The handout of today's lesson: gracemandarinchinese.com/aski...
Today's lesson is about how to ask questions in Chinese.
The Mandarin question words of this video include what, when, where and why.
After watching this video, you'll learn how to use "什麼(什么) what", "什麼時候(什么时候)when", “什麼地方 / 哪裡(什么地方 / 哪里)where ” and "為什麼(为什么)why".
For each word, I gave two examples which can help you know the usage of them; furthermore, I talked about some sentence structure of these examples in order to make it more easy to learn and remember!
I'll teach more question words in the future, remember to subscribe to my channel so that you won't miss any lesson!
The timecode of four question words:
01:00 (1) 什麼(什么) what
03:07 (2) 什麼時候(什么时候)when
05:24 (3) 什麼地方 / 哪裡(什么地方 / 哪里)where
07:45 (4) 為什麼(为什么)why

Interesting how you show both traditional and simplified characters. It's nice to be able to see the difference between them; the apps and lessons I've used for Chinese never seem to show the traditional characters.

Thank you so much for this video and I'm glad to finally have found a Chinese video/channel with traditional characters. I applied for a scholarship to study Mandarin Chinese in Taiwan and now that I'm here (learning the traditional characters) I find it not that easy to find videos with traditional characters. I will look at some more of your videos, already subscribed! 非常感謝你!

Reason for learning Chinese: I learned Japanese for the past year (and am still going), and really liked the meaning-based writing of Kanji there, which got me interested in their origin language, Chinese. Also, I just like writing systems in general, and the purely logographical (语素文字) writing of Chinese certainly is by far the most unique and interesting one among all that are still used today. By the way, I really like your channel! With language learning especially, it's so difficult to find good quality videos among all the clickbait and nonsense on KZfaq, so I'm very glad I found yours. Your explanations, tips and examples are always very helpful and the style of your videos is very pleasant. Also, thank you very much for adding readings in ㄓㄨˋ ㄧㄣˉ ! While of course Pinyin works fine, I find Zhuyin quite helpful in more easily remembering readings, since it's less characters. Have a nice day :)

Miss Grace would you consider doing a video on BoPoMoFo (I guess also called Zhuyin)? All of the learning materials in the US teach Simplified Mandarin using Pinyin. Can't find much over here on using the traditional strokes.

Wow, that's so interesting, because in (Brazilian) Portuguese we also keep the word order and just replaces the object with the question word. Also we ask "why?" like "por quê?" that literally means "for what", as Mandarin Chinese does. Great video, Grace, 你很了不起老师! Edit: we also say "早餐" for breakfast, I mean, instead of "餐" (meal), we use "café" that means coffee, so it's like 早咖啡 ^^

Actually, the coolest part of teaching English in Taiwan is when I explain in English and then in Chinese and the students STILL don't understand and then I have to write on the board in English and Chinese at which point I will think (and perhaps even say) "Guys, if I can speak and write in Chinese then you should be able to speak and write in English."
