Good evening! Tonight I'll be going over the history and geography of Australia! This is the re-edited version of the video I made in September 2020.

Aussie viewer here, so this will be a long comment about an interesting bit of geography you may not have known about. In Mount Gambier, South Australia, there is a lake that changes colour. In winter it is a fairly bland greyish colour, but in summer, it turns to a vibrant blue, it’s pretty cool, and one of very few lakes in the world that do that. It is simply called the Blue Lake. There are also a lot of sinkholes and caves in the area, including some with stalactites and stalagmites. The landscape is very interesting too, because it was once just waves of sand hills, but when Mount Gambier, along with other nearby volcanoes erupted, thousands of years ago, the entire area was covered in volcanic ash, upon which grew the lush vegetation. What’s cool is that the shapes of the sand hills still remain today, so a lot of the roads roll up and down the hills like a gentle rollercoaster. In some places, people have even uncovered the sand while digging in their back gardens. Also, our school oval was literally in one of the volcanic craters. Going off track now, I am a big motorsports fan, and I used to live in a place called Alice Springs, smack bang in the middle of Australia. Every year, the Finke Desert Race, a two day off-road race, starts and finishes there, with an overnight camp at the small community of Finke, some 226km away across the desert, splitting the two days of racing. While I’m not usually one for scenery, something about that red, red dirt in central Australia is just iconic to me.

Quick fact check though: truganini was not the last tasmanian aboriginal person. There are still many palawa pakinaw people today. (She was among the last to speak the language though)

Just discovered this video now! So glad you didn't shy away from the Aboriginal perspective and how rough the colonizers were to those people. Great video

This is where I'm from! Very ashamed at all the horrible and in some cases continuing crimes my countrymen have perpetrated which you had to read through in this asmr. Still very calming as always :)

Fun fact about where I live in Australia: There is an ancient volcano in the town of Orange called Mount Canobolas. When it erupted, it erupted with such force that magma under ground was forced out even in areas surrounding the volcano, not just out of the volcano itself. Near the town of Bathurst, where one of the ruptures occured, the lava flowed into a river and it solidified into obsidian. Over millions of years, the rest of the area eroded down, but the now solid river stayed and it formed a mountain, called Mount Panorama. Most people believe Mount Panorama was a volcano, but it was not. Mount Panorama now hosts a race track which is very well known, and many people from around the world come to Bathurst to see the Bathurst 1000 on this race track.

There’s a game called Uncharted (which has 4 parts) and it’s a story line about a guy who’s basically a geography nerd too but explores and finds treasures, maybe you’ll like to see the play through
