The best part about this is Asmon is a prime example of being smart about streaming. His appearance looks like joe public, he lives in a regular sized house, the guy is loaded but still comes off as relatable. Well done sir.

FWIW I think your conclusion at the end is right considering someone could ironically take that quote and sell it as a poster. I just realized why i enjoy watching Asmon rants. I dont play wow, or any mmo for like 10-12 years now, but ended up here in this channel anyway. Asmon is a fking smart guy with very reasonable stand point vs most issues, plus he has really good awareness of himself and things around him. I'd listen to the argument from a respectable guy like this on anything, agree or disagree.

A girl i know was talking about some friends of her boyfriend and how they are basically rich with HotMart... Yeah, that's right. It's not a joke. How do I know? Because they are as dumb as a door, they went from posting shit on instagram on a fucked up house to posting shit on a mansion, to posting prints of their bank accounts, to showing off their newly bought luxury cars. She showed me a receipt from Ifood where they spent like half a thousand in food for 4 people and this isn't a one time thing, is recurrent, it's daily. I kind of understand them, they were poor before this happened and are kinda having every thing they ever wanted but couldn't afford but truth is that it won't last forever. This shit is gonna crash soon or later and they are legit under impression that it'll never end. They are 3 guys, under 18 yo living on a mansion on one the most expensive neighborhoods in my city, spending a thousand dollars a day on food that they basically throw in the trash later, this shit is not gonna last forever.

My buddy was in LA for business and he met a lot of people in their younger 20s with HUGE trust funds or fat inheritances from family members and lost ALL OF IT! So many of them uprooted their entire lives moved, to LA and tried to start an ‘influencer house’ in hopes of getting a taste of that fame. He met one guy that lost everything and his parents pretty much disowned him cause he wasted all his money on stupid bullshit that never went viral, didn’t accept a full ride scholarship because he wanted to pursue the influencer life. He lost his house and all of his “friends” moved on to better things after using him to get there. He’s hanging on by a thread by working two waiter jobs and just hoping his parents call him back one day with access to the gold car again. Just so he attempt another run at this bullshit again. I get you can be successful without college but if you got a full ride scholarship to an Ivy League school but you choose to pursue this bullshit. Like what 😳 he could of went to school and probably would of gotten viral from just making university life videos on KZfaq to. He fucked up everything. My friend telling me this story and he said I couldn’t imagine being the person in a huge family line of wealthy individuals going back YEARS. But it stops at him cause he fucked up wasted it all trying to be a YouTub influencer.

I think you aren't realizing that there's a difference between being dumb in a rosy bubble economy vs being dumb in a recession. People become much more wary and much harder to dupe with giving up what little they have during times of actual poverty and dire cultural outlook. You don't seem to believe that the broader market is influenced and changed by ongoing conditions, time will tell whether people grow callous towards any form of advertisement and influence due to the over saturation created by this bubble.

I worked at Subway during the Jared scandal, and I just have to say that it did hurt business really bad for a few weeks and sales didn't go back to normal for well over a month. I mean it was in the news every day for weeks and continued to pop back up over the course of the trial. Of course business did go back to normal, but the company wasn't going to lose even more money paying employees to stand around doing nothing, so employees got their hours cut significantly. Meaning they possibly couldn't pay their rent that month or afford their baby formula. These are the all too real risks and effects of businesses backing influencers. From the outside in, it may appear that the business is fine. However there are real people, that are not extremely rich, that have real problems that can be exacerbated by a spokesperson doing something stupid.

Influencer Marketing is so strong because there is nothing more effective at what it does which is speaking to 15-40 year old potential customers. As long as there is nothing more effective it will be the primarily used method. Also what is very interesting to note ist that the people who grow up will still be using online plattforms because its what they grew up with. Of course interests change but the vast amount of different influencers means you will always find someone/something that interests you. This can be seen with TV and its usage of older people (50+) aswell. So it really doesnt matter what problems this guy seems to find for the current marketing method because there is still nothing better out there.
@brendanmystery

that was what I was thinking as well. That currently the number of people who watch TV has continued to decrease as time goes on, whereas the number of people that use youtube or a streaming service for their entertainment has continued to increase. Since streaming services don't normally have ads (except Netflix soon I guess), KZfaq, which is an online platform that has a large user base and continues to grow said user base, seems to be the most reliable and safe way to market to demographics. So not only is it still cheaper than traditional media, but it also targets demographics more easily.

I think you probably grew up without all those intrusive adds. Having too much of something can lead to a kind of paralysis and being undecisive. A good example is my game library. When I was young, I played what I got for months, because I just had that one game and had to wait for another birthday for more. Now I got a library of over a thousand games, but most of the time I just look at it, can't decide and go waste the evening on youtube. Kids nowadays grow up in that flood of adds everywhere and ways to consume fun everywhere to the point it's overbearing for really cheap prices. What do people do in situations like that? Look what the others do. And considering that many people start to regard influencers as friends when it comes to trust, it's pretty clear what would happen next. Of course there are many people who view those things critically, but for everyone like you, there are at least 10 people who just take everything their idol/influencer says as the truth and will totally buy their stuff.

Asmon hits the nail on the head. While ads in general that interrupt viewing is disliked, unless the video has been tailed to literally fit around them such as TV ads, if they are well done and creative they are liked. If you go to Game Theory now, whole videos are just sponsored and you wouldn't know it till the very end. MatPat picks up a sponsorship from a consulting client, he then writes a script about one of their games. He does the normal schtick with the video (actually I don't think he does any script writing anymore) - he publishes it, he gets ad revenue, sponsorship revenue, and consulting fees all in one package and meanwhile everyone watched a 30 minute ad. The guys that can't sell are the one's caught selling. True salesmanship is smooth communication, there is no abrupt disconnect, but if done well sales occurs, usually at the 1% to 2% conversion. rate. (2% is considered high by the way.

Social media influencers are just the next evolution of talk show hosts. People flock to a personality. What makes this a bubble is how fast it has grown. No matter how big a company is they can't throw endless supplies of money at influencers without a profit happening from it. IMO a popped bubble just means fewer influencers that are making less money. Sure the investors like to see growth and signs of the company keeping with the latest trends. But at some point it needs to provide some kind of profit or they lose confidence.

IMO, the real reason brands make such a big deal out of withdrawing sponsorship after controversy is that withdrawing sponsorship on moral grounds is a great marketing opportunity. They get to act all high and mighty, improve overall opinion of the brand, and then they'll probably just sponsor them again after everything calms down.

You often will not even realize what you are reading is an app. Articles disguised as news stories are are great ads. Sponsored content is rampent in magazines, network news on tv, product placement in tv shows...adds are everywhere. Its exhausting. Whenever it becomes too much and i need a break i like to unwind with an ice cold Dr. Pepper.

Ads can't keep up with trends for long. They started on my space as it died, the moved into facebook and now it's dead, they're in the middle of finding out that the only people who use twitter are people who are yelling nonsense at each other and their bot followers. Every time an ad system kicks in the site it's on dies and a new one pops up. KZfaq and twitch are about the only sustainable platforms for ads and that may only last so long before some alternative pops up.

Pretty sure putting in the extra work to not watch ads will be more and more worthwhile as they develop techniques to personally target and manipulate the individual psychology.

I'm surprised that people really don't seem to understand this. People's lives are heavily impacted by ads, I forgot the name of this one study we had to read in an English class I took a few years ago but it said that it's like 60-70% of our decisions are made because of advertising- either good or bad. So even if you aren't buying something based upon what you've seen or heard about a product, other products being perceived as bad, never having seen something before, or a variety of other reasons influence what we buy, watch, and do with our lives.

I think another buisness that may all apart are fad-style businesses (GFuel for example) which once the base has to be tighter with their pocketbooks because they're forced into it, will cut what isn't even really a luxury good but just... a fad product propped up on massive advertising.

People’s view of market is very short term. They think 2008 was bad. They think looking at market over past 10 years is enough. But market is very long term, we are talking about 25-30 years trend. It happens we are heading towards a major down turn and fed rate hike is likely to stay another 6-12 month. We will see a squeeze on everyone.

"People aren't trusting influencers anymore" isn't the same as "people are getting smarter." I also appreciate you then talking and talking and addressing not quite the statement made, getting further and further away from it. Almost like someone didn't want people to dwell on the statement "don't trust influencers." Another good one is "young people are dumb because the vast, vast minority of people fall for it.'

7:08 That confuses me. Is this the sponsored content we see in videos? I thought those weren't a flat rate. Isn't it for every person that uses the 10% promo code, the KZfaqr/influencer would get a % of the sale?

It really isn't a bubble, it's a change of format or media. I'd equate it to radio's transition into television. Those that could not make that transition disappeared, that is why mainstream media outlets are panicked. How does a conglomerate compete with an influencer, way less overhead. This guy spoke of trust but watch news outlets today where is the trust there, corporate narative and guidelines equal trust? People are gullible but also more aware that everything you watch is marketing. What's the difference between a celebrity and an influencer? I think a influencer is more accessible, followers are able to directly interact in one way or another.
