A GCI Outdoor Camping Rocker Rock-Off: Which One Wins?

On this Airstream Life vLog, we get a few exciting packages in the mail. As many of you know we are ambassadors for GCI Outdoor because we love their products (and have bought a lot of them in the past). In fact, Steve's photo of our Airstream and our GCI Outdoor rockers was featured on their 2019 catalog cover and on the main page of their website. How cool is that?
Anyway GCI Outdoor has come out with two new rocking camping chairs this season and we knew we had to give them a try. We hoped to have special guests try them out with us but no such luck. However, we did give you a side by side comparison of 4 of their camping rocking chairs. You can find our review of their Freestyle Rocker, Roadtrip Rocker (both old version and new) and new Pod Rocker with sun-shade in this video.
Steve loves their Roadtrip Rockers. In our last rocking video from last year, he picked the Roadtrip over the Freestyle for it's high back, mesh, and cool rocking style. This year GCI Outdoor has released a new and improved Roadtrip Rocker. It now has really nice solid armrests (something the last one lacked) and even more mesh which means it's cooler to sit in on those hot summer evenings. Steve still loves the Roadtrips the best!
Courtney's previous favorite was their Freestyle Rocker. This rocker sits lower to the ground and doesn't have such a high pack. Courtney likes it because it is easier to rock for someone her size (shorter) but super comfortable. But the new Pod Rocker gives it a run for its money. The Pod Rocker is super comfortable. You can slouch down and easily take a nap...AND it comes with a sunshade which makes it perfect for rocking without getting too hot. It's only negative is the lack of a cup holder so when asked to pick between the two, Courtney says BOTH!
We highly recommend trying out a GCI Outdoor camping rocker and finding the one that works best for you! FYI we were sent these chairs for free as part of the ambassador program but we stand behind our recommendations and receive nothing if you buy from GCI Outdoor.

When we started our RV life, one of our first purchases was a pair of the Freesytyes that you had recommended some time ago. We still have them, use them all the time and love them. Thanks for your reviews and honest opinions.

I have both the Freestyle and the Roadtrip. Since everything for outdoors must fit into the back hatch of my 16’ Bambi Airstream, the Roadtrip is my fave! I can easily fit TWO of these into the hatch along with my rug, solar panels, water and electric hookup gear and small table!

We have a GCI Rocker like Courtney's red one. I will often sit in it in the camper if the weather is inclement. They are extremely comfortable, (and I'm 6'3" !!)

With no arm rest and lower to the ground us older folk, people with bad backs and bad knees will have a much harder time getting outta lower chairs and chairs with no arms. I have all 3 conditions and have just recently purchased the blue one and absolutely love it. Great video thx

Pod Rocker is my favorite as the most comfortable. The others look like Grandma's rockers.

I am considering the Roadtrip Rocker, but the little front "stoppers" lookliek it woudl impede full range of rocking motion. It also didn't appear that the Roadtrip Rocker was as easy to rock in, as the Freestyle. Thoughts?

If you want low consider the firepit rocker. I’m 5’6” and thought it was comfortable. You can kick your feet out in front of you.

The real test would be sitting down with a plate of food or standing up with one special for the chairs that are low to ground...

Curious how these will hold up long term. I have bought cheap folding frame cloth chairs before and it does not take long before the frame parts rip through the fabric. Looks like your original chairs are holding up well. Their website shows a retail of $75 for the Roadtrip which is not bad if it holds up. I am with Steve and it looks like the new blue Raodtrip would be my choice. I will have to check them out. In addition to REI, their website shows that they are carried in my area by Dick's Sporting Goods, Big 5 Sporting Goods, West Marine and one of my favorite stores, Sportsman's Warehouse.

Bruce H - I’m curious too, I had two rockers that I bought at Sam’s, one died on its first use. It was replaced by Sam's, but both broke within months of occasional use.

We've had some of their chairs and used them and abused them for 2+ years. They fade with time but everything still worked great and the canvas material held up.

COURTNEY, Please, please, please make a video on dropping pins into Google Maps. Not some "address" but a remote camping spot or countryside location. And how do I save it to My Maps? I can't tell you how many irritating videos I have watched and they all use city addresses and I can't make it work because the videos are old and Google has changed things. UGH. Please help.

Hi Angela. You should be able to put GPS coordinates into the maps search bar. Then it will place a pin on the map. Click the pin and add it to map. You should also be able to just click on a spot on the map (may need to sleect a different tool from the top first) and create a pin there. I don't do this as often but I remember doing it for this section of the course. SHoot me an email if you are having trouble and I can see what to do. courtney@astreaminlife.com

Agree that you kinda need one of each for different uses which is a deal breaker. These are not good on beach, sand or soft surfaces as they’ll sink. Also not much neck or lumbar support. 👎

Which is really weird, because I've had GCI chairs for many years with no fraying at all. Maybe they're transporting in way that makes it jostle around like crazy? Not sure....
