For ASOIAF Battle Report 20 the Starks, led by Rickard Karstark, face off against the Boltons, led by Steelshanks Walton. We will be playing the Fire and Blood game mode. Thanks Brent! Yeah poor Zach was not lucky on his panic tests until later in the game. Definitely helps to show what Boltons can do when the dice are in their favor!

@dnaseb9214 I never played WHFB, but from what I’ve seen of WHFB, this game seems way more straight-forward and engaging. Seems like the same situation compared with the Old World as well.

@@imperialminis857 Yes, but Im not interested in Old World, Song of Ice and Fire will scratch that itch for me. I find it more interesting. With the none combat heroes, the models being assembled already from the box. Better price.

Great batrep! Always fun to see Boltons on the table. I think at an hour 30 Ramsay’s unit should have caused one more wound on the loyalists with IP. Don’t think it mattered tho.

Great battle report! don't forget that Bastard's Girls can shift when they shoot to make their charge after easier, but also those charges that ended on the bog would have had to roll 1 higher because of rough

Glad you enjoyed it! Good reminder about the BBG. Since they’re a hybrid ranged/melee unit, it can be easy to forget that ranged shift sometimes. I remembered the Rough keyword during editing, but I don’t think it affected any of the charges being successful.

Congrats on the 1000 subs! I love the battle reports and look forward to each one. Quick note: you're actually not allowed to pivot a unit that was engaged with an enemy destroyed by a ranged attack. Pivoting a unit is only if the enemy was destroyed by a melee attack.

Thanks man! Good callout on the pivot from ranged kills. I’ve legitimately never had that rules conflict pop up before and never realized it was buried in the Surge Forth rule of the rulebook. Thanks for pointing that one out!

The Berserkers would have hit on 2+ after the horific visage test. They were on one rank. Plus the Bonus from the card for a Bonus. The Böackguards might have been dead. That would have been at least two more hits (4 misses, two of them were a two) plus the reroll from the card (probably two more hits)

Yep, the game is very much alive! New factions have come out each year and new unit boxes continue to be released in waves every few months. There’s also a vibrant official global competitive scene for the game.

@londonprescott3611 nice! Just a heads-up, all the cards in that set are outdated, so you’ll need to print off the newest versions of the cards (available on the game’s website), or use the free War Council app.

Hello, does sundering affect each defense dice? For example, my opponent throw 4 dices (defense save roll) with values of 6 5 4 3. With sundering those values should be 5 4 3 2, right?

Sundering affects your defensive save value. This affects of all the attack dice during an attack. So, let’s say, you have a unit of Stark Sworn Swords, and they are attacked by a unit of Knights of Casterly Rock, who have sundering. The Knights score 8 hits on the Sworn Swords. The Sworn Swords usually save on a 4+ defensive roll. Sundering now requires them to save on a 5+ (increasing the chances they take more damage). So then let’s say the Sword Swords roll defense dice for the eight hits and roll a 6,5,5,4,4,3,2,1. With Sundering, the Sworn Swords suffer 5 wounds. Without Sundering, they would have saved on a 4+, they would have only suffered 3 wounds. I hope this makes it more clear!

Also be aware that if your unit is attacked in the flank, this adds another -1 modifier to your defense. And if you’re attacked in the rear, that’s -2. So, in our previous scenario, the Knights charged the Sworn Swords in the flank (side), the Sworn Swords would save on a 6+ instead of a 5+ (-1 for Sundering and -1 for the flank attack). A unit can never go above 6+ though.

Yeah I’d like to hit more big events. I plan for one or two events in 2024, but LVO won’t be one of them. Events will all depend on scheduling and financial considerations. It gets expensive traveling to events!
