@rubberduckgrrl asked on Twitter: "Is there any way to remove the waxy buildup on grapes?"
The test cooks at America's Test Kitchen answer your cooking questions straight from the kitchen.
To ask a question, tweet us @TestKitchen or ask us on Facebook:
/ americastestkitchen .
Due to the high volume of questions, we are not able to answer every single one. We try our best, but the test cooks have to get back to testing recipes!
America's Test Kitchen is a real 2,500 square foot test kitchen located just outside of Boston that is home to more than three dozen full-time cooks and product testers. Our mission is simple: to develop the absolute best recipes for all of your favorite foods. To do this, we test each recipe 30, 40, sometimes as many as 70 times, until we arrive at the combination of ingredients, technique, temperature, cooking time, and equipment that yields the best, most-foolproof recipe.

if you want to wash all your grapes quickly, put them in a plastic bag, fill it with some water, and do it like a washing machine, side to side, in circles, etc. put them in a stainer, and rinse a last time.

Just got out the car scratching my testies....cough a few times in my hand- because that's nasty! Grab a few grapes out of the bag....taste one, and it's not sweet as I like, and toss the others back in the bag. Do it again with the green ones this time, and they're not sweet either. So yeah, don't wash it....it's harmless pubes and germs.

After I wash the grapes, I want to freeze them. Do I need to take them off of the stem or can I leave them on the stem?
@gibfeet8992

@karenbernard6041
@karenbernard6041 2 жыл бұрын
You can't throughly washing them on the stem. You have to take every one of them off the stem, wash them completely, bag them in any sized freezer bag and then you can freeze them.

Really? It's just a natural yeast on the grapes. I always wash my grapes. Never thought twice about the waxy build up and apparently it's harmless, why make more work for yourself?
@rickborland661
@rickborland661 3 жыл бұрын
Conventional or non-organic grapes are loaded with harmful pesticides, which she didn't mention, but this solution is supposed to remove 98% of these pesticides after a 5-10 minute soak and rinse.
