Aston “Family Man” Barrett, the legendary and longtime bassist of Bob Marley and the Wailers who helped spread reggae music around the world, has died at 77. Sunday TODAY’s Willie Geist remembers a life well lived.

Apprecialove this tribute. He was an artist of our times. Blessed to call him my mentor, friend, and family. We performed with Wailers at Roxy Theater West Hollywood, CA 02/03/04. Was supposed to see him Feb 5. He transitioned 02/03/24. Exactly 20 years to date. Humble, encouraging, welcoming, loving and played his Fender Jazz Bass like none other. Fly away home to Zion, Fams. Rest easy until we meet again. Send love to Father King Joe Higgs, Bob, Carly, Seeco, Tyrone, Toots, and all the others. Helping lift up, fathers and mothers. Children fell in love from your first vibrating note. Who the Cap Fit is a song you wrote. When it comes to bass and love, my beloved, you were the G.O.A.T. Greatest Of All Time. You brought us joy and happiness with an infectious smile. Jah live, saw Fams, Jr. acting the role last night. Let me tell ayu, it was positively outta sight! Respect, blessed to send Aston, Sr. home. He was the best bassie from, Timbuktu, Trenchtown, Paris, Greenland to Rome.

Brother Aston Barrett Give Thanks for d Great Musical Genius Works You have given to us all these Years and Blessed Love Always. We’re loosing too Many Great Ones on this Earth.
