Yeah, right? It's crazy that, as a species, we've been around for 6 million years, and we only started taking mental health seriously about 40 years ago. Before that, people would either carve a hole in your head to release "negative spirits" or give you a lobotomy.

Wow, first electro-shock and now a lobotomy! I'm really getting the star treatment here at George Washington University Hospital. This place sure is swell. Hey, look over there! I think I see Rosemary Kennedy! And the chlorpromazine makes me feel like butter melting on toast. I'm so glad my husband recommended this place.

watching these videos, really makes me realise just how insane the US research and medical fields became after WW2, going as far as luring their own citizens to these extremely dangerous, borderline torturous procedures just so they could experiment with the results. what baffles me even more is the population of the day not even batting an eye at what was going on, not questioning any of these methods.

Fun fact, the first psychiatric pharmaceutical, thorazine, was developed as a chemical alternative to lobotomy. It is still used to this day.

Medical staff observed that patients taking Chlorpromazine before surgery became calmer without being rendered unconscious, and this led to research into the potential psychiatric benefits of the drug. Now it is used to treat bipolar and schizophrenia. The Thorazine brand name has been discontinued in the U.S. If generic versions of this product have been approved by the FDA, there may be generic equivalents available.

The crazy part is most lobotomies weren’t actually “successful” in the sense that the brain didn’t even sever in the right spot/they didn’t do what they were meant to, yet doctors still decided to keep doing them

I came across Angelica by chance and she is being far one of the best content creators I have ever seen. She is by far my favorite. Her creativity is awesome and her humor/comedic talent is on another level.😂 She knows how to blend it in perfectly. I love all her videos and have not found 1 that was less than entertaining. lobotomies would be more normally done in the 1940s than the 1960s by around then many places began to illegalise it & have people arrested for doing the procedure as it was called into question in the late 40s early 50s. its really fascinating, actually! but, dont mind me yapping, lobotomise me!!!!!

Lobotomy was actually an insane mental surgery for patients who dealt with trauma.But in the meantime,John F. Kennedy's little sister Rosemary did go into an Lobotomy procedure.Sadly,she was mentally stable even though she didn't need it.After the procces,her brain was stuck as a toddler's one,and she ended up being more mentally unstable than she was. NOTE : Her mother was against it,but when she wasn't around Rosemary's father's presence,he did it anyway.She always blamed him after that incident.
