Performed by Christian Dillig
This Tango is a part of the cycle Cuatro Estaciones Porteñas by the Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla (1921 -1992) in one movement for piano. Originally, there were four independent compositions, which Piazzolla later combined to form the cycle. Tango invierno porteñas thus portrays the mood in winter. In general, Piazzolla combined elements of classical Argentinean tango with those of European classical music and jazz to create his own style - and this is also the case here. A large part of Tango invierno porteñas is in a free tempo. But in between, the rigour of the tango shines through again and again. In part, I have adapted the playing of the eighth-note chains in the melody part to the rhythmic performance convention.
I also recorded the Tango to Summer (Verano porteño) from the same cycle:

The score is from the anthology "Tango Nuevo For Piano Solo Vol. 1", published by the German publisher TONOS Darmstadt, and it is still available there. It is an appealing collection of 10 newer tango compositions or compositions influenced by tango by the Argentinian composers Astor Piazzolla, Pablo Ziegler, Rodolfo Mederos, Saúl Cosentino, Osvaldo Requena and Miguel A. Varvello. I have recorded from the volume so far:
