NASA has discovered an asteroid that could pose a threat to our planet. 2023DW could strike Earth on Valentines Day in 2046. What are the chances of it actually happening?

That BFR (big fat rock) did an Airburst at around 5Km up and the resulting blast flattened over 2100 sq Kilometers of Forrest. 99942 Apophis, also known as 2004 MN4, is an asteroid that was discovered in 2004. Initially, it was believed to have a small chance of impacting Earth in 2029 or 2036. However, further observations and refinements to its orbit have shown that the chances of it hitting Earth are extremely low. As of now, astronomers predict that Apophis will safely pass by Earth at a distance of about 19 million miles (31 million kilometers) on April 13, 2029. This close approach will provide scientists with valuable data to further refine the asteroid's orbit and determine its future trajectory. In summary, there is currently no reason to believe that Apophis will hit Earth in the foreseeable future.

Like he said, our atmosphere will most likely erode 90% of the asteroid.
@kwils66853 ай бұрын
That would depend entirely on the composition of the asteroid, while it might be true for a C-type more of an S-Type asteroid would probably make it through the atmosphere a significant portion of an M-type asteroid would definitely make it through the atmosphere. Of course a lot depends on where and at what angle it enters the atmosphere and at what speed.
