It is so shocking to me that people find tomato sandwiches disgusting! I hate tomatoes and nothing makes me wish I liked them more than a tomato sandwich, they look absolutely delicious every time.

I ate 2 on Friday. I wish I had one right now! Edit: I only say Mater if I’m asking my dog if she wants some tomato. Her name is Molly so I say “Molly, would you like a Mater?” She loves them, sans sandwich. Then I call her Molly Mater.

I eat a lot of tomato salads for dinner: sliced tomatoes, onion, black olives and some tuna. Also here in Spain (specially in Catalonia) you have "pan amb tomaquet" (catala for "bread and tomato"). It consists of bread, which may or may not be toasted, with tomato rubbed over and seasoned with olive oil and salt. 😻😻😻

My mom used to make “Italian tomatoes” ; just sliced tomatoes, Italian dressing, a little mozzarella, salt, and pepper. I’d eat a whole bowl of it ❤️

Great video! I was born, raised and live in SoCal and never heard of tomato sandwiches until 4 or 5 years ago when I was watching a cooking show (based in one of the Carolina's) not sure which. She was a chef and lived there. Convincingly she said the best thing she ever ate and still eats is a home grown tomato sandwich, exactly like yours except she also adds pepper. So I took her advice, grew my tomatoes and ate one of the best sandwiches I ever put in my mouth. I like mine with a bit more mayo but other than that it's the same and it's Divine! .

I agree about the accents! As i get older (im almost 30) i feel encouraged to speak without trying to speak correctly, because i recognize a huge part of southern culture is getting washed out. Those tomatoes look AMAZING!

You're so right about homegrown and farmers market tomatoes. My mum used to grow the most amazing cherry tomatoes and made green tomato chutney. I never used to like being on watering duty but the results were always worth it. "Saturate the soil with water everyday so they don't split". She knew if I missed a day 😂

Northern Ohio here. Frost free date is middle of May. First thing I plant are my tomatos. Once they get going I eat many tomato sammies. I can tomato juice and my cherry tomatos I can diced tomatos. My daughter and I just take a salt shaker out to the garden with us for a tasty snack. One year we ate so many we got canker sores from the acid. Didn't stop us. From the middle of Oct. until May I feel deprived..home grown are amazing. We even fry green ones...I'm hungry now.

We are really lucky in Malta, we eat these fresh from the farmers picked the same day. We have Maltese bread (a bit like sourdough) its light and delicious, then we cut the tomato in half (horizontally not vertically) then we squeeze and rub the half tomato on a slice and then drizzle extra virgin olive oil over it. Eat with the remainder of the tomato and either sheep or goat's cheese. Absolutely delicious and the best snack. Love your videos, always listen to them when working 🙂

Thank you for introducing me to the joy of a tomato sandwich! I'd never had one before, so I made one tonight. I live in the UK so can't get the bread or mayo you use, so I used Warburtons old English white bread, Stokes mayonnaise and an orange heirloom tomato from the Isle of Wight. With plenty of sea salt and freshly ground black pepper. It was so delicious, and such a lovely thing to eat in the warm weather we're currently experiencing. It's surprising how delicious simple recipes can be.

In the UK we pronounce it Tom-Art-Toe. It’s currently 11:34pm and I watch your videos do fall asleep but now I’m wide awake and heading downstairs to make a Tomato sandwich 😂

Why would people find tomato sandwiches strange? Im born & bred in London UK & my mum always made them, she was born in the 1940s with parents that had to ration during the war, i grew up thinking tomato sandwiches were just a normal snack, im 48 now with adult children who would look at me like im nuts if i offered them one without cheese in it aswell, people dont know what they are missing 🙄 But wow i would love those cherokee purple tomatoes, cant get them over here
