Coming from someone who bought this on early access all those years ago on PC this is a must buy for fans of the genre. Really love this game as it scratches that planet exploration itch I desperately need when on the go.

Game looks wonderful and is all the more meaningful knowing how much love was poured into it. Remember awhile back there being a mini documentary covering the loss of the development team. Definitely a title we should get behind and support!

Found the review after I bought the game. Lol. It looked up my alley and found some info about it before I dove in. Glad this got ported to Switch. It is a bit overwhelming at first but I'm liking it so far. Glad the review seems in line with my super early thoughts.

I am glad to know that this is a decent port as I really enjoy this style of game and have been waiting for a good space themed sandbox crafting game to come to switch. I will definitely be picking up a physical copy when it releases in Feb.

As a long time (and a lot of time) Astroneer player, I'm so happy with how they've brought this to the Switch. I'm surprised the Astropedia didn't make it into your review as it's so helpful for answering questions and tying things together a bit. With an amazingly complete description of the Astroneer Basics (shown when you first disembark), Planets, Resources, Hazards plus several Tutorials, it's really a valuable resource. Even for long time players like me, I will sometimes pop this open to remind myself what the icon for a given resource or planet looks like or what planets have which resources and where. Its especially valuable to new players... check it out in the main menu (+ key on Switch) at the Rocket icon. Thanks for an otherwise great review. I think you really did it justice here. :)

I've played Astroneer for around 50 hrs, and it's fun & enjoyable. Your scores are something I can agree with as well. Good video!

I have absolutely loved this game since I got it. It's just so much fun exploring, when you are in a massive cave system and your little torch shines a light on part of a big vaulted ceiling feels special. Pop in etc doesn't bother me, I was reading again today someone saying how bad they thought it was and made the worlds seem empty. Then I was just looking at my son playing it on PC and I really couldn't see the difference! Lucky for me I guess. In fact he has always played in creative but today he started a new game in adventure and he has already got a massive base, onto second planet etc! I was thinking earlier about when looking at my younger son playing Minecraft how good it is to have those two modes. Someone not so confident can start out in creative getting to know the systems, mechanics etc so that when they start a survival/adventure run they know roughly what to do.

Grabbed this game as soon as it dropped, and while I can definitely see its potential to be fun/addictive, right now I'm more frustrated/daunted than anything else. This game really doesn't do the best job of explaining its systems. I played No Man's Sky upon its initial release - back before they improved the tutorial immensely - and felt far less confused by that game than by this one. I actually had to put an hour or so of research into watching tutorials online before I understood enough to complete even the first half dozen tasks in game, and the mechanics still are not completely clear to me. Also, I *hate* the terrain manipulation tool. It feels clunky. The cursor always seems to either move too fast or too slow, and it's difficult to dig precisely where and how I want. I feel like the controls were designed much more for PC than console, and need more fine tuning from the devs to really feel "right" with a controller. That said, I do think there's a lot of good in this game. I think it could be quite enjoyable if I can force myself to push through the whole "learning the mechanics" and "adjusting to the controls" bit. As it stands, I'm honestly not sure if I'll do that. Which is too bad, as this was one of my most anticipated releases this year for the Switch.

I’ve been waiting for this one for a LONG time. I played beta on pc years ago and love the direction they took with it. Years ago I dreamed I could play this on switch; this week my dreams came true. Controls are a little tough to get used to but overall this game is fantastic.

I never knew that the lead artist had past away. I've been playing this since it was available on steam.

My personal archetype is Explorer. In WoW I was the guy who jumped off tall waterfall, or swam around the continent, just to see what was there. This game looks VERY compelling to me.

I love this genre of co-op survival. The art style in this one is pretty interesting too

Really enjoying it so far. Its nice to have something that is open world and challenging but not necessarily stressfull like dying light. I love space games, the visuals are great and the interaction is deep. My only real complaint is that the controls could use some work; they’re not horrible, but moving and manipulating objects can be difficult at times. There is also a bit of a learning curve, but once you get into it the game really starts to open up.

One of my favorite games on pc in this genre. Always go back to it 😆.. it’s def came a long way since it’s early stages!!

The pop in when your in a vehicles seems huge to me on this one. Usually pop in doesn't bother me much, but man this seems very noticeable in this game! Everything else seems like a great game that would be super fun with friends!

This game is pretty unique. I don't think gameplay videos does it justice. It's immersive and even though there's no combat, the sense of exploration and basic survival needs can make it feel intense at times. There's always incentive to keep exploring and upgrading.

You don’t need to manually put items in a printer, you just need to have the resources in your backpack. I haven’t played it on switch yet but on other consoles if you press left trigger while using the terrain tool you can control it more freely with right stick.

I haven’t played this since early access, all the updates are amazing and I’m so happy it’s on switch. Now I can’t wait for No Mans Sky to come, which I think is closer to this than Minecraft.

Looks very intriguing, reminds me of Subnautica somehow. The controls would be key, there are lots of games that are let down by their controls system But a possible purchase for me.

So you land on an alien planet, you find monoliths, you can customise your space helmet and suit etc. You build and explore. I thought I was listening to a review of no mans sky on the switch for a moment 😄

playing a very early version of this game before auto extractors etc was one of the most fun experiences I've ever had. I don't lik some of the changes and how easy and spoilery the game is now (quests tell you everything!) playing it with my ex was the most magical experiance of my life on PC ;3

The game is great but it’s hard to get into/ understand as it is pretty complicated with its gameplay but when you get good Jesus it’s so addicting

Space crafting sandbox...music to my ears!!! This one will have to wait unfortunately for a sale since I can play it on GamePass and $30 is too much to just have the on the go option . The other question I have, and maybe I missed it, does the game support cross platform play?

In survival crafting games, I prefer not having any story at all. I played Dragon Quest Builders 2 because I liked the crafting and room mechanics of the game but after I finished the story, I lost my interest on building stuffs which sucks because I was there for the building not for the story 😅

I wanted to get this on PS4 but many people seem to complain that the frame rate is horrible, especially when you have many tethers out. Does the Switch version really run better than the PS4?
