there could be gadzilion layers, people in queue are still connecting to one realm, after they connect to their realm, they could be separated to layers. so queue timers have nothing to do with the number how many players has classic lost. if the queue numbers are similar to the launch numbers, then the player base is also similar

Can someone explain to asmongold that the sever queue was for all layers they didn't lose players there just in the one instance

we still have huge 2 hour queues on weekends and raid reset nights on Golemagg EU. game doesnt seem to be dying.. honestly the only thing stopping there being queues every day of the week is that phase 3 isnt our yet.. no BWL or battlegrounds.

LAYERING NEVER AFFECTED QUEUE TIMES IN THE FIRST PLACE. The maximum allowed players in a realm has always been the same. Layering was used because all of those people would at the start be in the same very few zones trying to do quests. It was to smooth out the process. However the average realm size is MUCH higher than it was in vanilla, but it has nothing to do with layering. If you're seeing similar sized queues right now like there was at the start, that means that the amount of people playing is the same.

Pre phase 2, my server was empty... my layer anyways. Now as a 54 alliance warrior in the middle of phase 2 before battlegrounds... my exp rate has decreased 90%.

We have a ton more servers now than we did during the first two-three weeks after launch. Naturally people have transferred, or re-rolled on another servers since (I'm one of those myself). Then we have people being a bit more spread out over the hours of the day, as well as during the week. People rolling a new char on a fresh server due to perhaps wanting to experience the other faction. Absolutely that some have quit Classic since the launch, no doubt about that, but there's just no way it has lost half its population. Looking at the realm statuses at prime time proves that very quickly, seeing how there's a ton of realms listed at high to full still.

good to see asmongold understands how layering works and how his primary school maths = 50% of the player base has quit. all layering did was remove players of level x from the view of players of level y - now that layering is gone - you see everyone in your zone as you should. Just like the old days in TBC. Level 60's camping certain spots honor farming people just going about levelling. Honestly I have not seen this many people since Wrath, and I don't mean by clicking o, clicking on who and refreshing. I'm talking about bumping into people doing quests, riding unning past or flying overhead. The world of Azeroth is alive with taurens, orcs, trolls, humans, dwarves, night elves and oh, soooooo many undead!!!

you have to count that they increased server capacity atleast 2 times.

7:30 massive error here ;) The queue depends on # of players online on a server. Layering divides the world into (at least 2) "words" - with lets say an even split. But that does not double the server capacity. So a server with no layering (example: 10k players) or a server with 2 layers (5k on each layer) both still have 10k players online and that is what defines the queue.

Imagine how great it will be to only be able to use the flying mount when WM is off and while it is ON, it will be more engaging to players, like classic wow.

Couldn't play classic for a few months for personal reasons. Literally the day after I start playing layering is removed lol. That was a "fun" day. I just decided to hop to a less populated realm.

Typical asmongold trying to use elementary school level math to determine how many people have quit classic. The player numbers can still be similar just at launch they were all trying to play at once.

WoW isn't supposed to have 1000 lvl 60s running around a few zones. When the servers die down the game will become much more fun for a lot of people. Right now it is like a pvp zombie apocalypse. It doesn't feel like a world right now, it is basically the size of a cod map with how the ratio of area:players are.

The layering is not gone btw, it's just disabled, but likely they won't need to use it again. The fact they removed layering is also an indicator that the population is trending downwards, which is to be expected tbh.

Classic WoW brought a lot of people back to the fold! It brought me back thats for sure.

Removal of layers does not equate to player loss. At the start, everyone is trying to log on at the same time, but over the months, people play on different days, at different times, with more or less frequency, and thus the login queue settles out and can keep up with demand. When you remove the layers, yes the queue gets busier again, but that doesn't mean its always the same players in queue. What you need to look at is the unique number of logins per month. So have player amounts gone down? Yeah, invariably. Has the player base been divided by the number of layers? No lol that's fucking stupid.

You cant compare ques from launch and ques from now without layering. I mean maybe 50% quit, but you cant say it at all just from that information.

I tried Classic and it has its charme but it is insanely outdated. My rotation of my Frostmage (because Fire and Arcane are not existant in the game) is literally one button, Frostbolt.

Think about a classic game you know and love. For me? Baldur's Gate 2. Absolutely love it, I play it once every year or so. Now imagine the game had continued changing over the years. It wouldn't be what it was. I wouldn't have the game I remember to play on. This is what WoW was but it changed so much from what I liked that it was no longer something I liked. I think many, myself included just wanted a clean slate in the game we love. If they continued WoW classic in to BC, then wrath and even onto the others. I'd stay until the end of Wrath, again no doubt.

Almost my entire guild just log in to raid once a week. Thats why ques are the same cuz a lot of people aren’t on as much.

The uptime is soooooo much better than it was at launch. They would update the update and then servers would be down for so long it was truly a part of the magic bullshit

Blizz removed layering too early, they should've done it when phase 2.5 drops in December. They were getting pressured by the players to remove it so i don't exactly blame them for it because it just continues to prove they are listening to us. In this instance we were wrong to ask them to do it so early...

You’re not right. In the beginning they didn’t allow as many people on the servers as they do now. They increased the caps. Plus a lot of people took the server transfers. Yeah a lot quit but not 90%.

You have layers within the same server, so the queue is the same because its the same number of people logging into that specific server. With layers, there were then "layers" within that realm, it didnt create additional temp servers to log into....Which actually shows that the population hasnt really dropped at all - Testiment to this, when i started playing classic, i brought 8 friends with me from RL, only 1 of whom had ever played retail, and all of them are still playing.

No, because server queue have nothing to do with layering. If server queues are the same as what they were at launch, that means the population is the same as launch.

I was saying before launch that Classic had a chance to be a gaming culture phenomenon. If blizzard had advertised and had enough servers on launch it could’ve been 10 million.

Your “math” makes zero sense. the layering didn’t stop server queue times. The server had the same total population limits. Layering just moved played to another instance on the same server to try and split entities and lag. For instance. Say Server1: has a population limit of 100. They split is in to multiple instances under the same host, so you have 5 layers of 20 people that all report back to the same server1.

Anyone who thought that layer was gonna stick through phase 2 is an idiot. Blizzard would NEVER have multiple world boss kills for 1 guild. World bosses are unique, and just for that layering had no way of surviving phase 2. Also, definetly some people quit the game, as it happens after every launch in every game ever launched. But its nowhere near 80% lol Many people just spreaded out in servers cus the que was so frustrating to deal with. And it was the right choice.

Classic, the place where they really don't give you a Deathwing mount for loli's easy raid. I challenge Asmongold to get all the mounts in Classic WoW. :D but it is in his on own right to discard this challenge, retail.

Its a very social game... Player's miss that and new generationes now see how you got friends for life in a game .. You dont get that in the current wow.

LOL i think you only see what you want to see. people play classic because its hyped right now and because most people play it now and not a lot of people play BFA, so they have to play classic in order to play WoW. i still think people will get bored of classic. in the end, the fanboys/fangirls will still play classic. i still hope Blizz will make TBC, at least in TBC Blizz will have fixed all what is wrong with Classic.

Most people would rather be right and fail than be wrong and succeed. Blizzard employees are no different. I believe they deliberately sabotaged classic by allowing honor before BGs because they HATE that their players insist on classic with no changes and they want us to BEG for change to prove that they were right all along and we were wrong all along. Lets not forget is took us years of begging to get them to give us Classic. Why the delay? Because Blizzard was unwilling to admit that their changes were NOT improvements. They HATE Classic's success. It only proves that their changes suck. It only proves that they've been wrong with the direction they chose for years. It only proves that their "contributions" have not actually been improvements. If they can just get us to beg for changes, then that'll prove that they were right all along and that we stupid gamers don't know what we want, words that have come out of their mouths multiple times when justifying why they wouldn't give us classic. I guarantee they feel stupid over classic's success. They are too proud to be happy about being wrong, no matter how much money they make.

Classic was brilliant! It was tuff and made you actually try. As retail continues it has gotten easier and easier over the years. Questing alone is massively different.

Wow classic was never success and never will be.

Fook Classic on top. Classic is a disappointment for me and it is because of Blizzard : 1. First they fooked up the servers flooding it with more than 4 k players. 2. Then they released the game with layers fooking up the AH and materials Wold Wide. 3. Then they removed the layers flooding a World what was designed for 4-5 players with over 10 k players / servers and now the pvp is not working as intended but it is a blood bath. In certain areas you can not quest, you can not land without being camped over and over, you can not reach to certain instances without dying at least 7-8 times, you can not farm , so on so on and all this because two reasons A. Over population B. People being ducks^ (dont tell me you are not a duck* being lvl 60 and killing a lvl 29 just because you've seen that person having Ony buff)(seen it on a stream and it did disgust me). "Fellow" players you are forgetting this is a game and on the other side is another human being. I get it killing someone 2-3 times but doing it over and over again just to deny that person to get into BRD... disgusting.
