I was there. The roar from the crowd when Andy Lochhead scored the winner was incredible. The start of 10 glorious years for the Villa culminating in becoming European champions.

I was a bournemouth supporter standing at the end where all the goals were scored and although we lost it was match not to be forgotten. As for Ted Macdougal he has become the only bournemouth footballing legend and no wonder 95 club goals in two seasons which will never be repeated.

Brilliant match, I was there, 16 years old...MacDougals goal was one of the best headers I've seen at Villa Park...Exocet missile came to mind. The atmosphere was second to none. The hairs still stand on the back of my neck watching it...

As an Oldham fan, I saw Villa win 6-0 at Boundary Park in 1971. Lochhead scored a hat trick, and became an Oldham player in 1973. Best goals were two long rangers from Bruce Rioch - what a performer to have in your side at this level. The game was on Granada TV's Sunday afternoon show, but I suspect the recording no longer exists.
@ILoveMusicfromthesonwards2 жыл бұрын
Sadly the footage of that Oldham game no longer exists, however ironically the Kick Off Match games shown the week before and the week after do exist in the ITV archives. ALSO Aston Villa's ONLY home game that season on Star Soccer vs Torquay United no longer exists, however Villa's ONLY away game featured vs Walsall does exists.

The left side for me also. But this was when the Holte wasn't segregated because of FA cup semi finals. Always looked amazing on tv when a goal went in and only half the Holte went crazy. those were the days. Always has been the greatest football stadium in England with the history to go with it.

I was at the Villa v Bournemouth match as a 15yo lad. It was a tense but ultimately triumphant afternoon. The crowd were just brilliant. Happy memories. I remember also Andy Lockhead leading out his Oldham team as their coach in a Second Div match at Villa Park several seasons afterwards when Villa were pushing for promotion. He got a standing ovation from all around the ground, especially from the Holte End, which he graciously acknowledged. A club legend had returned and the Villa faithful were not going to let him leave without letting him know that we remembered his contribution towards making the club proud again, when we had sunk to our lowest ebb several seasons before.

Just got back from seeing us lose, unluckily, at Spurs today and found this by chance. Really cheered me up. The Notts Counts game sill sticks in my mind as my dad had taken me to Harry Parkes shop to buy me my first Villa kit. No name on the back, not even a number, let alone league badges on the shoulders but I lived in it. Watching the Holte go crazy in this video and seeing the kids at Spurs today just reinforces the fact that not a lot changes. It wouldn't be the Villa if it did! UTV.

I think it was about 22,000, definitely over 20,000 and biggest end terrace in Europe at one stage.
@rainbowsix6602 жыл бұрын
@@trevorbradley8372 Before your day it was around 28K-32K but there'd be more inside because the turnstyle operators would be pocketing extra by letting kids in with their dads. Wolves' South Bank was I believe the biggest end in England.

Look at the Holte!! Incredible. Fans of today - many who wouldn't have even stood on terracing - have no idea what the Holte was like back then. Even the Witton End was huge but the Holte? Biggest and best in country. Liverpool? Ha ha ha.

48,000 against Bournemouth, 62,500 against United in the cup, average league gates of 30,000; makes Leeds Utd's gates this year look poor by comparison. I was there, it was just more fun than today! (yes I'm an old fart who prefers to stand on the terraces than stand by my seat next to the morons who prefer to boo than cheer). Give me proper footballers, not todays badge kissing nancy boys!

I was there as a kid, can you remember bloke that came at half time with his white coat on and white tray slung round his neck. Use to scare me going up stairs to stand on the Holte with my dad, glad I wasn't on the Witton end with that drop.

What division was Villa then? 2nd or 3rd? In the end of the video it seems that it was 2nd division. Anyway, it's outstanding how Villa Park looked that time around, 48.000 against Bournemouth!!!!! Fabolous old terraces. Here in Spain the terraces are gone as well, but I cannot understand British grounds without people standing up!!!
