@@Squirrel-eg4ws People want jobs that pay a living wage. Employers love the “free market” until it begins to go in workers’ favor. Then we’re “lazy” for wanting to be treated with respect and to not have to work three jobs to pay rent.

I really appreciate this historical ASMR roleplay being about the darker, less pleasant realities of life back in the day. (Let's face it, most people watching this would probably have been dirt poor 😂) I like the "doing my lady's makeup" roleplays of course, but I really adore this one.

One of my favorite passages from Oliver Twist is about the committee running Oliver's workhouse. It's a backhanded, sarcastic description of how the masters were great men of philosophy, and had figured out how to keep a child satisfied with a fraction of a normal ration of bread.

It's never too late to update yr skills at the workhouse. They have blacksmithing, welding, log rolling, chimney sweeping, mining, rat catching, brick batting, you name it. The Workhouse -- looks great on any resume!

I've been really caught up watching Simon Whistler's Top Tenz and Today I Found Out, and BBC's Weird History... much of it focused on British History Tudor through Victorian.... This was just recommended to me by the algorithm and IT'S PERFECT. I can't wait to watch them all! Very well done!!!! Amazing level of work you put into this!

This is by far my favorite video. And I love this concept. Your awesome! May I leave video idea. I was thinking maybe a chat with a fellow workhouse inmate. Like your talking at night when your supposed to be sleeping. Maybe make an escape plan or just general talk about the daily tasks and issues in the work house. I think this could be a great series. Looking forward to see what you do with it

I think a few people in the comments are misunderstanding what the workhouses are. It's not a job per se, it was the Victorian equivalent to *cough* welfare *cough*. If you were destitute, you basically had three options: you could basically sign your life away to working at one of these places where the "payment" you got was basically bread and board, enough to keep you alive until you were "reformed". You could try and live on the street (in which case you'd probably eventually be arrested, and deported or executed), or you could go the prison. This was like the least bad hope for people who had nothing. However in truth, the workhouses were pretty useless, and mainly just served to keep their 'inmates' out of the eyes of higher society.
