The project is complete, finished and polished. It has undergone all debugging and is now ready for partial disassembly and packing to its final destination. What you see here is twelve years of a master clockmaker's work. Buchanan is, in my opinion the finest living clockmaker in the world. This machine was completely hand-built by one man. There was collaboration on design, artwork, enamel dialing, case work and technical consultations, but the entire mechanicals were the work of Buchanan.
Congratulations, it has been one wild adventure, to have made this project with you, while halfway around the world and only twice seeing it during the years that it has been in your shop. I have been blessed to have met the only man who could and did build my dream without compromise and to have had the resources to make it come true. Not many men can make that statement.
You can see this and other videos and detailed photos of the machine here: www.my-time-machines.net/astro... .

There has been some, but these were primarily in specialty journals that deal with horology, clocks and time pieces. You can see downloadable .pdf files here: www.my-time-machines.net/papers_and_presentations.htm. There are also many specialty web sites that deal with model engineering and fabrication that feature the clock. One day I plan to write a small book on this creation.

@@MarkFrankclocks It's amazing, here's hoping one day I can be able to afford something similar to this. I could stare at it all day, I don't have the years dedicated to build one myself. I look forward to reading this book and appreciate you sending me the link. I will definitely check it out. Thanks!

I have always wanted to learn how to make this precious kind of machines ❤😭❤️ I used to think that the knowledge to make this kind of clocks and automatons ended up lost in time. It's mind-blowing for me to find someone else into this. ❤❤❤

One video, even an hour long, could not even scratch the surface, explaining the functions, the techniques and odd types of gears, and the unusual on-the-fly engineering that are part of this. Please hop over to the website with a section on this, and you can see hundreds of photos and detailed descriptions which show the entire journey from sketches, to a full-scale wooden mock-up, to construction and testing. Many, many other short videos, too, showing functions being demonstrated individually, which many of them can be.

So I was wondering why in this presentation why does the seconds hand seem to not be connected to the escapement. But when I first saw a video of this clock it looked like it was connected to the escapement. like it’s ticking like a quartz clock
@MarkFrankclocks
@MarkFrankclocks 4 ай бұрын
Ahh. That's a great question. Our original design had the seconds hand jump every two seconds in the same manner as the pendulums that are two seconds. A direct connection. Unfortunately for reasons that are too complex to describe here, there were instabilities introduced which caused the seconds hand to act erratically; to sometimes "skate" running 3 seconds on a beat rather than two. Sometimes jam up. So we introduced what we call a 'reverse coup perdu' escapement. In a coup perdu escapement a 1/2 seconds pendulum is converted to a one second readout. Here we convert a two second escapement to one. I believe it is a unique invention we developed. You can see it here: www.my-time-machines.net/astro_04-21.htm and here: www.my-time-machines.net/astro_05-21.htm . I'm rather proud of this invention and it makes the seconds output look like a chronometer, but we retain all the advantages of a slower moving escapement in terms of wear and duration.

@@MarkFrankclocks how.. just how can I single man come up with such genius ways to solve problems. that is incredible thank you for replying and explaining it.
@MarkFrankclocks
@MarkFrankclocks 4 ай бұрын
Thanks. The machine is like an onion, there are many layers to peel away and surprises waiting under each layer. For example, how do we obtain the reciprocal motion of a pair of compound pendulums that each weigh in at about 15 lbs. and which is virtually frictionless and requires no oil? One give away, it is not ball bearings, they do not work well in cases of reciprocal motion.
