It's horrible how modern society makes us feel like we're being unproductive when we need to take a day off to just recharge. The human brain was not made to be running 24/7/365. Back when I was still working every so often I used to take days off and I called them "mental health days". Sometimes you just have to. Your brain is telling you to.

I actually had one of those days yesterday, when I had plenty of time but just couldn't bring myself to do something. I try to remember this: You can't be productive all the time. If you watch the seasons change and the plants and animals, you'll see that there is a time of life, hibernation and reawakening. So it is just natural that we have times when we don't have much energy. Flowers don't bloom all the time so how could we? If I actually have to get something done on those days, I will break it down into very tiny tasks and reward myself after that. For example I do one taks and then read a page of the book I am craving or watch a short video. It is not ideal but it helps me to work when I absolutely don't feel like it. Also I really like this video style :) It really is like talking to a friend

Hendril, I loved this. I loved this kind of conversation feeling. Do I feel useless sometimes. Yes, I do feel this. When I do, I write. I just write how I’m feeling down on a note. Sometimes it’s a poem, sometimes it’s the start of a book, or sometimes it’s just random things that make no sense at all. I write when I’m feeling sad, when I’m feeling happy, when I’m feeling bored, when I’m feeling mad, or when I’m feeling relaxed from a video. If it’s a good enough video, I write a poem for it. As of right now, I have 77 notes on my phone because of all of my random writings. I’m planning on moving my poems to an actual notebook to save some space on my phone

It’s ok to take the day off though as well. You need to do what works for you best 😊 I am hoping you will continue your Hogwarts Legacy play through. It was very entertaining and relaxing to watch ☺️

Some days I have to power through, but some days I have to option to take a mental health day or I'm lucky and it's the weekend. But I'm learning that we need to change our perspective and use of words. Instead of saying/thinking, "I'm useless," I will accept it and say that it's a sign that I need to take a break (or that I will do nothing once I've finished work if I have to power through). It's part of being human and haas nothing to do with my worth. My breaks might consist of just coloring, reading, napping while listening to music or watching videos. Sometimes, I'll take a walk to clear my head or as I exercise, I'll listen to a podcast I enjoy or audiobooks. I love the background, Hendril! It gives off a cozy feeling because we're enclosed in a reading nook. Book tapping is one of my favorite ASMR triggers. It's always nice to listen to you voice your thoughts! It helps me and so many feel less alone 🥰

Okay, so... I felt guilty about not being productive enough probably until last year when I found out I have ADHD and I finally realized what was happening in my brain my whole life 😅. What Hendril is talking about is called rhythmic catalyst and it's a natural thing that probably everyone experiences every once in a while because our body and mind always needs to rebalance itself with rest. As for the neurodivergent people their brains work in a completely different way, so people on the spectrum have to figure out another route to arrive at the same finish as neurotypical people. Neurodivergents do experience lack of motivation more often and more randomly and as unfortunate as it sounds, it's easier to forgive yourself when you have a diagnosis 😊 I hope I could help someone ❤ And Hendril don't worry just keep on doing what you can and what you love the most in this moment!

❤ own youu beautiful human bean thank youu for sharing. Yes i sometimes suspect of me being slightly neurodivergent, but i feel like im maybe too good on self control or pretend im doing well. I usually hyperfocus on something when inspired, probably not ADHD i think? but i will often change between super inspired to completely do nothing mode during the week hahaha Also all brains work so differently and we are all so different as people, its hard to believe in a Neuro"normal" thing haha

I have learned that when this happens to me, the best thing to do is to accept the situation for what it is. The worst I can do is to force myself trying to be productive when it doesn’t come naturally and as a result I get even more stressed out. Usually I will be hyperfocused (I have Asperger) and productive the next day or the day after that. The one thing we can be sure about is that the inspiration will come back again soon and it’s not the end of the world if we sometimes miss a productive day, though at the time it feels like it is. ❤

@@ASMRWeekly 😂😂 I just had to get it off of my shoulder. I don't want to diagnose anyone, but it's really interesting to understand how we function individually 😊 I myself have ADHD and I'm also autistic, so a lot of times I'm in between the two like when I hyperfocus on something creative or don't have any motivation (my ADHD) and when I can do the same boring thing for days or weeks (my autism) I don't know why I just felt like sharing 😅 Thank you for being honest in your videos!

@@ASMRWeekly Recently my S/O of 13 years was diagnosed with ADD, which is the issue with focus and hyper focus, plus a lot more, but not hyperactivity. It only took him a bit over 50 years to seek out a proper diagnosis. Please if you think you might have ADHD go to a psychologist and get tested. This has changed his life, and mine, for the better in many ways. Not only is he learning better ways of managing his time but he is feeling better about himself in general. He was prescribed medication (and was also DNA tested to learn which meds would work best for him.) Our world and our brains are amazing. Thanks for sharing, as always.

Incredible timing. I just recently learnt this is very much is a thing. My solution is to burn out, get really physically and mentally weak and then take a 3 week break and realise that being "unproductive" is a necessary evil to being productive. LOL. Basically I got so unwell I had to take a few weeks off. I've never gone so long without editing since i started making videos 5 years ago. I never take even a weekend off. This is wild to me. But i needed it. I need to still work on balance. (worked 12 hours today for eg on my first day back to things, maybe 7 is enough?) ALSO that putting memories, family, friends first before being productive is important coz at the end of the day you aren't going to regret not working hard enough but you will regret missing Christmas two years in a row because you were editing a youtube videos. Speaking from experience. It's good advice really. The body tries to tell us. Society even works in holidays trying to force us to relax every once in a while. Hard when you work for yourself to set those guidelines if your too obsessive and hard core like myself. Thanks for making this video, it's nice (well, you know what i mean) to see i'm not alone in the struggle!

Fellow Ravenclaw here, in her mid 40s. Experience has taught me that re-centering one’s self is essential to productivity. When one is centered, focus becomes frictionless resulting in shorter task completion times. If efficiency is the goal, then re-centering one’s self does not make one useless but rather a highly productive member of society. Just an old lady’s unsolicited two cents. 😊
@laza8675
@laza8675 11 ай бұрын
What do you do to recenter
@HeyRemy
@HeyRemy 11 ай бұрын
I will start by saying there are many ways to re-center. There’s physical activity, music, meditation, reading, and the list goes ever on. However, what works for me is a technique taught to me about 20 years ago called focus and release. It’s a mixture of visualization and meditation. The nice lady who taught me began by asking me a simple question: where do you feel safe? She told me this place can be real or imagined. From there, she instructed me to clearly picture it in my mind. Her definition of clearly was to not just see the place, but hear it, smell it, and taste it too. Make it as real of an experience as possible. (This focuses the mind on one task, pushing out all other thoughts.) Once you have the mind focused, let your mind relax into it and let your body release whatever negative energy it’s been holding in. This release process takes different forms for each person. I had one friend tell me she imagined herself bursting into pieces of light and reforming herself to release the negative energy. (I found her process most fascinating!) Unfortunately, I am more pedestrian. I imagine the negativity as dark particles leaving my hands. Boring but effective, lol. Regardless, your mind will tell you when it’s done releasing by simply stopping. At that point, you can wind down your visualization and begin your return to the present moment. This is how I re-center. On good days, this process takes about 10-15 minutes. On rougher days, it can be 30-45 minutes. Your mileage will definitely vary. I sincerely hope this helps! 😊

This one really hit close to home. I always feel like I must do something even if I'm not obligated to do anything for a day or a couple of hours. I can't just "stop" and it can be really exhausting. So, if I procrastinate, which I do, I feel extra guilty because of it and become even more stressed. It's like a vicious cycle.

After listening to the video I have a few thoughts. First it is interesting how we can sometimes feel this pressure to be always better and more useful, we feel we are under some imaginary treshold. I think it comes from a need for validation, we are made to feel that only a few people have value and all of the majority of others must compete and always do more to have any value and always fight for validation. I was lucky because this year I did some inner child work. I remembered how when I was a child, my family who loved me took care of me and I was just happy to exist and felt I deserved to exist and explore the world, and have my needs met, whether I was useful or not. I was trying to go back to that feeling this year and I managed in a large part. Some simple pleasures helped, and asmr is one of them (for the inner child content, Ediya asmr) . I find it courageous to do Asmr because it is in a way a bit outside of this competition, of this idea that only what is the most elite has value and the rest is bad. Indeed like you said it yourself it feels weird that you cannot be bad at tapping on things, it s as if we are not allowed to accomplish things or take pleasure in things that are easy to do, that are outside of a competition for talent or difficulty. I have other things to say but I feel a bit sleepy now so will maybe continue writing at another time. It is great indeed to have a little conversation with you Hendril :) And please never doubt you are useful!! Your Harry potter ambiances and the Hobbit roleplays have added an immense value to my studies and my life and brought me much happiness. And many of your other videos bring me happiness too, and make me feel like the presence of a friend. And I am not alone thinking this. f I sometimes wish I had as much courage as you to create content even if I dont always feel confident in what I do. but for now I have the defect of being to perfectionist and afraid of some peoples judgement. I dont find myself wise! I think only the opinion of those who appreciate one

I get “introvert hangovers” after socializing for too long, where all I can do is sit on the couch for hours totally drained. There is no shortcut to get over them, only rest will help. Your idea of turning days like that into purposeful self-care days is a good one I never thought of. Thanks for all you’ve done and do. 💜💫

Thank you for doing these relaxed conversations with us, they're very much appreciated. As for feeling useless or lack of motivation, that was something I felt off and on until a week ago, when I managed to catch my second wind. And oh, the guilt! It's a shame we often feel that way when we need rest. What helps me is turning to art, making things with my hands. It's therapeutic. But if that doesn't work, I tidy up the space around me, and in turn, tidy up my mind and get it back in gear. If that doesn't work, I grab a book and read. The whole time, I tell those I trust how I'm feeling. Talking helps! Exercise too. (Also, I wanted to let you know that I'm using a new name on here from now on - I messaged you on Instagram about it last week but wasn't sure if you saw or not. So I won't be dropping off! Just going under another name.) Hope you're well, Hendril!

I find that I become completely uninspired when I stop doing stuff or when I start becoming critical of what I'm doing or overcome by self-doubt. And I feel unmotivated mostly when I'm tired or not doing enough things solely for myself that I love to do. I basically just let myself feel that stuff. I accept it, and I let go. I just can't do my work sometimes. Brain fog, distraction, disinterest, exhaustion. And fighting it just doesn't help. Worrying about it doesn't either. The more I try to push, the worse things get. Doing nothing really does work for me (well, typically, I will read or do a puzzle and listen to an audiobook or podcasts), but first I have to accept that today is not a work day, so I can truly relax and not feel guilty. I acknowledge, first and foremost, that I'm not a robot. I'm human. I have my limits. Being productive just isn't the be all and end all: there is so much more to us! So I don't think I'm losing a day, or even two. It's not LOST. Reframe it! It's a day gained for yourself to rest. Even just sitting by a window and observing isn't really nothing. I feel like I need to take this time to refill myself, you know? It's not a waste of time. It IS productive, just not for money or to please others. Also, I have had therapy and the fact that you haven't blows my mind. Your insights and self-awareness are AMAZING. And you have a lovely way with words. Your approach sounds really healthy to me. And I appreciate when you have these chats with us. It really brightens my day because I work from home and spent the majority of my time alone. You make things meaningful. PS. I like the tapping sounds you're making. It kinds of sounds like keyboard typing, or even rain... there is no right and wrong!!

❤❤ thank youuuu❤❤ for sharing, and i agree so much. We all need a reset day every now and then, sometimes its because of our own action or that of exterior forces but we get exausted or simply numb and we must recenter ❤

Yes, when I feel like that I usually boost myself but I am not productive. So usually i just have a bad not productive day. So your solution I think is way better. But yeah.. society is demanding.

well my solution is crying until sleep and then doing nothing for whole day. But end of it, I am turning back the things I should do again.

Thank you for the video!! Preventing burnout or the constant pressure to be creative in a field that is both professional and a favorite pastime is so hard. I understand because I studied interpretation and it stopped being my hobby after I had to deal with it professionally. I need to take breaks and recognize my work is decent otherwise it's so easy to fall into the perfectionist trap and ruin the good vibes. I just remind myself that done is better than perfect and accept it won't be as fun as it used to be sometimes. It's also good to remember that the creative process is a journey and it might be bleak for a while but you still get to see amazing sights when you don't expect it. 😊🩷

owwwn i can relate, i live from what used to be just my hobby too! its certainly a complex thing to balance, to keep loving and not feeling burned out while having to deal with as a "work" now, but its a process indeed and i wish good luck for both of us haha ✨ Thank you! ❤
