I've been the show piece there before. All these people citing Wikipedia to back either side of this argument are ridiculous. If they kept him as an NPC in this game, there'd be practically no complaints considering their constant fictions with previous NPCs. Making him an MC at the last minute is practically the dictionary definition of tokenism.

Because it came after Ghost of Tsushima, Nioh, Sekiro, Rise of the Ronin, Isshin, and other japanese feudal games that are highly praised while Ubisoft makes mediocre games at best for more than a decade. They took too long.

I get the same feeling, even if I remove my disdain for what this series has become, and my hatred for ubisoft as a company, it's easy to feel underwhelmed by this. Because they're late to their own trend, ac fans have been asking for a Japan game for years, but look at how many games set in this era or have used it as inspiration have released. Sekiro, nioh 1 and 2, rise of the ronin, not to mention the biggest elephant in the room ghost of tsushima. Which is basically everything we wanted from a potential Japan set Assassin's creed, leaves me feeling like it's too late, what's the point of this now.

Wait for gameplay before writing it off.
