What an incredibly relaxing video! If you are still taking requests, a really interesting southern state you could do is Virginia. It was the first British colony in what is now the US and has a rich history plus a lot of ethnic and geographic diversity.

California is interesting but weirdly hard to spot on a map! In a lot of ways the landmarks are the businesses themselves in the entertainment (music included) and tech industries. (Disney, Warner Brothers, Nickelodeon, Universal. Google, Apple, Facebook, etc.) But not as well known is that California’s economy is a major player in Aviation, Agriculture, Wine (Napa Valley) and the country’s overall military. Geographically, its beaches, mountain ranges (Sierra Nevada) and National Parks (Yosemite, Sequoia, Redwood, and Death Valley) are high up on the list too.

Been greatly enjoying your videos! Surprised nobody has chimed in here... California's etymology is probably ultimately derived from "caliph," but indirectly through the stories of Garci de Mondalvo. The Spanish explorers thought the land resembled a mythical island from one of his stories, called Kalifia. Kalifia probably comes from caliph, as in a caliphate, but may have other origins too. There are many other less accepted origin stories about the state's name. ALSO... Why do we say soccer? It was actually the British who said soccer up til the 1930s, it was considered "continental" and trendy to do so, and is some kind of corruption of an Italian word for the game. During this time American newspapers began publishing a lot about the sport using the word soccer, and in carrying forward a centuries-old tradition, the people of the UK stopped saying the word the moment Americans began saying it. This is sort of my own take on the reasons why British folks dropped the term, but traditionally America was the last to get the memo culturally speaking; it was a place where trends went to die. Obviously that would change a bit as the 20th century progressed.

As a native Californian this was so fun to watch. I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, I went to University in Santa Barbara (where I got my degree in Spanish), and now I live in Northern Baja California, Mexico :) I love how you say all the names of places like a Spaniard 😊 Your channels are fab 🙌🏼✌🏼

I think the ‘the USA is a new country’ thing is such a tired cliche. The USA is made up of many former colonies and countries. For example California was settled by Spanish in the 1700s who did a genocide on the indigenous people, then it became a part of Mexico before being part of the USA. Cool your nan lives in a 200 year old house but that’s not really comparable. Navajo people have their own nation, they have been here more than 300 years. I just think it’s cooler to learn history rather than dismiss it
