Astroneer's teasers lead us to a new update: An Awakening Update!
In this video I'm going to talk about all the new stuff that comes with the update without too much spoilers.
stroneer is a wonderful game that the developers, System Era put a lot of love into. The developers are interactive and they come from a very genuine place, which is awesome!

Awesome video! Just a correction, EVA only lasts 5/15 minutes, half that of the snails. Possibly due to how powerful her ability is.

After finishing the Awakening update I started noticing shadows rushing across the ground. Almost like a flock of platforms. Anyone else seeing this or know more?

This looks so nice. Sadly I can't access all of this because the "through the looking glass" mission is broken on switch :( Can't wait till it gets fixed and I can actually play all of this

Feels like icing on a cake? Imo this is NECESSARY, the game wasn't finished... There's still no reason to automate anything... because nothing you need to complete in the game to unlock anything requires mass amounts of resources

I see it differently: To me, the game was finished when it was released, which we got to see the ending of unlocking all the planets. These extra updates that come to us at no extra cost, I see them as bonuses, which is why I am generally more appreciative of them. Though I agree with your criticism of the game, I disagree that it wasn't a finish product, we just drew the line differently. Nonetheless, I appreciate your perspective.

how do you get past the calidor part of the quest? when i place the fault finder, i get a cube around me and some lights are scattered. but i can't find the objects, i tried looking around on some layers below but with no success

The scattering will narrow based on where you are with the next fault. Basically you'll end up charting a star.

There is a bug in the update. Failure detectors are not loaded onto the exchange platform in any way.

I think the game engine that supports the terrain isn't ready to deal with dynamic AI movements yet. But we all would love a self-moving companion for sure!

Can some one explain to what is happening? So this update is coming? Or it is on yhe game already? It is only the part 1? Will they add a new solar systems? I don't understand English so well so thats why im asking, ive whach lots of videoa and i dont know if it's just a part o the update or it is the full update.

there is no new solar system or planets and you have to beat the game in order to start the missions and after that there is like no replay value

You can, you just need to follow the missions and you'll eventually get to the sun room

I've always enjoyed Astroneer and supported System Era with Q Bit purchases but I have to say, the updates are not mind blowing. About 2 years ago Joe said there would a huge update that will blow everyone's mind. It was supposed to release in the first quarter of the following year. That never did seem to happen unless they consider wind turbines and train rails "Mind Blowing". This update is nice but again ,nothing truly special. We need new planets or a new solar system all together. It's also high time to add water to at least one place. I asked the devs about water a long time ago and they said it will never happen because it's too much work and the framework of the game is to delicate. Well ,that answer never did sit well with me. So there's a hard limit with regards to how much they can build into the game in the future unless the remake it from the ground up as Astroneer ll or something to that effect.

I can understand the sentiment as a long-time fan who wants the game to thrive. At the present moment I am appreciating the bits of updates that comes to us at no extra financial costs. The devs still love the game they created, that I can tell, so I still hold a glimmer of hope that even though slow, the game is still getting better over time. This update is nice, it may not be truly special for most, but it's special to me that they still provide us with free updates :D Who knows what's next? More will come over time, we'll just have to be content for now.

@@SandVoxNate I respect and agree with most of what you said in your reply. It can be frustrating because there's enormous potential for this game and it seems to be stuck in the first couple of mile out of the gate.

Think about the physics system necessary for dynamic water when you can deform the terrain man.. can you name a single other game with water like that? If not then it's not really feasible for astroneer to do it. Imo the game needs more too, and the updates have been so blind. The game added automation and trains and stuff but there no REASON for any of it. You can build mega factories but there's no REASON to. Nothing demands mass amounts of resources... it's like the whole point of the game has been overlooked and they made resource management and power management systems we don't fully take advantage of the entire time while playing.

@@Acarinn You share a lot of good points about the dynamic water, and I too agree that the game needs more. The game is still suffering from growing pains, hopefully the development team eventually uncover the true essence of Astroneer. I personally think they need a terrain-building overhaul. I love to build, but the learning curve for building in Astroneer is too hard. People are drawn to the play-doh potential, but hardly anyone build with it. -- Maybe I'll make a video to discuss about it.

@@Acarinn Dynamic water may be difficult but static water would be a good start. They can code it to interact with certain items they can add in like pipelines to pump water from a lake back to your base to cool machines or mix with elements to create viscous, liquid fuels and other types of compounds. YLands is a voxel style game as well and that game and several others in that genre/ style have not just water but dynamic water. That's why (based on the response I received from the dev team member) I feel their delicate framework needs a total teardown and Astroneer 2.0 needs to begin development. They've learned a lot from this experience. Now it's time to put those lessons to good use.

Once you finished the Snail and Train missions, there should be a mission with EVA that brings you to the Sun Room

I think you have to finish all the achievements before you can access the awakening update

Follow along the missions, there's no need to rush, the Sun room expands the mission line so it's meant to be done in sequence.

At your own pace, follow along the normal missions and you'll eventually reach the new missions. There's no need to rush your enjoyment of the game. The update is near end-game content

The fact that you can only start this mission updates when you already unlock all planets, means 1% of players will actually enjoy this update. Because unlocking planets is the most annoying thing in the game and there is absolutely no way i''m doing that.

You can unlock each planet by unlocking one gateway chamber on the surface and the core, you don’t have to do all 6 surface gateways. Once you have plenty of RTGs you can unlock all of the planets in like 3 hours, it doesn’t really take to long.

@@Calthecool Yes, and you go to the core, where there is no gravity, and you and your car fly around with no control, you most probably lose the car. And have to climb that crazy core getting dizzy in the process. Still annoying, but anyway, how do you activate the core only unlocking one gateway? For me was never possible. Plus, how useless is to do that. The game lacks a decent story.

@@drac124 you can unlock the core with just one surface portal, then you make the key inside the core and activate it. unlocking both the portal and core takes about 10 minutes per planet and you dont have to loose your car just bring packagers to make the car into tiny boxes to fit in your backpack (you dont even need to use a car to drill just get a drill upgrade for the terrain tool and dig down to the core) its literally 10 minutes per planet and its also very fun, you can teleport to the surface right away with the gazing stone at the core too! no need for a backwards trip
