it almost begs for the virus not to end, so we get more of these, but on the other hand, we need you to play concerts.

I crazy love these harmonics series...I'm now trying bow speed, mixing natural harmonics in fast arpeggios, artificial 4th vs 5th(I've just learned that from you Augustin that 5th rings better and more tolerant even if I'm a bit off. What awesome demonstrations of Sibelius, Carmen, and Paganini. We're not worthyyyy. Heifetz teaches "WHAT" to do...Augustin teaches "HOW" to do.LOL

really fascinating; and the violin seems to be the most difficult instrument to master, in the whole history of music. Thank you very much for sharing these advices and explanations. ps: Your Eugêne Yasaÿe recordings are incredible, thank you so much for your interpretions of his crazy music

Excellent set of mini tips for a difficult technique to get right! I have the same issue on my old German instrument with third harmonics not speaking easily and find bow speed (higher speed than on other harmonics) and placement (remember exactly where in relation to the bridge they speak best) absolutely critical.

Oh my god, that charming smile and playing all these harmonics like a god ✨✨✨ -where does it leave us mere mortals? 😉 Still, fantastic to hear that it CAN be done, and so beautifully…

In the 3rd movement of Paganini’s 1st Concerto, there is a passage alternating between playing high on the G string, and then echoing it with harmonics. There is one place with sixteenth notes in harmonics where you seem to have a very interesting fingering. Instead of sliding around you stay in position and just move your fingers to play several notes in harmonics. What are you doing there? It seems almost like magic. Also there is a place a little later in the passage where you seem to be doing harmonic trills by just moving one finger. How?

I spent a day working repeatedly on G string passages and got bigger calluses. Now I can't play harmonics with my 1st and 2nd finger as well.

I just watched you fantastic Sibelius Concerto with the Iceland Symphony and Eva Ollikainen. I just want to know why you did not choose a harmonic on the last note of the second movement. Some say that it sounds too low, but then one misses the quality of a silvery surface of a waveless sea.

How about giving people a short piano piece to play, send in, and pick a few to add the violin with? Many are likely very good amateurs. Then do the split-screen thing? Give lockdown people a chance to have a short video with a world-class virtuoso, even if it will never make the RCA label or whatever?

how high do thirds harmonics sound relative to the root note?
@AugustinHadelichViolin
@AugustinHadelichViolin 4 жыл бұрын
2 octaves higher than the upper note (the one that's touched lightly), so an octave+ a tenth above the root note.
