I ran in the Asics Gel Cumulus 23 all last summer. Awesome pair of shoes. Finished them off with a flat 50 mile road race at the end of summer. Got them to about 430 miles before developing a knee issue, but I don't think it was because of the shoe. Just did not have a good recovery and strength routine. This review makes me want to get the 24s, but you also make me want to try Puma!

I have the cumulus 23 and it's a good light shoe but lacks more comfort for my taste..the durometer for the cumulus 23 is 40 so not the best shock absortion..the 24 is 37 so more comfort obviously..will give it a try on!

I love this shoe. Even excells on treadmills. I was shock how good this shoe did for sprints. It rivils the fastest shoes I own. I was running 1 block hitting 22 MPH and the shoe did get a lttle un-stable. It was bouncing so fast I almost could not keep up.

Currently running in the nimbus 24 and you seemed to not like the shoe very much but seem to like the cumulus 24. They are very similar this year besides the small trusic system in the nimbus, weight is basiclly identical but the nimbus has the fight foam blast + midsole which is even more butter. 🤔

As much as the score is important, the fact you say you’re sad when having to retire a shoe speaks more volume. To me, that sounds like it is a really good shoe, and that’s usually enough for me. Also, if you like this shoe, but don’t want the gel, purchase the Novablast 2. Same price point, no gel, same durability, pretty much the same weight, all FFBlast, and I think we all know how good the Novablast is.
@dejn7046
@dejn7046 2 жыл бұрын
Not really. Novablast is so unstable compared to Gel Cumulus. I bought Novablast2 but the lack of stability forced me to send it back and go for Cumulus 23 instead. Best decision (for me). Anyway, I'm not saying Novablast is a bad shoe, but I would not consuder it alternative for Gel Cumulus. The feeling is completely different.

Hi Seth - should the fit criteria just be a binary score? If this shoe fits true to size and has no issues in that department, hasn’t it achieved a 100% score and there’s nothing else Asics can really do? You gave it a “standard score” of 7.5 which could be holding it back from reaching the 8s artificially so to speak. I’m not partial to the cumulus, just curious about your methodology. On that note, if there is a shortlist of shoes in the 8s, will there ever be shoes in the 9s or even a 10/10? It seems like most shoes are converging on a very tight 6-8 score scale.

Hi Seth, I have skinny feet and I have problems in finding the right number and right shoe because I feel that my feet are either not very well locked into the shoe or if I choose a half number less that the shoe is too tight in the front and my thumb touches the end. Which is the best shoes for lockdown scoring in your opinion? Would you be able to recommend me a running shoe with a solid upper and foot lockdown?

Seth, I know you love a durometer in the 36-42 range. I personally gravitate towards shoes with a firmer midsole, such as the Saucony Ride, which is probably closer to 42-48. Here's my question: I'm 195lbs at 6'2. Do you think that firmer rides are generally more tolerable for heavier people since our weight can compress the foam better? I find the durability of foams in your preferred range die out VERY fast for me. Any other heavier runners, please chime in on your experience! Cheers!

I have very similar height and weight and also have a preference for firm midsoles. The Saucony Ride 13 is one of my favorites and I never felt the need for any more softness no matter the distance or type of run.

That's my suspicion as well, also the product of weight and foot size. Smaller and heavier vs larger and lighter I think plays a bigger role in the experience of a midsole than we give credit

Hey Danny. Not trying to steal any of Seth’s thunder, but heavier runners is what I’ve geared my channel toward. To answer your question, yes. I’ve found shoes that are usually firmer to be perfect for us. I’m about 220lbs. Shoes like the Adidas Boston 10 (notorious for feeling like a brick to most ShoeTubers) are actually great for us. We can compress that midsole foam and really show what it can do. It’s another reason why I like Nike React shoes. Now, I will say I love the Asics FFBlast foam. Even for a heavier runner, it’s soft and quick to return to its regular shape, and doesn’t feel like it bottoms out, or loses its cushioning throughout the run. One of the few soft foams that can do that.

Question about varying my training; a knee injury suffered back in 1999 still prevents me from increasing speed while running. I can run for hours without problem if I go slow, but as soon as I pick up the speed even a little bit, let’s say closer to 5 min/km, my knee starts acting up and I risk needing to take time off from running. I’m now training for my 1st marathon in May, and basically this means that all my runs are either easy or long runs which gets monotonous. I realize I’m never going to run a Marathon much below 4 hours, but I would anyway like to vary my running/training. What other forms of training would you recommend to substitute faster runs with? Could hill running be an option to get high intensity in a short time frame? Other methods?
@i.p2088
@i.p2088 2 жыл бұрын
I have the same problem... Option one is loose weight. It improved the speed my knees accept. I can run fast in only one shoe (and I have many more..) it is the New Balance RC Elite V2. The softness and energy return save my legs. Can't do it with other shoes. Might be worth a look. I do run up a steep hill because you can keep the slow pace. But don't do to much or you will break something..

@KenanTurkiye
@KenanTurkiye 2 жыл бұрын
I haven't used either, not in their 24 variants, but I have used the 23 variants and also Novablast 2's, and looked into many reviews, so what I am about to write is an assumption. The idea I got from my research so far is that the FFBlast+ midsole in the Nimbus 24 is much squishier, where as the FFBlast in the Cumulus 24 not so and is considered more responsive for faster runs compared to the Nimbus 24, which means if you want out right comfort WHILE walking the Nimbus 24 may be better of the two. But because it is more squishy compared to the Cumulus 24 midsole, you might not like that much cushioning and prefer the Cumulus 24. lol So, in the end its about preference. : ) Hope that didn't make things more confusing.

@mdsmith1019
@mdsmith1019 2 жыл бұрын
I think the foam is the MAIN difference but I haven't run in the Nimbus 24. The Nimbus uses ffblast PLUS while the Cumulus uses "normal" ffblast. I think ffblast+ is softer and bouncier but the Nimbus also has a trussic plate so it could also be more stable. All that said, I've been very pleasantly surprised at the Cumulus 24 and can't imagine the Nimbus is worth the extra $20 but wmI can't say for sure.

@cameronmore1753 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Seth, I think some of your reviews are a bit too harsh. Like this shoe, does the scrunching really knock the score down all the way into the 6s? And even the 1080 you just reviewed, and this one, both shoes you really enjoyed, and it seems like you are excited and happy enough with them that they should never in the 8s? Every shoe is around 7.5-7.8 and I feel like that doesn't reflect enough the actual difference between the shoes you think are average versus above average. I love the channel and reviews, the family life and everything, I just wanted to say I think you may be a little harsh or too narrow with some of your scores. Like at this rate I feel like we will never get another shoe in the 9s ever.
