This year, NASA is celebrating the Hubble Space Telescope's 30 years of unlocking the beauty and mystery of space.
Hubble is revolutionizing modern astronomy for scientists, while taking the public on a wondrous journey of exploration and discovery. Hubble's never-ending, breathtaking celestial snapshots provide a visual shorthand for Hubble's top scientific achievements. Unlike any space telescope before it, Hubble made astronomy relevant, engaging and accessible for people of all ages. The space telescope's iconic imagery has redefined our view of the universe and our place in time and space.

As a farmer, my problem with space expanding is that the annual cost for whatever land I lease from my neighbor is calculated according to area (i.e. acres). So my question is whether my increased rental costs resulting from this continuous expansion are likely to keep pace with or exceed the expected rate of economic inflation?
@shadowgod1009
@shadowgod1009 4 жыл бұрын
The expansion rate of the universe should not affect your rental costs, unless you are you farming in space lol. The earth is not expanding, that would require more mass to be added and that's not happening. What is expanding is the space in between galaxies/stars. Essentially everything in space is moving further away from each other.

Because the space is so so big and there is so much space betwen every star and every galaxy that our brains are not capable to understand that
@shadowgod1009
@shadowgod1009 4 жыл бұрын
There could be a few explanations. One is that galaxies are way, way bigger than stars and planets. They could be so small that they are essentially invisible. Like how if you were to look at a skyscraper from afar and a bird flew in between you and the building. That bird wouldn't block your view, but it might stop some of the light from reaching. Not nearly enough to cover the whole building though. Another explanation could simply be there is nothing in way for that particular galaxy. Not all of them will have stuff in front of them. There is surely stuff that gets in the way, we know because we use that to our advantage when looking for exoplanets. When they pass in front of their star relative to us, what is called a transit, we can see the star's light dim, indicating an object passing by. Like my first point, it isn't enough to block our view. But it is noticeable. (Btw, space is not infinite. Not sure if you were saying that figuratively, but thought I would put this out there anyway. There is a finite number of galaxies and stars. Though it sure does feel infinite, given the vastness of space and how short/small our lives are.)
