(part 1) Hi Rebecca, I am grateful that you are in a state of recovery for healing from your addiction. I used to be bulimic and was in the recovery of transitioning out of that eating disorder. While it is not exactly the same as your experience, I can relate to the premise of having to get out of the mindset of not leaning on that habit as a crutch. The Lord Jesus takes notice of your determination to not go back to your old ways. Maybe there are people in your life that has not taken notice of that and congratulated you on it, but I will. It is not easy to break away from old habits that enticed us to a point where we were all in, but I can genuinely say that we cannot and do not have to do it on our own in our own strength. God can and will help you through the pain and struggle, but you have to give Him permission to do so. God is a Gentleman, meaning, He will not force Himself where He is not wanted. In addition, that will not stop God from getting our attention. Jesus loves you beautiful. The Holy Spirit, who is the Spirit of God, wants you to get to know God on a personal level for yourself with His help, but He won't force you. God will encourage us to get to know Him relationally, but He will not force us into it. We have to sincerely want a relationship with Jesus for ourselves. The Lord is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. Meaning, He will not leave nor forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6), regardless of what you have done in the past, present, and possibly future. God has seen it all. He is not surprised by our faults and mistakes. There are no excuses for our sins (wrongdoing), faults, and mistakes; and God wants us to be free from our sins and the only way to be free from living in error is recognizing and accepting the free gift of salvation, that we have in Jesus Christ. He is the Son of God who sacrificially gave His life for us on the cross for our sins (John 10:17-18) all because of how much our Heavenly Father (God) loves us (John 3:14-21). It is historically proven that Jesus Christ was indeed, physically on this earth; however, what people struggle with is the notion that He actually resurrected from the dead three days later. One of the ideas I like to think of when people question that is the fact that no one found Jesus's body. Some people think his disciples (students) Took his body and hid it. Some people thought Jesus had a twin brother. Some people think that Jesus's disciples lied about the entire resurrection; however, there were over 500 witnesses to Jesus's resurrected body (1 Corinthians 15:1-11). There are many testimonies of people who had an illness, passed away in the hospital, were pronounced, dead, and minutes later came back to life. That is an example of resurrecting essentially from the dead. If we can believe their testimony to be true, how come we question God's testimony about His Begotten Son Jesus resurrecting from the dead (1 John 5:9-12)? Here's something to think about: Think of the famous movie series, The Matrix. In the movie series, the character Morpheus explains that if a person takes the blue pill, they will be trapped in the deception of the world, and believe whatever comes across them, whether true or false. However, in the movie series, Morpheus states that if a person takes the red pill, they will be in the world, but not of the world. Meaning, Morpheus will lead them to start to realize the deception and lies they've been fed all their life and have the ability to break free from that deception. Morpheus is a picture in the movie of the Holy Spirit who is God (1 John 5:5-8). The Holy Spirit will lead us "into all the truth" (John 4:24), NOT deception. God WILL NOT lead us into a dark pit, where we can't see left from right, forward from backward. God WILL NOT lead us into an empty space of confusion, doubt, unfaithfulness, and distrust. Godly wisdom, discernment, knowledge, and understanding come from God himself. God wants us to love wisdom. If we want genuine wisdom, we can ask the Lord and He will not neglect to bless us with that attribute from Him (James 1:5-8). [---> MORE IN THE REPLY SECTION]

(part 2) With being said, lean into that desire of seeking the truth for yourself. According to Jesus, in the Bible (the Lord used people as a vessel to write His words down) He says that He is "the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE" and that no one can come "to the Father except through Me" (John 14:6). What this means is that if you have the desire to know the truth, and to let the truth, set you free, then you need to run to Jesus because he is the picture of Truth itself. I know it may not seem easy with all of the false information in the world about what Christianity is. If you've gotten this far in this comment, I will say this: There is a story in the Bible, where religious leaders brought a woman to Jesus for Him to judge her since was caught in the act of adultery (John 8:1-11). According to the law of Moses in the Bible of the Old Testament (old covenant), if someone was caught in the act of adultery, they were to be stoned to death. The reason why was that people kept giving into sexual immorality (anything sexual that does not align with God's original design for sex in marriage [Genesis 2, such as adultery, fornication (living and/or sleeping with someone you are not married to, masturbation, doing/watching pornography, being/sleeping with your family members' significant other, having an intimate relationship with the same sex (even if they are not having sex), etc.]). Those were things people were doing during that period and still do to this day, and worse. These religious leaders, such as the Pharisees and scribes, wanted to trap Jesus with His own words to see what he would do. Jesus's response was priceless. He said, "...' All right, but let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!'" (John 8:7, NLT). When Jesus said this, it enabled the religious leaders to realize that no one is without sin (wrongdoing). We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23) and because of that, we are all guilty before Him. However, by God's grace and mercy, when we truly accept the atoning sacrifice that Jesus Christ did for everyone (whether they would surrender to God or not), put our faith in Jesus, and do the will (plan) of God for our lives, we are exempt from that condemnation (Ephesians 2:1-10). We are not saved by our good deeds or righteous living. It doesn't matter how many charities you donate to and how many people do you help in life. If you do not have a genuine relationship with Jesus Christ and surrender to the word of God, all of those things are done in vain. With being said, when Jesus made that statement, he was basically saying, if any of you guys are perfect without any faults whatsoever, you can cast a stone at this woman. But if you have done mistakes in life, have faults and imperfections, then judge yourself instead of this woman. The religious leaders were so taken aback by what Jesus said that they all "one by one," from the oldest to the youngest, left. They were embarrassed. They were exposed to their hypocrisy and self-righteousness. When Jesus asked the woman, where are the people who are accusing her and if any of them condemned her. She answered no, and Jesus, instead of condemning the woman, said "Neither do I. Go and sin no more." He wanted her to know that she was forgiven by God for her sins, and she canal go about her life with faith in Jesus Christ and freedom in Christ from guilt, shame, and condemnation (Galatians 5:13-15). That is what Jesus wants for all of us. He wants all of us to live free from guilt, shame, and condemnation when we truly realize that we have all disobeyed God, and we have the ability to be forgiven of our sins by excepting God's free gift of salvation and eternal life with the Lord in heaven forever when we place our faith in Jesus Christ alone. Getting baptized "in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" (Matthew 28:19) is a physical and public declaration of dying to old selves and being reborn into our new selves in Jesus Christ. When you get dunked in the water, it's a symbol of bearing our old, toxic, disobedient, ungodly ways of life. When you arise from the water, it is a symbol of being reborn and transformed into a new person, a child of the God of the universe (2 Corinthians 5:16-21). Don't let the troubles, cares, stressors, and worries of life hard in your heart from getting to know God for yourself. The troubles, cares, stressors, and worries of life can make a person, cold and bitter if they do not release all of that into the hands of God, who wants to take our burdens from our shoulders. That does not mean we won't go through hardship in life. The Bible says "In fact, all who want to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted" (2 Timothy 3:12, CSB). Regardless of whether someone is a Christian or not, they are going to go through hardship; point, blank, period. The difference between the two is that someone who is a child of God has the ability to go through hard circumstances with the God of the universe, directing and guiding their steps. Someone who is not a child of God, meaning someone who has not excepted the free gift of salvation, rejected Jesus, and does not believe in Him and God's testimony about His Son (1 John 5:9-12), this person will have to go through the pressures of life on their own. It doesn't matter if they have people around them to help them. Human strength is futile. We have limitations. God, on the other hand, has no limit of strength, power, and majesty (Luke 1:37; Matthew 19:16-26). Lean on to God. Give your troubles and cares to Him (1 Peter 5:5-11; Philippians 4:4-9). Surrender to the Lord Jesus. Receive God's gift of his Holy Spirit, who will abide in you, you and him, and He will love, comfort, convict, correct, discipline, help, guide, and direct you and lead you "into all the truth" (John 4:24). I think it's safe to say that tomorrow is not guaranteed to no one. Regardless of your social, economic, and/or relational status, tomorrow is not promised. Don't let another day go by living in ignorant/arrogance. Don't let another day go by living in lies and deceit taught to us by society, maybe our teacher(s), parent(s), friend(s), loved one(s), stranger(s), etc. At the end of the day, humans wither away like grass (Psalm 103:15-16), but God has been, is, and will always be eternal (Psalm 90:2). So, if God promises to never leave us nor forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6), even though He has all the right to, He will not go back on His word but fulfill His promises (Isaiah 55:9-11). Seek Truth.
