Jim used to hang out in an old dive bar in the Hollywood hills, a run down relic of the 1930's. They had some old bungalows in the back. They'd get shit faced and crash or party the humpty dance all night. "I woke up this morning and got myself a beer... The futures uncertain and the end is always near" has stuck with me for decades. F*ck it! You may as well enjoy it now cause, who knows? We're only in this a short time. Like Lennon said; why are we here, surly not to live in pain and fear. Jim Morrison was a poet first and then became a singer. Avant-garde. He just oozed sex. The soul, power, blending with his words is magic. Nobody in the day came close. Brilliant.

When I graduated from high school in 1984 my brother invited me to Mexico to help him drive from Chicago he finally gave me the wheel somewhere in the middle of Texas it must have been about 12 midnight and I was falling asleep I did things like roll down the window get some fresh air in my face and I was putting in some music I noticed that my brother had a cassette of the doors so I popped it in I remember listening for the whole first sight of the and feeling very tired and my head bobbing and trying to shake off the tiredness I remember the song ending and when the cassette went to the other side the first song was Roadhouse Blues in my sleep I can hear the intro of this song and of course the first words that are spoken are keep your eyes on the road your hands upon the wheel I heard that and I woke up I began to sweat knowing that I was asleep at the wheel I exited at the next stopped and went into the gasoline station and grabbed everything that contains caffeine I realize later as I got older nor my brother and his family I just thank God that he was looking out for us but every time I hear Roadhouse Blues it reminds me of that night on our trip to Mexico

The Doors film was good enough to get me into the band, but was heavily criticised for being historically inaccurate and for creating a false impression of Jim Morrison. Look up the real Jim Morrison on loads of documentaries available online. Æ 🙏
@clarenceworley3714
@clarenceworley3714 Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't go as far as saying it's a must see; the movie was filled with bullshit. Jim didn't scream "higher" on the Sullivan Show, they didn't show an upclose shot of his crotch, nor did he set a closet on fire with Pam inside along with a lot more made up or exaggerated instances Stone put into the film. If you really want to know what Jim was like read the band members memoirs and listen to his interviews done by Howard Smith and Ben Fong-Torres. And last but not least only read No One Here Gets Out Alive knowing it's not completely accurate and feeds into the Morrison myth.

Morrison, man. And those dudes behind him taking him wherever he wants to go. And that voice.....Crooner, Bluesman, soft, spoken and a primal roar like no other. As a singer alone, he was top of the range. On this tune he insisted on being drunk when he recorded it. He was so right. That character singing sounds 100% legit.

BJ, you nailed the analysis on this one. Also, Morrison was underrated as a vocalist- he had quite a powerful voice and superb raspy tone. Definitely one of the sixties hard rock/blues songs that belongs in a space time capsule to represent the sound of the sixties. Unmatched accompaniment by the instruments esp. the killer guitar solo on this one!

With most of the Doors' music, I prefer the original mixes. The remastered stuff just seems to be more of an attempt to keep the music fresh by changing it slightly, rather than an improvement of sound quality from different takes. That said, I believe both versions are still available, so take your pick.
