Johns' was a collective noun used in the nineteenth century to describe a ship's deckhands. So the phrase 'my John' doesn't necessarily invoke a person's name; rather it is the equivalent of 'my sailor' or 'my deckhand'.

Fun fact: it sounds so realistic because these were all done mostly in one day and one take. They didn’t have time to make it sound “perfect” so it sounds like a bunch of sailors

David Gossage in Montreal produced this and chose the singers. He plays flute in the production too. It's funny, except for one of us, who's a legit Celtic singer, the three or four others of us are expert singers in Bach and Handel or cassical contemporary music etc. We had a total blast recording this, which was done under great time-preassure in fact. We've done a few AC games, (more or less the same crew), because apparently we can sing what-ever you WANT! :D It's been a great ride, exploring a lot historical popular music.

You may enjoy some of the pubs in Dublin. Packed in, shoulder to shoulder, Irish folk songs started playing and everyone joined in to sing. We had a blast over there. Not sure how common this is but we caught it at one pub, on a Friday night.

Fuck that expensive shithole. Go anywhere else in Ireland and you get twice the pint (quality wise), for roughly half the price. You'll get way better company too. I'm from rural south west Cork (the city is about three hours south west of Dublin by motorway). Go to Cork city or even better go to a rural village pub.

It's the best pirate sim in the series, sure. I'll even go so far as to say it's tge best pirate-themed game in my Addassimation-focused series that I didn't know I wanted But, in all seriousness, Brotherhood or Revelations is where AC peaked. I didn't want everything to be about Ezio, either, but I'll be damned if moving on, & eventually killing Desmond, wasn't the beginning of the end BTW, they could've recovered from killing Desmond. It would've been rough, but doable. Instead they fucked up hard, then doubled down on it

I remember playing this on the Wii U, it was a fresh console and we saw Black Flag for free, we downloaded it and we (my brother and I) played it to the ground! It was truly the only Assassin's Creed game I ever played, and boy did I cry.

Some of these shanties were all that kept me playing Black Flag long after I had finished the story. Loved the game, but it got very repetitive after a while. The shanties helped me get 100% completion.

Lowlands away was always my favourite in that game and Padstow's Farewell was number two and it hasn't changed. I need to play that game again

There was just something about lowlands. I only remember it when black flag crosses my mind. It makes me so sad but happy in nostalgia. I can’t explain it. The warm feel of the Caribbean and the tropical feel and the sand and the water mannnn. I really don’t know. I sure hope u see this although it’s 3 years late. These made manually travelling EVERWHERE EVERYTIME, instead of using the fast travel feature, made every moment an absolute delight. I spent more time being a Pirate than I spent being an assassin... kinda did most of the pirate stuff before I did the story lmao 10/10 wish they had another game like this

thank you so much for posting this.. there was a few songs were i had no idea what song they were singing and i coudn't figure it out till i found your list and heard the songs.... wish they had it were they show what they were singing as you were sailing... and as Derpacis... not quite the same with out the sounds of the sea going on
