The term is often used interchangeably with "samurai," although there are some nuances between the two. While "samurai" specifically refers to those who served a lord and were part of the hereditary warrior class, "bushi" is a broader term that can include all warriors, not just those of noble birth. In Yasuke's case, being referred to as a bushi acknowledges his role as a warrior, even if he did not fit the traditional mold of a samurai.

If we were to portray the story according to historical fact, we should have started by depicting Yasuke as a slave brought to Japan, where he met Nobunaga, and was taken over as a porter, and portrayed him as a man at the mercy of history. It may be true that Nobunaga transformed him from an "object" into a "person," but he was not a warrior who was given armor and the like. The reason why we made such a change was because we didn't want to portray the evil deeds of white people as they were. After all, it is a game made by white people. Thomas Lockley The whole thing is his fault. He is an English teacher at a Japanese law school. He is by no means a history expert. He fabricated Japanese history to suit white people, and in his book he fabricated the story that Japan used black slaves. He is distributing his book around the world, pretending to be an expert, in order to push the wrongdoings of white people onto Japan.

For anyone wondering, Yasuke was an african guy who was brought to Japan by the Portuguese and served as retainer for the daimyō. He technically wasnt a samurai, but this change isnt the craziest thing to believe in an Assassin's Creed game 😂

The story, of course, is complete fiction! It's not the first time Yasuke has been mythologized in a game and dressed in full samurai armor. Versions of him appear in the games Nioh, and in Samurai Warriors 5. Obviously we have no idea if he fought in samurai armor. What accredited historians have stated is that he was a samurai, by the understanding of the sengoku period (not the Edo period with its restrictions). Folks stating that he was "just a retainer", are less than dumb. They are willfully ignorant of the fact that ALL high ranking soldiers pledged to Oda Nobunaga were retainers. What indicates Yasuke a samurai, besides just a high ranking solder, was that Yasuke was granted land, servants, and given two katanas (not just "short swords" as its states in the vandalized Wikipedia article). All of this is well documented in books and even in KZfaq documentaries from YEARS ago. Stop being weird and get out more.

Ubi's elaboration around the truth has no limits lol. Ubi chose Yasuke for marketing reasons to attract neglected audiences, to increase the number of players and more money ;) The last time we had a black protagonist was 10 years ago, this is the truth, period. Nothing against black people, it is the Ubi's business decision here in question because they have deliberately chosen this story over many other and more popular real Japanese characters and stories during that era. Why add the brute Samurai in the game? Wasn't the ninja enough? Of course not. Follow the money! Without a proper hack/slash, protagonist Ubi wouldn't be able to sell easily the game to a huge audience of gamers and particularly those who didn't like the Mirage and rated it low. Ubisoft might get this right? Faaarrrrr from it! I only need a blade and Assassin's Creed meaningful narrative in the game to play. So I'll enjoy reading the Assassin's Wiki and all about the Japanese Brotherhood, Master Assassin Hatori and his ninjas who have fought the Templars in Japan since 1549 to bring order on the island and protect the artefact, the sword of Eden. So you people who close your eyes on this, carry on getting hyped about this duo of protagonists who are nothing more than Avengers tightened on another family drama and run on a parallel narrative with Assassin's Creed.

Here is a true question, How many characters in Assassin's Creed (AC 1 through AC Valhalla) were playable and if any of them were true historical people from the past? The ANSWER is very simple, "None." All the "playable" characters in AC 1 through AC Valhalla were all fictional characters, Yasuke was a real historical person who was nothing more than a retainer, not a samurai. Yasuke IS A REAL HISTORICAL BLACK MAN WHO WAS NOTHING BUT A RETAINER FOR Oda Nobunaga! "Real Historical Person," Yasuke was and is but a "Retainer." The other Assassin's Creed characters from Assassin's Creed 1 through Assassin's Creed Valhalla are "Fictional," characters that DO NOT EXIST IN ACTUAL HISTORY. Just like for example, that if you say something from a long time ago by word-of-mouth, then someone says it in a different word or words than that word-of-mouth or whatever you said can be different. And we cannot forget about WWII that many things could’ve been lost because of the war, and we may never know from certain items to certain documentations were burnt or been completely annihilated because of the two bombs, but we don’t know. I’m not saying that this can be a true story or not but all we know that he was nothing more than a retainer and that is it. I am sorry to say, but until there is actual more evidence like where is Yasuke Katana sword? Where is it? Does anyone know? Because if you have that sword and it has his name on it and approves that he was a samurai, but in the end, no sword, no proof that he was a samurai. Assassin's Creed is just now a "Shadow Shell," of itself and an empty husk. There was an opportunity they could have used instead of a fictional black samurai character and in real history he was a retainer not a samurai. Combined both true history and fiction, Japanese women at the time did learn to use a particular weapon called, "Naginata," a Polearm weapon with a curved blade at the top. While the katana sword tends to be associated with male samurai of Japan, a distinctive weapon called the naginata has been traditionally associated with women and female fighters known as onna-bugeisha. This could have been the base of a Japanese Assassin's Creed Story, with a Japanese Woman who learned to use the Naginata and eventually learns the way of the Assassin's Brotherhood. Do you know why they don’t want to make a game based in Africa, especially in Assassin’s Creed well because in actual history, many of the warring tribes enslaved their own kind. In about 90% or even 80% of the black population of today, don’t want to admit that their own kind in Africa, their own ancestors in Africa enslaved their own kind. This is why they don’t want to make any Assassin’s Creed games based in Africa. I know they already did Egypt, but I am talking other African countries or places in Africa other than Egypt like South Africa, Algeria, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, and the other 48 African countries.

Two big red flags with making Yasuke a main character. 1. We have never had a historical figure or "anyone from history" as a main character in any Assassins Creed games. They are always the side characters you interact with. The main characters are original characters to their stories. 2. The main characters have always been from their setting, region, and culture. They are from the area. And if there are two main characters they BOTH are, not just one. They broke both traditions in one game and quite frankly it is a middle finger to Japan. If you wanted a historical figure why not pick someone actually Japanese........like Oda? And why in the world have one of the main characters not be from the region when we finally hit Japan? The game we have wanted for years.
