This is one of my favorite proofs, because it’s a proof on why you can’t divide by 0, and the effects of it. But it’s disguised as a proof of something else

I love this proof. Its one of the few pieces of math that is emotionally evocative. Your teacher or the video shows the work and your mind is blown, you feel like you've been tricked, you want to know the secret.

This took me a while to think out haha, I haven't learned of this yet. Since a-b=0 therefore dividing by that value makes it undefined. Both sides essentially must always equal zero so dividing that out leaves a discontinuity in mathematics. In other words, it makes then unqual by doing bad math haha.

There’s a rule in algebra that if it’s the same variable multiplied by different constants and that equal each other, the variable is 0

@@ben883 He specifically said the same variable multiplied by different constants equaling each other results in the variable being equal to 0. 3x=2x means x=0. I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm saying that everything after however is unnecessary as it's not addressing the comment you replied to.

I remember that video on this, forget what the teacher was but he did this after showing how 0=1. These are pretty fun lil problems to get people to learn more about how math works, kinda sad you don't see them as much in most classrooms

you can’t divide each sides by B because the only way that 2b = b can be posible is if b = 0, you can’t divide by 0

Haha funny. Major problem: if a=b, a-b=0. Dividing by zero (when you try to cancel out the (a-b) which must be zero) will always be an unreal result. As we see, 1=2 is an unreal equation.

I really like: 1 = sqrt(-1 * -1) = sqrt(-1)sqrt(-1) = i^2 = -1 Line 1 going into line 2 is wrong, because u cannot split a surf based on the product of two negatives

2 mistakes: 1. (and the most important): like user-yx1qg2tp2d said, you can't devide (a-b) because it is equal to zero 2: after the first mistake you got a+b=b /-b a=0 b=a=0 As you can see b=0 and at the end you have devided by b, which is the same as devieding by 0.

The error is within the step wherein you cross out the (a-b)'s, because since you said a = b from the beginning, you're effectively dividing by zero which is not allowed.

When we assumed x = Y, then at the fourth step (y-x) it cannot be shortened because at the beginning of the solution we assumed X = y and X-Y = 0 and any number we divide by zero is zero. Please correct • I mean by the letter Y = b and the letter a = X

This is incorrect because in the fourth line (a+b)(a-b) = b(a-b) it can be simplified to (a+b)(0) = b(0) and you cant divide both sides by zero as it is undefined, if you could it would mean every number is equal to every other number as (x)(0) = (y)(0) x=y which is clearly incorrect.
