@@Connen1 That echo buff you get in dungeons/raids is simply FF14 version of adaptable difficulty it's also not the canonical echo you see in the story because once you gain the echo, you always have it.

The thing is, the difference isn't really explained in full until Shadowbringers and Asmon isn't there yet

@@Connen1 I know this is over two years old but, oh well. In dungeons or trials we never actually fail. If we "lose" its considered us seeing a failed attempt vie the echo. Hence why we get an echo "Buff" that gets stronger the more times we fail at a piece of content.

Yeah I feel like some stuff got jumbled up later on. SPOILER PROTECTION (do not continue if you have not done Endwalker) The Echo is basically showing memories of the calamity that befell the Acians. In which they were sundered by Hydalen. Somehow this vision reawakens some of the creative/progenitor powers of the Acians of those who see it, and gives them varying degrees of special abilities (seeing the past in our case). Later in the story however, it seems there was a distinction made between the tempering protection in which it was Hydalen specifically either "tempering" us, or casting a "protective spell to protect our aether from being manipulated" - her past self's own words. Meaning that the Echo does not necessarily provide protection from tempering, but rather only part of the "Blessing of Light". Though I swear there were some contradictions in the story earlier (ARR-STB), I cant remember the specific characters. Maybe my memory is just bad.

@@-obviatethetruth-474 SPOILERS BELOW From what I have gathered, both the Echo and the Blessing of Light protect from tempering. The difference being that the Blessing will ALWAYS protect against tempering (due to how tempering works). The Echo on the other hand only gives the POSSIBILITY to protect against Tempering by piting the Echo-User and whichever Primal is trying to temper them in a "Fight of minds" if you will, where they have to resist the Primal with their own strength of will. The main reason why there's so much confusion is because the characters in-game only have theories regarding how each of those work, which they slowly discover are not 100% right. As a personal addendum: I hold the theory that all Echo users are given the Blessing of Light when they first meet Hydaelyn and that's where the initial in-lore confusion regarding the two started. Kinda how like Dalamud was first believed to be a moon and then it was discovered it was a satellite/prison

The Echo also does different things for different people. An example would be our Echo showing us the events of the past we were not present to see in great detail, and another example is an Au'Ra girl in the Bozja questline who can glimpse into the future.

Not really retconned. Nobody truly knows what the Echo and Blessing of Light are before Shadowbringers. People (and characters) use them interchangeably mainly because they're not common knowledge. They only get defined later because someone who has that knowledge explains them to us.

He's playing games for a living. He'll keep leaving FF each time it grows a bit stale for the viewership and then coming back to it once it gets fresh again. He likes the game and it makes good content. He just also likes other games that make good content.

Can't fully blame them though. That would be ignoring the WoW Andy's who were pretending to be toxic XIV fans in order to get him to stop playing it.

Minus the fanfare and red carpet, yeah. The community, on the whole, is stupidly welcoming and friendly. The music and the story are pretty great, even if the beginning is a bit of a slog. There's so many things to keep you busy and engaged, crafting and gathering, gold saucer minigames, end game content, mount collecting, even stuff that revitalizes old content. Not to mention the deep dungeons, treasure maps, and PvP which recently got a facelift.

And what's more is, everything you saw in the recap video is included in the free trial of the game. It's like the most content rich free trial of any game I've seen so far, you can play 2/5ths of all the expansion for free as long as you want.
