Welcome back to another episode of The Viall Files: Ask Nick Edition! We’re back to answer your burning questions about the world of dating and relationships. We start off with a written Ask Nick, who’s boyfriend is still friends with his exes and likes other girls’ photos on instagram. Then we get to our caller…
Our first caller is in a situationship with a coworker, who has a c*m kink. She’s caught feelings for him, and feels used just for s*x. Our second caller has a coworker, who’s married, and can be a little too touchy. She’s unsure whether he’s flirting with her and wants to set boundaries. Our final caller left the Mormon church and is struggling to receive her mom’s acceptance. She knows her mom loves her, but doesn’t appreciate the constant efforts to force her back in the religion.
“See it for what it is, rather than making excuses for it and then masking it as you being empathetic”

The caller about her coworker is either insanely naive or secretly likes the attention he’s giving her. The guy definitely crossed the line.

I agree, I don't know why they don't do warnings on this show! Also her real reason for being on the show had to do with her partner abandoning her, it had nothing really to do with her partner's kink so I don't know why she had to share that.

First time I don’t agree with nicks advice for the writeriner. I don’t understand why he “took” the writers side instead of holding her accountable of her own actions. She told the guy she didn’t want a relationship with him eventually the guy moved on which hurt her ego (how dare he move on when someone doesn’t want a relationship with him). I think Nick should’ve give her some tough love as he usually does in those cases of one acting as “fuckboy”. But I do agree with the saying that she lost the power in the “relationship” that’s why she so “obsessed” and think she lost something.

I hope everyone understands I'm not shading anyone's height here, but the caller who said maybe her 5'3 frame was the reason ppl don't respect her "no"... I don't deny that being physically shorter can make a person feel more vulnerable. But I'm a woman who is 6'0 and 145lbs. I still have a lot of shitty men not want to listen to "no". Height is kind of irrelevant, IMO. Men like to push boundaries. They just do. ... well, the bad ones. And I understand saying No to "everything past this makeout sesh", but unless they prove they will stop, as women, we do have to shut it down. Bc they will just keep trying to creep over that line. Just bc I'm taller doesn't mean I'm immune to the issue bc men are stronger than women in general. But bottom line, doll, we are people pleasers and THAT'S why we do this crap. Just shut it down. We don't have to get them off.

The woman who wrote was told lies and used for sex, then rejected. Simple as that. First caller is trying to justify and make excuses for her promiscuous behavior. At 28 she should know better. Second caller deep down likes the inappropriate behavior by her married male co-worker. She is playing with fire condoning and justifying it. It's not platonic on his end and she needs to reject him firmly.

Oh my god I can’t believe this conversation is still being had with such little tact and awareness. Coercion is not consent!! No means no from the beginning regardless of the tone it is said in. Quit giving sexual predators excuses Jesus Christ. ESPECIALLY since it’s a senior level coworker 15 years older than her. The man in this situation should have never never never perused a relationship with her, and he never should have pushed in that way. Nothing is her fault.
@seven92023
@seven92023 4 ай бұрын
Men pursue, women accept. She chose to play along with the gross kinky guy and give him BJ. Choices come with accountability. She admits to ignoring red flags - that's a fault. He pursued for sex, she assumed for something more serious. There are plenty of faults on her part. Quit giving promiscuous women excuses.
@leavemealone7751

I actually think you are the one robbing this conversation of nuance and awareness. This is not a true definition of "coercion" although it's definitely being billed that way in the media. Women are not powerless in the presence of men, if we mean no, we are more than capable and rightful to get that "no" heard and accepted. Coercion implies blackmail, extortion, threats, etc. not just asking again and again. I agree that man here sounds like a predator absolutely, AND it is important that people feel empowered to enforce their boundaries, even if it is scary at first. You are allowed to say NO and MEAN IT. You can LEAVE, you CAN call a friend, you CAN take steps to prioritize your safety. Two things can be true: 1) That man was a gnarly pig and frankly a public safety concern and 2) If the caller wants to enforce her boundaries more in the future she IS capable and completely within her rights to do so.
@yakatya539
@yakatya539 4 ай бұрын
@@leavemealone7751 you’re wrong. This situation definitely falls into the definition of sexual coercion. I hope your point of view and ignorance is coming from you not experiencing this type of situation. It would never cross my mind to continue asking after someone says no. Whether it’s in a stern tone or not. What you are saying is exactly how predators blur the lines and avoid accountability. Women are socialized to never make men uncomfortable and that’s why it’s common to eventually “give in”. That doesn’t change the fact that the man kept persisting after “no”.
@leavemealone7751
@leavemealone7751 4 ай бұрын
@@yakatya539 I don't think I am wrong about the definition of coercion. You are completely erasing this woman from her own experience. He is wrong for his actions. There's no debating that. He is not the only person in this situation though, her feelings are important as well, her decisions also matter. I agree that women are socialized never to make men feel uncomfortable, and people like you take that one step further and insist that women should always be afraid to assert themselves in a sexual context.. You are the one who is insisting that women have no power here. You are actively taking part in socializing women to feel as though they are not allowed or able to stand up for themselves when they are alone, in an intimate setting with men. Your message is essentially: "If you feel like you are being discounted, disrespected or victimized just lay there and take it because there is nothing you can do about it." If you are having sex with violent rapist, there is little to nothing you can do about it, because they are not taking your wants/needs into consideration AND are willing to physically hurt you to get what they want. If you are having sex with a pushy asshole, you can say no if you don't want to have sex, leave and end up not having sex. There is a difference between those experiences and it is worth it to encourage anyone who feels like they are being steamrolled by their sexual/romantic partners to stand up for their boundaries. You can do that and also insist on accountability from predators.

As a member of the LDS religion the statement that the church expects you to be perfect is factually untrue. The church expects us to be bettering ourselves through discipleship of Jesus Christ. I don’t think you have to be part of any religion to know that being perfect is not possible and a ridiculous ask or expectation. Also I don’t think it is manipulative for someone to ask their child in this instance to do something they find to be of value and important especially knowing that mom has been taught her whole life that reading scriptures is a top priority. I do think mom could have gone about it in a lot healthier way and does need to respect her daughter’s boundaries and wishes.
