ASMR Celtic Name, Roman Camp, Medieval Walls: History of Vienna (soft spoken, map tracing)

Let's start off in the same place as last time: with the Celts in Central Europe! One of their small settlements along a "Vedunia", a forest river, would later turn into a Roman camp, "Vindobona", and eventually a thriving medieval city, "Wenia"... I hope you'll enjoy this little tour through my hometown's history. There are so many things I didn't know about, so this was really fun and interesting to make. 🤓
As always, this video is soft spoken with a slight Austrian accent and features map tracing and book sounds to help you relax and fall asleep.
The books are by Ferdinand Opll (Wien im Bild historischer Karten) and Ian Barnes (Historic Atlas of the Celtic World).

Austria is one of my fave countries I have ever been to. You’re voice in the best way puts me to sleep in minutes, but I keep coming back for the interesting content. I also love your videos about voyages on the sea

Your xoice is a treasure, you use it like a virtuoso playing an Amatti violin. Very soothing, yet also exciting and of course the subject information is much too interesting to sleep through. So good to have the historical development of Wien presented by a Viennese passionate about the city. Very intimate understanding. I guess those old city walls with all those towers eventually got pulled down or somehow I never managed to see them. Wonderful book on Wien with all its historical maps. It is amazing the flow of the Danube of today seems to remain in its current position given the wide meandering flow of its historical geomorphology.

Thank you!! That's correct, the city walls got demolished in the 19th century to make way for the Ring street - but that's going to be a different video some day. And as for the Danube, there's extensive regulation these days, of course, since the flooding would be a disaster. It would make for an interesting story too! The Danube Island was created during the last great regulation effort in the 70s which so far has held up very well.
