I finally got around to doing my own no upgrades and man what a much more fun experience. I always wondered why the "assassiny" feeling faded for me once I got mid way through the story and I realized it was because I was too upgraded to really feel vulnerable. Any accidental detection or mess up could just be solved by spamming smoke and just hitting the enemy repeatedly or using the God combo. It made those moments such a chore, and it's also because admittedly because I'm not so good at stealth. But this playthrough made me a much better player. Encounters are basically always dangerous, open combat is hardly an option and a lot of techniques don't work (the instant ground kill, smoke spam, staggering strike). Being limited to just the default gear warrants creativity, and for anyone trying this playthrough here are some techniques I developed. Stalling: I didn't know what to call this but basically if you do get in open combat, particularly out in the city (mostly during those crowd events) you can move towards an alley way or an escape route while parrying attacks. The goal here isn't to actually damage the enemy, but lead them into a trap. Once you're in position to dash down the alley, wait for a perfect parry and start running. Take a corner or cover and abuse the cover kill mechanic (or escape). Berserk cluster kill: in addition to the Berserk stun as well as the intended feature, berserking targets will bring in a large number of enemies to join into the fight. From a hidden position you can use a smoke bomb on everyone in that area and kill them. You may have to use multiple smokes but you can kill a large number of enemies like this. (Note this may not always work as some enemies will magically detect you when you throw the smoke. To avoid this make sure no enemy has a red exclamation mark over their head). Side hops minimize bullet hit: if you're watching Leo k then you probably know side hops are an efficient way to climb buildings, but it will also minimize the amount of shots you take. Basically the animation Arno does will take him off the center line of the fire, allowing you to avoid some bullets. It doesn't work 100% of the time though so be careful. Sorry for the long post but I hope someone who wants to do a playthrough like this enjoys their time and develops other unorthodox tactics.

I'm going too give it a go. it enhances the gameplay so much. I did the same with DX mankind did a permadeath run with minimum augs. also with ghost of tshushima in New game plus mode and using only cursed charms fraility and exhaustion too spike the difficulty and up the realism. I like urs and Leo's train of thought as I always try and make games harder and more realistic. glad too know there are others of us out there.

I've tried playing unity this way with arno original gear (with upgrades) along side a better quality sword for fighting and the common pistol for headshoting snipers at a distance, I've got to say playing through the game this way makes the experience alot more better than playing with higher ranked gear, forcing you to be the perfect stealth tactician while planning everything out beforehand and making full use of every consumables you have on hand. Watching your playthrough inspired me to try this out and I have no regrets,Thanks,

I agree! I'm so glad you gave it a shot, it's almost like playing a different game. And since Unity doesn't have a Difficulty Select, it's pretty much the equivalent of playing on Hard Mode. I got a lot more value out of this game, and some extra hours of gameplay that I wouldn't have gotten otherwise, by playing this way. It's definitely a unique and interesting experience, and something to try if you already have a decent grasp on the game's mechanics otherwise. Thank you for your comment, I really appreciate hearing about your experience.

Respect your Unity vids man, I just got a ps4 with it and started playing and I love it, definitely a lot better than I was told. It is my hope that if this series ever ends, that it ends with the modern day assassin's and templars reaching a mutual understanding (perhaps while ending up stopping Juno together), that both orders have existed throughout time due to a sort of yin and yang, as a way of maintaining a balance for human nature. Yes, humanity was created by a creator in order to be creative, and humanity is absolutely at it's best when it has the freedom to do so. However, the unfortunate reality is that we are all born with an alter ego, and since this ego happens to be the foundation of our personalities, and the true underlying cause of our sense of existential isolation and separation from God and thus leaves us prone to all sorts of addictions, distractions and hunger in order to fill that void felt inside, it must be kept in check via order, purpose and justice whenever it rears it's ugly head. Have you ever noticed that all of the templar and assassin conflicts occurred due to one organization getting a little too big for it's britches? While the assassin's stand for unstifled creative freedom and liberty, whenever they became too anarchic, animalistic and unchecked, the templars stepped in to wall them and restore order and boundries. And while the templars stand for order, purpose and illumination, whenever they became too corrupted, controlling or power hungry, the assassin's stepped in to liberate that control and return creative freedom to the people. It would seem that both ideologies have a vital place as long as a balance between the two is respected. So to paraphrase Haytham Kenway, BOTH orders are born out of a realization, and BOTH only require the world to be as it is, and BOTH will ensure that the essence of humanity will never be destroyed.

Mokshaj Kapadia yes lol i was referring to the real life move called wall pounce. In like a cat leap which is when u jump to a wall and grab the top of it with your feet and your legs hit the wall and u hang. So a wall pounce is if there is no ledge for u to grab ur legs hit the wall and u use your hands onto the wall and u kinda “stick” on the wall for a second then fall. Very situational move but it also can be used if u go for a cat leap and don’t make it to reach for the ledge so u wall pounce and fall down

Couple of things I'd like to mention. A.) Arno's more simple outfits are some of the best looking in this game (mainly his starter robes and the Arno's Tailored gear set) and I wish that they could have been used as a skin for the somewhat outlandish Legendary Phantom gear that I'm using for end-game content. B.) You kind of do a side eject at 1:04:18, sorta? Epic.
@LeoKRogue
@LeoKRogue 4 жыл бұрын
Agreed on the outfits, it's a shame that the endgame gear is so ridiculously overdressed, visually. As for the side eject, not only is it a side eject, which are already rare as all hell, but it's _also_ a Descending Side Eject, which means it wasn't done with X/A/Legs, it was done with O/B/Drop! That's why he smoothly moves down.

I did almost the same thing. Aside from some weapons and clothes, I didn't buff my health and skills at all. The game would have been too easy otherwise. Granted, the final boss is kinda cheap when he can one-shot you, but it wouldn't feel like a final boss to beat it on the first try. ...Such a shame the story didn't really pay off at all. I loved the first few games, cuz when you found an artifact in the past, you would THEN try to find it in the current day. It always felt like part of the MAIN storyline...but the recent games have just focused on the past. When you find an artifact, they just tell you 'good work' and that's it... Imagine if the movie Willy Wonka ended after Charlie found his golden ticket, and they just leave you to assume everything went smooth afterwards. Honestly the best part of Unity, was climbing the eiffel tower, and immediately afterward they say "Don't worry, that won't happen again..". >_< I almost lost my sh*t, cuz it's like the creators INTENTIONALLY troll the player. They KNOW we want stuff like that, or they wouldn't have put it in the game at all! --- Personally I want the game to take place in current day, with full access to the Animus. You THEN get to CHOOSE the time period you go to, where you search for clues to the artifacts, and then return to current day to claim them!
@abstruseoni
@abstruseoni 5 жыл бұрын
@Diewott1 But that's the problem...They don't really 'connect' to each other anymore.. Unity was just a Romeo and Juliet story that had nothing to do with the other games or the main storyline.

URGH YES! What was the point in the server glitches?? They said something about them being tracked, and made you run to spots to switch servers, so I thought something would happen and cause you to leave the animus and return to present day. Then you climb the eiffel tower and the glitches stopped!?!? ...Why?? Why even put that in the story?? There was no payoff. I agree, it was just there to tease the player into wanting more, but they never delivered.

Finished the campaign yesterday and felt lackluster trying to collect all the filler collectibles. So I'm going to delete my save file and run through the game with this mindset, I already got plenty of use through your advanced techniques video and this should make it all the more interesting. I can also focus more on missions and /certain/ collectibles rather than clean districts piecemeal like I did (while fun at the start, gets very boring and messes the pace a bit). I may make use of some skills later on, some missions require lockpicking to even be able to access them but we'll see. Looking forward to the more tactical, skill-based gameplay :)

@@LeoKRogue I'm really glad I started over with this "challenge", it's a completely different and much more enjoyable experience, and in some way, it's the way a hard mode Assassin's Creed game is meant to be played. I never realized how much Unity really changes the paradigm, in previous game (except maybe the first one), you were this superhuman being capable of dispatching enemies with ease and I never really broke a sweat playing Assassin's Creed, but I don't think I want a different experience now. Here's a few ways it impacted my experience: 1. Resource scarcity: the only thing I "cheated" was in equipping the basic pistol, which I felt was part of the base arsenal for me and it's a good back-up weapon for when I ran out of Phantom Blade ammunition (not to mention dealing with those pesky gunners). I realized how important cherry and especially smoke bombs are, and despite having less of them I find myself using them more often and in more varied ways (in the same way, I realized how I barely used the other tools such as poison gas or the money pouch, as their absence didn't affect me much). Also, thank God(s) for the Hidden Blade! 2. Tactical gameplay: being forced to approach missions methodically and requiring preparation (or, literally die) felt extremely rewarding and enjoyable, but also the difficulty made my reactions when I failed much better and I found myself adapting better to being spotted or any changes within the missions themselves. I found myself tilting much less as well, since failures were mostly my own and learning what I did wrong and why gives a sense of progression (though occasionally a game mechanic gone awry or a bug/glitch forced me to reload a checkpoint or restart a mission). 3. Minimal HUD: using a simplified HUD made me more dependent on my own skill and tools rather than staring at a minimap or HUD pop-ups. It also greatly immersed me in the world of revolutionary Paris - the attention to detail and the lived-in feel of the city is really one of the high points of this game, and I find myself appreciating it even more. 4. The few things I changed from full hardcore are things which I consider basic but essential: the pistol, lockpicking (just the first tier), and communal sense (I play a lot of co-op). No gear changes, upgrades or skills from here on. I really like how simple and functional Arno's original gear looks too (I did slap a different colour on it though) :) I frankly don't think of Odyssey as an Assassin's Creed game, and though it seems enjoyable, it also feels over-the-top and too steeped in fantasy for me to enjoy, so I will not be purchasing it. I do hope they return to pre-Origins AC (though I did enjoy Origins a great deal, much more so than Syndicate which I find to be average), and really expand on what Unity did and what it could've been. Unity is really a great game, with many flaws, yes, but great. And being able to play like this really illustrates the depth of the game and the many ways one can play it. Sorry for the long post lol
@LeoKRogue
@LeoKRogue 5 жыл бұрын
All forgiven for the long post; no apology needed anyway. Means you got detailed and truly expressed yourself - that's how it should be. I'm liking the modifications you selected to your own run -- Challenge Runs are a deeply personal thing, and while I've provided a framework, the goal is always for people to enjoy and extend their own gameplay in clever ways. The best way to achieve that is to create your own ruleset that will put just enough strain on you, while giving you a good amount of responses to situations. Looks like you hit it pretty spot on! :D Pistol is a good skill to have. It's not ridiculous and it adds an extra option, especially for letting you deal with Gunners, because normally you'd be completely lost without a Firearm. (They have the same sight-range as your Pistol Attack Range, so the two game-elements counter each *other.*) I really like the atmosphere and clutter of AC Unity, it's not something I've seen replicated by any game except maybe RDR2 haha. (Hope it comes to PC T__T) I don't really think of Odyssey as an AC game either, it's too far off baseline for me. I can enjoy it if I try, and it's a fun thing to burn some time in, finish some markers in, listen to music and grind some enemies in, but it's such a different experience on a very central level that it's basically a totally different game. I'd love to see a Unity 2, if not in name, then in spirit. An Origins 2 would be fine, as well, if they brought back the level of intent AC Unity had. :P There are rumors that "AC Kingdom" is an upcoming Viking game, and I'm worried that it'll be more like Odyssey 2.0 than Origins 2.0. I know which of those I would prefer. Odyssey is fine - I do not begrudge the players who Love it. I'm just not one of them. (I'll still cover the game and do my shenanigans on it though, because views is views xD) Thank you, by the way, for actually coming back to me and letting me know how it's going.

@@LeoKRogue No problem, I don't see many KZfaqrs as engaging with their audience. It's nice to see it :) They definitely seem to be taking the RPG route and seeing as it's a model that works (sells), I don't think we'll be seeing anything like Unity for a while, but fingers crossed now that interest is back on the game.

Just watched it throughly, it was honestly interesting to see your point of view on things in this game and how you feel about it. P.S. You might have understood it now but I think Napoleon found the key(in the King's study room) that was used to open the vault beneath Franciade.

I started playing assasins creed 2 and boy was i addicted.so ubisoft launch unity as free about a month ago and just had to try it.mechanis was okay but quite unrealistic (compared to Ac 1)but the story was also quite nice actually.i didnt get why people hate unity.was not that good but above average.and i agree with some of the comments saying that the story was too short!shouldve made it longer .now that ive finished the story,im still not satisfied because ibe focused mostly on the main story and didnt bother about the side quest.overall i would give unity 7.5/10. o yeah.paris lookss amaaaaazing here! 😍

Lots of story content was definitely cut from Unity, and it becomes more obvious when we play the game multiple times. Pretty nice game though, some cool tricks can be done in it. ^_^

Fun Fact: The mission you kill arnos dad in rouge you can actually see Arno and Elise when they where kids. And it add ip to the cute scene in unity after Arno steals the apple.
