesn't utilize same part of the chain. But on a freehub you will always use the same chain spot until making a fullcircle crank rotation. P.S. nice finger bending ability at 17:02!

Another reason for running a front freewheel is so that you could run a dishless rear wheel, which is why you mainly saw them on Mods(20”) back in the day and on some European stock bikes(26”). The old front freewheel set up was a pain years ago and they were screw on only and kept undoing themselves, also if you bent you bb axle the freewheel would be pissed. When I had my megamo, or Brisa for example I just ran a rear hope ti glide or King hub. Damn I need to get back into trials ffs.

I knew this was coming haha! I had a moan on Instagram because I never managed to get one! I was always a bit snobby about the Diamondback ones, I've spent most of my life riding BMX & dipping in & out of Trials over the years, Diamondback don't exactly have a good reputation! If I could get an OG Justice I think I'd melt lol. I can only imagine how insane that bike would be if you'd gone all out, no costs spared! I do have to say though, it 100% needs Red Forks!

Another reason for the front freewheel is because it looks cool to have a moving chain when you're coasting. Jokes aside, just speculation but having the freewheel at the crank means it's bigger so more room to fit more clicks into the ratchet mechanism.
