To you this is about entertainment. Different capabilities would have been more interesting to you than the same old stuff. But there is actually a deeper meaning to all of this. It shows how there is this eternal battle between these two forces. They are actually pretty abstract and hard to define, but they encapsulate ideas of Good and Evil, Love and Hate, Trust and Doubt, Positive and Negative. Both Naruto & Ashura and Sasuke & Indra are mere metaphors of these concepts. This beautiful idea would become obscured if they were less similar to one another.

Indra never used Chidori, because it was invented by Kakashi, and stemmed from the Rasengan in the first place. Nothing would become "obscured" if the anime actually followed the canon version of the story more, and there really isn't any deeper meaning to it. The manga didn't elaborate too much on the specifics of the story, the anime needed filler, and the animators defaulted to using Naruto and Sasuke's techniques for Asura and Indra because they couldn't think of anything else to do. Moreover, if this was all as "beautiful" as you claim, then it would still remain so regardless of what the characters' fighting style is. Beauty doesn't have to be obvious and in your face, if it needs that to get its' point across, it's not beautiful, it's lazy, shallow writing, with very little substance beneath the surface level. As is, this story is full of plot holes and attempted retcons, and outright conflicts with the entirety of the Naruto series, to the point that aside from it's most bare-bones story elements, the ones that were taken from the manga, it can never be canon. None of it is particularly abstract or hard to define, either, the whole story of Indra and Asura wasn't particularly original to begin with, being full of tropes and cliches, basically being a re-telling of dozens and dozens of other stories, based off of the same concepts, some existing for hundreds if not thousands of years as part of different mythologies, all around the globe. It's obvious enough that something very simillar exists in just about every culture in the world, and in modern times, across dozens of novels, films, and other media, from the sheer number of people that came up with the exact same idea.

As a rule, anything that shows up in the anime, and not the manga, is non-canon filler, mostly used to pad out the episode count while the studio waits for more chapters, since they can't adapt chapters that don't exist yet, and have to stick to a release schedule. In the manga, Asura didn't know Rasengan, because it was invented by Minato, and did not exist prior. Indra didn't know Chidori, because it was invented by Kakashi, not to mention the fact it's literally a failed attempt to imbue the Rasengan with elemental chakra nature, in the style of Rasenshuriken. I don't think Asura was shown or mentioned to be using Wood Style, either, though I may be wrong on that one. The only canon abilities these characters used throughout this filler arc, is Asura's three-headed avatar, and Indra's Sharingan and Susanoo. Everything else was the animation studio defaulting to how Naruto and Sasuke fight, because they couldn't come up with anything else... even the whole story of Hagoromo testing them with restoring different lands isn't actually canon, though that part at least does not conflict with any existing lore unlike some of the other parts.

And if it wasn't for Hagoromo and Hamura, Kaguya would've taken all of the chakra back, become a tyrant, and estabilished a worldwide dictatorship in which noone would have chakra anyways once it'd be re-absorbed. They can thank Kaguya for chakra in roughly the same way we can thank Nazis for certain scientific advancements. Do those things exist because of those figures? Yes. Do they deserve any praise for it? No.
