Are you are asking yourself 'Will my laptop work without a battery?'
This video shows proof that a laptop will work without a battery as I take my (completely functional) laptop apart, disconnect the battery, and show that it will still power on without issue as long as the AC adapter is plugged in.
If you are having issues with your current battery, you are looking to replace your battery, or just want to run your laptop like a desktop then this video shows that it is possible.
If this video helped you, consider supporting the channel directly!

00:00 - Intro and quick answer
00:47 - How a laptop works without a battery
03:13 - Removing the battery from my laptop for proof
Although laptops are designed to run with batteries, Windows treats the battery and the AC adapter as two completely separate devices and can function with the battery disabled or even completely uninstalled from the laptop.

Oh wow thank you so much Sir for this wonderful video! I’m a freelance digital artist and my laptop battery was swollen so I’m still waiting for replacement. I came across this video and it’s a total life saver! Thank you! I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to work for the next days or weeks having to wait for replacement. Plus this is a great tip considering I work a lot on the computer which could help minimize battery issues in the future.

Hi! Thank you for the video. May I ask, whether we can disable battery even if we cannot access device manager? My computer stopped opening. So I researched and saw that it is a battery issue. Opened up the computer and took the battery out. Indeed there was problem. It was swallen. Yet now I plug the computer by the adaptor and it does not open. So is there any way to do the same thing you did (disable the battery) without turning on the computer? I usually take out my battery and just use the adapter only when am at home, if I go traveling I will insert the battery and use my laptop when am on an airplane. I mean other than that. If you’re just using the laptop at home there really is no need to use it unless you’re traveling. But using it without the battery won’t harm your laptop in anyway I’ve been using it that way for years on my old laptops and never had any issues. More convenient.

Hey! I am also using a razer laptop. Razer stealth 13 to be exact. I am not sure if the problem is my adapter or my laptop battery. My laptop does not seem bloated and gpu temperature usually reaches 27-54°. It only reaches the highest when I play games. Other than that it stays at home unmoved, untouched. I baby it and blow off dust and wipe away some oil. I wouldn’t want to purchase a $100 official razer adapter just to find out the problem was the battery. I ended up purchasing an adapter from amazon and it hasn’t come in yet. If it still won’t charge, I might do what you did for 2 years. Did you remove the battery yourself or just left it in and keep disabling the driver/device?

if you use laptop without battery, check Properties of the ssd or hdd and turn off write optimizations, as Windows may not flush all data to disk. In case power fails for a few seconds, it can lose some of your data or corrupt the disk. If you have battery in, you can leave it enabled.

Just found it the problem is my power brick. My dad's an electrical engineer and he said he wouldn't recommend using the razer laptop without the battery because the power or electricity coming in is not filtered without a battery (whatever that means). Ended up purchasing a 100W GAD brick from amazon and microcenter and it works nice.

I have few questions in mind. Can you please answer them? If i disable the battery in software does that means that my laptop is now getting power directly from the wall? What will happen if the power goes out or i unplug the power cable accidently from the laptop while it's running? Will it turn off like a bulb or will it automatically just to get power back from the battery to keep running like normal? Will my laptop turn on without the power cable if the battery is disabled in the software or do i have to now always connect my laptop to the wall outlet to get power and use it?

@AskaComputerGeek
@AskaComputerGeek 3 жыл бұрын
I can't say with certainty but I would imagine that your laptop would behave exactly the same whether you have a battery installed or not during a power surge because the AC adapter doesn't plug directly into the battery itself so your laptop's other components will still experience the surge. Of course, using a quality surge protector is ideal in either scenario!
@nilsfrahm1323
@nilsfrahm1323 2 жыл бұрын
Usually the power adapter is isolated, it has capacitors that act like bottles for power and it very quickly fills them up to ensure they never get empty as laptop drains them. At same time, it makes lower voltage, like 19V, and those circuits adapt quickly to various input voltages. There are also fuses and protective diodes. If such a diode gets shorted due to a surge to protect your mainboard or hdd, you can take it to repair shop to replace just the burnt diode and it will work again. It's possible to just remove that diode, but you will have no more protection for next time. I had this happen to a hard drive, I played with some power wires and put them wrong.

My Everex is quite old and the battery will not charge. In fact, the battery seems to prevent the laptop from functioning properly; that is, after about a minute it shuts down. Once one removes the battery, it works nicely. QUESTION: if I disable the battery as shown in your video, would you expect the laptop to work properly even if the battery is connected to the rest of the unit??

I want my 2-in-1 to do something. Let me explain... *_I'm tired of plugging in and out my Microsoft Surface Pro 3. Normally, if you receive a low batt warning, you should plug it in and unplug it when fully charged. I rarely bring my SP3 out of the house and it usually serves as our "desktop" connected to a big TV via HDMI._* *I want to leave the charger "permanently" connected but I want the actual charging to be manually controlled by me through software.* How can I do this? Or is there even a way to do it? TIA.

I imagine there would need to be some kind of controller in place to recognise the interruption and switch over. Tho this would be a pretty cool functionality, like an internal ups that kicks in only when there’s a power loss.

Question. If i turn the device off and run out of energy in my house (the notebook will turn off 'cause it's getting it's power from the wall) and try to boot my notebook without the power suply, for example, will it automatically recognize the notebook's battery and boot using it?

Can I just disabling the batteries in the device manager instead of disconnect & remove it out?

Hi, I have a question. Despite removing the battery from the device manager I noticed that it still got charged to its full capacity. I am doing this to preserve the battery life so I was wondering if it's better if I just use the battery and unplug it when it's fully charged or if it won't get damaged as long as I disable it.
@Kuchuflaz

Disabling Battery Manager in control panel will only stop the windows service, but physically if you connect charging plug to laptop will still exists a electrical connection between charger and battery, so YES YOUR BATTERY WILL BE FULLY CHARGED in some time, and of course the life time of battery will be reduced. The only way to prevent or care battery is physically disconnect the battery from the main board.

Essentially, can I use my laptop on power and shutdown while in power and take it out of power when not in use without damaging the laptop?

So it is practically the same to disable the battery driver than removing the battery from the laptop? I mean, if turning off the battery driver means that the laptop doesn't recognize the battery and can only work with the AC plugged in, it would be the same than removing the battery in practical terms, wouldn't it?

from what i have experienced, no, when you plug the laptop to wall power, it also will charge the battery untill it reaches 100%. so in other words, windows won't tell you about the battery's existence, but will still charge the battery.
