As part of our 'From Suit To Shoot' Series, following the journey of preparing for a proper driven shoot on an estate in Scotland, one of the key aspects was the shotguns. The brace of guns supplied to us was from world famous gunmakers James Purdey & Sons. In this short, you can see these incredible $60,000 Purdey shotguns being assembled onsite, by Purdey's aftersales service manager, James Bryan.

I feel like not shooting it is an insult to some gunsmiths. There are some who wouldn't like you to shoot their guns sure, they probably prefer the artistry over the actual gun. However I'm willing to bet there's atleast one gunsmith who's made a beautiful gun like this and wants you to shoot it

@hoofie2002 what makes a Purdy gun so special to cost $250,000 I'm legit just trying to learn about what makes them worth so dang much. I'm not a gun enthusiasts but something about this gun interests me. I'm gonna do some Google research too. But would be cool to have a humans opinion and knowledge shared with me. I hope you can getvback to me. As this thread was started 9 months ago lol

@@shirleyaspasia2159 Like most expensive overpriced things; the legacy and the name behind it. I put that disclaimer because that's how it is nowadays. Yes, these things and many other products used to live up to that with master craftsmanship. But if you have a trained eye, you can tell that this gun like most bespoke pieces now are simply manufactured elsewhere in a poor country. This gun is cheap quality

250к? Is it one of a pair? P.S. watched again - yes it is. There seems to be a second Gun in the box. So it must be 125k for one gun, which is « reasonable » in that category, sort of. 12 gauge which he’s holding are also cheaper than 20 gauge, usually. At the same time, Guns in pairs are individually more expensive than single ones.

Is it an antique museum piece that it’s so expensive? Nothing else would justify such a price tag. A shotgun is a very primitive weapon that’s very easy to make. Yes, obviously the maker of this piece used the best materials and the engraving work is expensive, obviously. Plus the history and the heritage of the brand. Ok. 10,000 pounds perhaps would make sense. But a quarter of a million? That’s a price of a country home or a modest apartment in London (or New York).

As with a lot of things you pay equally for the name ofc. The receiver looks to be made out of silver, probably handselected walnut stock and forend that has been handcarved together with the absolutely gorgeous hand engraving and the barrels are most likely handforged and tuned, so say they put between 200-500 hours into building that gun with everything just painstakingly made to perfection. Even if ot is a simple gun, the work is without compare and handmade all through. Then again so is the case so you pay a pretty penny for that too with the gun😂

It's real pretty... it's what we call a hot house flower.... it withers under extreme conditions ... and another consistency any more for carrying that, I would avoid like the plague... believe it or not I got a dozen real world examples... they made of themselves. Real pretty
