i just wanted to add on that there are some religions such as Jurema Sagrada, which focus more on the indigenous heritage and ancestry and traditions, spirits and so on. And some people in brazil are also trying to bring certain indigenous deities such as Tupã, Jaci, etc. into visibility and as a more ingrained detail in brazilian spirituality. But of course, that is difficult, since a lot of these come from ethcnicities and cultures the average brazilian person is not connected to, even though a vast majority of our population has some indigenous blood in them somewhere down the line.

I can't wait to watch the full video. I know a bit about umbanda and condomble. I practice Haitian Vodou so love learning about other African diaspora traditions And traditional African traditions

It warms my heart to see my culture and practice being talked about in english media. A lot of what we see surrounding witchcraft is all english and heavily influenced by american and english culture, so when you try to explain something in another cultural context... it can be really hard to be understood and feel seen. What I love about Umbanda is that EVERYONE is welcome into the religion. No matter your nationality, your past, your sexuality or skin color, if you call to your Orishas, exu, pombagira, caboclo, preto velho, etc they will hear you. If I as a white person say I work with and worship Oshun without any additional context I would be flamed for cultural appropriation, even though I grew up surrounded by the Orishas. But if you spread awareness of these lesser known cultures, perhaps people will be curious and less eager to judge

I would love to learn more about Afro Brazilian cults and religions. There's is not much info on Quimbanda

OMG I'm also Brazilian and I'm way more connected with European traditions because my roots (I'm from the south of Brasil and a mix of Italians, Portuguese, Spanish and even Sweden descendance, what make me a very Brazilian typical person 😅), but I'm loving to know more about this side of Brazil culture! I will follow Aster for sure 🥰 And I can confirm that "Simpatia" is very common practice even with very catholic persons... Like light a candle for a saint or offer a glass of water, doing a 3/9 or 30 day prayer cycle is also very common 😜

Yes espiritismo is in a lot of Diasporic traditions to add what may been lost from the Traditional religions but vary from culture to culture. Some may have the Christian influence. Some Dont.

I was always a non-Christian espírita before I turned to Heathenry, and everybody at the centro espírita were blue collar, so maybe that's a reductionist way of explaining that kind of spirituality. It's not a religion, it's more of a way of looking at the world, and everybody is welcome. Anyone who knows how it works is aware of that. Calling it white washed is condescending and kind of offensive. I disagree with that take, especially because I have had much more experience with that type of spirituality than the person you're interviewing. I feel like espiritismo is not something she has experienced first hand, so she's misrepresenting it.
