I left ITX because of PCIe slot wearing down and having no backup after the fact. Most AMD GPUs no longer work in that Z77 board (P8Z77-I Deluxe W/D) and neither does very power hungry Nvidia cards like 980 Tis. If you go ITX, do yourself a favour and upgrade GPUs at most every 2-3 years. Despite being rated for thousands of seating/ unseating ops, they can wear out much faster no matter how gingerly you do so.

I was waiting for this! I personally have an ITX Asrock motherboard in my daily build. EVen though I bought it back in 2017 and it's a Z370, I've recently upgraded to an i9 9900KF, as I showed in my setup tour, and I was able to reach 5.1Ghz on an ITX System, on that motherboard which wasn't even designed for 8-core CPUs. Of course, it required a delid and a copper IHS, but it was worth it!

I was looking your review of b450 ITX from Asrock back when released. Today I am looking of upgrade I will need in 2021 but I still come to a conclusion that that b450 itx still does everything I need except one thing. It misses 2nd m.2 slot for ssd. That is where asrock did good job with b550. Anyway I can only recommend asrock ITX. Had no issues with it. Bios got better and better after updates. Overclocks ryzen 3200g to 4.2ghz with ease as well as vega 8. Definitely will be looking to Asrock MB when upgrading. Love ITX :)

what kind of SSD can go in the back M.2 slot? I am wanting to put the fastest SSD I can find for storage purposes back there as I am going to be putting the firecuda 520 in the front slot, but was confused with what ASRock says on their website for this board. Can I put the Western Digital Blue SN550 NVME SSD in there and not use it for a boot disk? The ASRock website states for the back slot it supports NVME SSD as boot disks. What does that mean? The Western Digital I am looking at is NVME but I do not want to use it as a boot disk. Sorry for the long post, but if someone could clear that up for me I would appreciate it, thanks!

Do itx boards have less power than an atx? Or less capabilities? Just got this with a 6700xt off of Newegg shuffle. Would it be okay with a 5900x and a 6700xt? I got 4000mhz ram and a gen4 ssd lol. Is that overkill for this Mobo?

Interesting there's no RGB control on the ASROCK bios, my X399 Asrock board actually does have RGB control in bios, shame they left that out on the newer boards.

I own the x570 asrock ITX and its awesome. Purely bought it for the inclusion of Thunderbolt 3. Solid board, only gripe is the annoying sys bus fan that spins up to 6000 rpm, silent profile makes it better though. Not sure why the B550 is the same price with less features though

So this actually would be great for my H1 because there’s the fan right next to the VRM heatsink and the SSD heatsink so they will both get very adequate cooling

I managed to get my local microcenter to price match the ASRock b550 itx to a ASrock b550-m itx.... Best deal I ever got. Both boxes say ASRock B550. The -M is barely noticable

Brian could you please test 1st gen ryzen on these b550 boards? I play at 1440p and have an 1800x and i want a good board with mem oc support and that can handle an oc 1800x at 4.0ghz with 3466mhzcl14 and the b550m are it. Would really appreciate it.

@Tech Yes City, I'm Australian and I build, upgrade, and repair my own PCs. I have also noticed the straight-up doubling of the US prices here. I noticed it over the last 6 months or so. I suspect it is the new norm. They never used to follow the currency conversion anyways.

You should also look into the Asrock b550m itx. It's the cheapest itx b550 board by a country mile ($100 aud between it and the next cheapest). Some people expressed concern about the weak heatsink and i'd like to see how much that affects performance with the higher core count models. I'm getting one once the stock resupplies so for me it's validating my purchase but there could be alot of interest as no one else has done a video on it.

I went Gigabyte X570 ITX over all others for SFF cooler compatibility, VRM efficiency, 2x 4.0 m.2, and a preference for Intel Gigabit LAN over Realtek 2.5Gbe. If it had Optical Audio, it would be my perfect board for this generation. Eliminating the integrated video traces and connectors for a $250 USD board would allow more enthusiast features, or just USB ports.

I'm not an ITX fan but , I am an ASRock fan. I've noticed ASRock doesn't get much attention from other reviewers. btw, the B550m pro4 has a better feature set than the full atx B550 pro4. I'm waiting for someone to do a thorough review on the B550m pro4, as that's the one I have my eye on (hint) ..... anyway, thank you and cheers from Alaska 🍻🍻

Covid made sure that that wasnt happening. I don't think that any of the b450 boards were under $150 anyway. The b450 aorus and b450i gaming were $180-190 and the strix was $220 pre-covid.

It's more expensive because of that PCIe 4.0. Newer technology usually costs more until it matures.

@@cosmicusstardust3300That depends entirely on the technology and the manufacturing processes involved (at least when we're talking mass produced consumer electronics). Might as well be a business decision, as AMD is very popular, has been on the same socket for years and even a lot of enthusiasts go for B450 over the X470 lineup. Compared to the years of Intel dominance and anually Z line motherboard refreshes the manufacturers must be loosing a lot of revenue...

@@jacket0708 The price hike is justifiable. B550 is definitely an upgrade over B450. PCie 4.0 is one thing to say it has over B450 and also a nice little bonus with that it has no stupid chipset fan. Another one is that it has way better VRM, at least for the ones that are $180 and up. Like for example the $280 B550 Aorus master has a true 16 phase power delivery with very good cooling on the VRMs, the same exact VRM you'd get on the $700 X570 Aorus Extreme.

The weight of the VRM heatsink makes absolutely no sense if you're trying to compare how much heat it can transfer, the thing that matters the most is its surface area

I think asrock did a big oopsie not including tb3 on this board. Their itx z390 phantom gaming has tb3 and it was even cheaper than this board. I might have a 3600 but at this point I think I’d rather have a 10600kf with the unify itx board. It might be the best looking itx board ever made.

i am sure their board is safe, mine with h81m-vg4 for haswell gen 4 is still working fine until now since 2014 i think, no problem at all just to change cmos battery once and the rest is still working fine, just make sure you're using decent psu

AMD Motherboards prices are skyrocketing thanks to this reviews, they are fine and recommend a 200 USD itx motherboard which is a lot lot cheaper to manufacture than previous FULL ATX Motherboards for AMD Cpus before AMD was selling well.

The X series motherboards make no sense on ITX. I only use ITX for the past 4 years or so. My first AM4 board was the Biostar X370 ITX board, but that's simply because it was the first Ryzen ITX board to market. My next was the ASRock B450 and I'll be building with this B550 board as soon as I am able to flash the bios for Ryzen 5000.
