Hi! I am Dr. DeAvila Sadé, DBH, LCSW, a Millennial Mental Health Therapist. Every Sunday, I post new videos on my channel (sometimes an additional video on Wednesdays)! I share my knowledge regarding mental health, my microlocs journey, and travel vlogs. This channel is not a replacement for working independently with a trained therapist. It is here to provide insight into things that impact us all so we can show up in this world as our most authentic selves.

I like the red. I think that the darker reddish brown strands give your hair color more depth (like when people get highlights and low lights for depth). You should keep it.😊I have been loc'd for almost 5 months now, and they're not mature yet. Your locs were some of many that I looked at when making my decision to try locs. I love the way your mature locs look. I use a mixture of tea tree, peppermint (for itch) and coconut oil on my scalp once a week after every wash. So far so good, but thanks for sharing your issue with the coconut oil. I will be on the lookout for any break outs because I have had acne in the past.

Your loc’s look just fine! If I were next to you I would’ve told you not to bleach…that’s what I’ve done but in my own defense I’ve been bleaching my hair for years but only loc’ed for 4years so I was trying to keep it blonde. The damage will happen and you won’t see it at first. With that just leave it alone and let it grow out. You’re still going to need to condition your hair but dilute whatever you already have and make it as runny as leave in conditioner then rinse it out because bleach is hard on hair and you will loose it if you don’t take care of those ends. Rinse well each and every time! Someone else gave you a great tip for the oil so I won’t go into that! Stay beautiful!!

Thank you for all of this! I definitely need to really dilute it!

I feel you on the edges. That’s the only part of my scalp that I oil lightly.

If you’re still wanting to re-color in a few months I think the dyed pieces would look dope toned down to a deep brown. Kinda of a sun bleached natural highlight throughout the hair. Either way your hair is gorgeous ❤

I, like you, also suffer from sebhorreic dermatitis. I recently started using Massey's Probiotic soap. Amazing results from the 1st wash!!! I stopped using oil on my scalp also, and thought that my scalp would suffer. Absolutely the opposite!. I, now spray it with a water and essential oil mix, and massage everyday and night! My dermatologist recommended the livso shampoo/conditioner set that also comes with a scalp and hair lotion. I don't use the shampoo/conditioner that much, but that lotion is a game changer! Using rosemary essential oil will also help grow your edges and hair. I tried not to make this too long, but just wanted to share some things that have worked great for me and scalp. Love your locs and your energy!

Love your energy it’s infectious. 😊 if you really want to add oil try jojoba oil it’s the one that closest to our natural sebum & this oil has helped both my sons on their natural hair are journey & sebhorric dermatitis we stopped using Nizoral medicated shampoo now & use a regular daily detox one. I usually add oil to their hair after a shampoo & mabybe once during the week but we use very little. I personally use avocado oil it leaves my locs soft & shiny, as for coconut oil it’s one of the worst as it’s a solid oil & adds nothing to hair it’s better for cooking or skincare. Keep experimenting you’ll find one 🇬🇧😊

Maybe, just maybe Ayurvedic DIY herbal oil. My teen has SD and that has been the only oil she can use 1x a week, on her scalp only and no flare up. She also uses acv diluted with water 3/4 acv on her scalp prior to shampooing. She let it sit for about 10 minutes then use a shampoo brush and gently rub scalp in circular motions then shampoo hair. Her scalp has been thriving. No flare ups.

Try adding collagen peptides to your diet daily for hair growth. It has worked for me! I’ve been using it for about 3 years. Research it.
