My 4 year old son and I watch this video frequently before bed to help him calm down. It's seriously his favorite video. I bought him this book for Christmas on Amazon and was overjoyed to see that it is an older, used copy that looks just like yours. Anyhow, we were reading it tonight and he says to me, "Read it softly like she does." He was fast asleep in 5 minutes. ❤

Adult humans need more whimsy and make believe in their lives. Somehow we lose the ability to just blow off tension and stress, which increases our susceptibility to illness. Having a physician as an author of this book means it is just what the doctor ordered. I am the daughter of a Navy officer. My books are my "home". My Haven from the world. I have had to move a lot, and leaving my books behind is crushing. That Gnomes book is your home.

You know what they should have called this book? "Gnomenclature"

Oh my gosh this was MY favorite book as a child, I was obsessed with it. I had some garden gnomes and gnome toys as a result. 😂 I thought I was a strange child. The interior of the house, all warm and wooden really is nostalgic for me, I must have spent a lot of time on that page. 😍

I've always had this book around since my childhood. I still have a copy as an adult for a coffee table book. So great!

Your video is three years old now, but I have to say, I still to this day love the Gnomes book. My dad must have bought it when I was a baby. He still has it to this day. I have to make sure I get it before my brother does... ;) PS - of course I have gnomes hidden around my outside gardens because of the influence of the book on me.

I inherited this same book from my great grandmother back in the early-mid 80's and I still have it on my bookshelf 30 years later. I still leaf through it every so often.

This is one of my favorite books! I've loved it since I was a child. My mother bought a copy of the book in the late 70s, and I always read it growing up. I also have another book they did, "The Book of the Sandman and the Alphabet of Sleep". They are such wonderful books with so much creativity and detail put into them.

I love that book! I grew up with that book too! My dad gave it to me when I was quite young too so I had the same experience of loving the pictures and then as I got older loving the words.

Thanks madam repose. Wot a fabulous book. Inspired me to populate my gardens with gnomes (here and there). Had a similar book as a child that exemplified the notion of a night time party for fairy folk but long gone.

We had this book and its sequel at home, too. I love these books so much, however, I prefer the sequel. My grandma used to read it to me when she came to visit us and when I was too young to read it myself, I would just flip through the pages and look at the illustrations. They are so beautiful and fascinating.

Excellent video! I am a librarian, so this has become one of my favorite asmr videos! I have fond memories of gnomes from my childhood. i.e. The Gnome Mobile movie from Disney, and the gnome cartoon popular on Nickelodeon in the late 80s, early 90s. Please do another video like this! :)

Oooh love it! I'm Dutch and Rien Poortvliet is a famous Dutch artist. I love his drawings. There so magical. My big sister had this book. And when I was little I had sleepovers at her home. She read to me from this book before I went to sleep. There is also a cartoon series from this book named David de boskabouter. (David the woods gnoom) So lovely. I grew up with this. Oh the sweet memory's. I had all sorts of gnome toys from this book en TV series. So thank you for this video ❤️

Hello Linda, I live in The Netherlands and I am sorry to tell you that the gnomes over here are not well at all! In fact they are in poor health due to the environmental disaster this country is in. A lot of NOx and CO2 damaged most of the gnome population and others were forced by farmers to leave the country. Because Rien Poortvliet already died in 1995 the gnomes don't have a spokesman anymore but I know where they live and made contact with them so you can make a donation in my account and I will help them with gasmasks and other stuff. I know you love them too and that's why I hope to hear from you, Dear greetings, Harry
