I finally get to drive an Aston Martin for the first time an in some style. In this video I put the 565 BHP V12 Vantage S Roadster through it's paces. I talk you through how to get the best from the Sports Shift III gearbox and compare it to other super sports cars I have driven this year.
Many thanks to Aston Martin Chichester for letting me play with their baby for the day. A day I will remember for a long time !

That is kind of you to say. When you know how to drive it the Sports Shift box is very engaging. When you get a shift right you feel part of the drive. I like that :-)

I have watched all the reviews available for this car and finally someone who understands why own all the options Aston Martin could have chosen for the gearbox, they intentionally chose this manual automatic. I bought a 2015 v12S and have not been disappointed. I am thrilled! Thanks again

Agreed. Best description of the difference between the sports hit and manual gearbox. I own a manual 6spd Vantage and absolutely love it.

Bloody fantastic Peter, thankyou so much for this video, just brilliant. I love Astons, for me they have a class and exclusivity that no other marque can match, beautiful cars that don't somehow have that slight vulgarity other supercars seem to have. Top man, roll on the DB11 review!

Really good video - it's nice to have a review that isn't all hyperbole and drifting. You took real care to make sure you were talking about the car but also about how you felt being with it - reminds me of some of the more evocative writing that Henry Catchpole has done in Evo. I think you are right, these cars are an end of an era and I hope to be able to afford one soon but to capture one in film is a wonderful thing. Keep doing what you are doing, it's a really good job.

Wow, thank you for such lovely feedback. That is the style and feel to my videos I am aiming for, talking about them from a drivers point of view. Any link to Henry Catchpole is flattering as I love what he does ! I am always trying to improve. I think this one was a little bit long but there was lots to say about this beautiful car.

Great review!! I have a V8VS with SSII & I really like the gearbox, it really suits the car! Yes it's not as quick as a DCT, but in the real world it's 90% & as an added bonus, there's a significant weigh saving over a dual clutch unit.

Great vid, I really love this car! I'm not a fan of soft tops in general but, this car still looks amazing. It was smart of you to actually research the car first, instead of just jumping in thinking every gearbox is the same. It seems ridiculous to assume all gearboxes should behave the same when every car behaves differently while driving. Great job!

Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it. It was a very special car and as I said in the video, once you understand the best way to drive it the whole package is very rewarding. The best thing about it not having a roof is that there is nothing to get in the way of that V12 noise...very special !

Loved your review, mate! Thanks for your thoughts on the gearbox, makes one reconsider it (for a future buy) after all the bashing it got. How would you compare this car to the V12 Vanquish you drove?

Oh wow...what a question ! The Vanquish sounded even louder and was a little more civilised. This Vantage had the advantage of being able to drop the roof. I'd have either in a heartbeat although having driven the DBS Superleggera last week (this Friday's video !) I have a new favourite Aston :-)

A truly stunning automobile, i have always said that an Aston Martin of some description would be my first choice of "lottery winnings" cars and after seeing your superb video it still is. I'm looking now at V8 Vantage or V12 DB9 with sport pack. I haven't driven the sport shift box and everyone I have spoken to have said steer clear of it. I like the idea of it though.

If you know have to drive it then it’s actually pretty good. Vantage over a DB9 for me 👍

What a Fantastic review clearly by someone who knows how to drive an Aston Vantage with the Sport Shift gearbox (which I have and prefer to any of the Double clutch cars on the road) So fed up with brainless 20yr olds who can't drive properly and will never own one unless it's wrapped in Rose Gold? It's not all about how quick you get to 60mph or 100mph but "How the Car Does It" and "How YOU Feel Doing It"

Hi Terry. Glad you enjoyed it and you are so right. The gear box in this car gives you faster changes than you could do fir yourself but connects you to the driving experience in a way a double clutch doesn't. I can't vouch for not being brainless but it's been a long time since I was in my 20s !!!!

Not a fan of the looks of all the modern Astons, but this car with it's comparatively compact size along with its beautiful shape and engine sound is a little bit special.

not a criticism of the contents...just advise on how to attract viewers. some people wont click to watch 20mins on anything on youtube unless they REALLY need to watch it
