In this video, you can see how I set it up without the help of a second person. It was very easy - a lot easier than I thought it would be. I did make a few mistakes that I point out - hopefully, you won't make them. :)
If you want to see more on this tent, check out the blog that shows which stove I used, how it faired out in zero degrees weather, and more.

Last night sustained wind gusts of 31 MPH and it held up just fine. I was worried to be honest, but super impressed. All those guy ropes kept it intact. The tent is set up in my backyard and the wind got so loud it kept waking me up and I kept looking outside to see how it was doing. So, other than some lost sleep no harm done.

Hooray! I finally was able to set up this tent all by myself. I positioned the front and back between two trees, and lashed the back side high up on a tree, and the front was staked into the ground. No more having to deal with one side flopping over when I lifted the other side. I didn't bother gradually increasing the height of the poles, I just put them at their full height and worked them into place. The biggest problem with this tent is that the pole bag is heavy as all get out, and the tent is, too. The tent isn't likely to ever fit into the storage bag I was sent. I've been using that to store the tarps and mallet, instead. The tent is wonderfully roomy inside. I think that will be a big plus should I ever use it in the snow, when I will likely spend more time than normal inside.

I am a small woman, just set mine up for the first time. I’m sweating haha Tie off back to a tree, ladder rack on car or like he used a t post. If back is tied higher up and not staked it is much easier. Don’t forget to thread window through guy lines or you’ll have to re do it. I am on rocky soil a few inches under the grass so some stakes couldn’t go all the way in and therefore I’m a tad tad bit off center. I love the tent!

NIce, wish I had read this before I set mine up. It just occurred to me to try lashing it to a tree to help set it up and it turned out it worked. Never thought of using the car or a post. I just used a tree instead of a stake for the back and it worked perfectly fine. Figured if it helped me get the tent up, it was good enough to just leave it there.
@2369daisy

I did the same. If there is a tree I use that - it can only make it more stable. The easiest way to set it up though is to ask for someone to help lift one side while you lift and tie the other. Lol

Pro tip for ya… Buy a bunch of 3/8” by 10” lag bolts and bring a cordless impact drill and anchoring will take a fraction of the time and also be a lot more secure. It will also go thru hard ground or smaller rocks really easy. My friends do that with their Kodiak Canvas 10x14 and I do it with my 12x12 plus enclosed awning. It will stand up to wet ground, rain, snow, and heavy wind better than the stakes.

Hey Charlie, great videos, after watching them I now have one on back order through your company. I was just wondering what your thoughts were on head room for this tent? I'm used to the Cabelas Alaknak which has a much higher peak height over 9'. The Kodiak at 7'5 height seems pretty low. Just curious how this affects the room closer to the walls...that's my only concern, I'm roughly 6'4 and nervous it will be too short. Thanks for your input.
@Competitiveedgeproducts
@Competitiveedgeproducts 4 жыл бұрын
Great question Buck. In one of the videos I think I have the camp chair pretty close to the wall and it didn't bother me any, but I'm not 6'4". The gear including cots and sleeping bags I stored around the perimeter which was perfect, but as for standing room I am picking about tents and being able to stand up straight and stretch out without my head or arms touching it. This tent was plenty big for that purpose and most of the time I'm in the tent I'm just sitting, sleeping, or kneeling to tend the fire. Standing and walking in and out and around - it felt very spacious and roomy to me. I went camping over this last weekend with a 12x9 and having spent a lot of time in the 12x12 over the winter there is a huge difference in space. I missed the 12x12. The walls begin tapering at 4'. I hope that helps. If not, please let me know.

Great videos! Would this 12x12 Lodge Tent (6170) fit on a platform that is exactly 12’ x 12’? Or do the poles sit outside the 12x12 floor size?
@Competitiveedgeproducts
@Competitiveedgeproducts 4 жыл бұрын
Very good question. I just measured the guy ropes and almost all of them come out about 5' feet. I could fudge it a bit smaller if I want to and I could extend them further (and probably would in a bad wind storm). That means your tent footprint is 12x12, but you'll need access to the ground measuring at about 22'x22'. Hope that makes sense. If I had trees nearby I'd even consider tying them to the trees for the best support. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hey Charlie. I got my tent delivered today and set it up. I love it. I noticed I too have an extra stake. I noticed that the tent is missing one stake loop. It’s the one closest to the stove on the side that is missing. Is this normal or is it a flaw from the assembly line?

@Competitiveedgeproducts
@Competitiveedgeproducts Жыл бұрын
I fold it so that it is always canvas touching canvas. Meaning, the bottom of the floor (even though I've dried it) doesn't touch the canvas. I start by folding it into thirds with the two edge side thirds meeting in the middle. Then I set the bag at the end so I can fold it again the same way in thirds, but to fit the length of the bag. I hope that helps. It sounds confusing to me just reading it and I'm the one who wrote it.

Great video. Did you feel the need to put a ground cloth or tarp under the tent floor?
@Competitiveedgeproducts
@Competitiveedgeproducts 4 жыл бұрын
Oh, I'm so glad you mentioned that. I spaced that. Yes, if I were not setting it up on soft grass I would have used a tarp. There is not 12x12 tarp in the Kodiak line...at least not yet. There also isn't a floor liner...yet. So, I would use the 12x9 tarp or the 10x14 tarp and fold the difference under. The floor is very thick so I don't think it would need to be used necessarily to protect it although it would in a sharp rocky area, but moreso to avoid wiping the bottom of the floor off with a towel to get the ground moisture off when rolling up the tent.
