@Bd from the 213 Of course they can help AND SHOULD help. But demanding an amount of money when he doesn't even have enough to support their family, telling her to mind her business and expecting Kelani's family to have the responsibility to support HIS family is another thing. Having a second child was definitely not the best decision from them but they can't change that now and Kelani's is not giving money to her family it is the other way around. When he makes enough money to support his family and give the extra, then I don't see an issue.

It’s sad cause this happens a lot. My dad and my mom moved here for a better life and they work a lot. They have to make enough money for 6 kids and struggle with money. (not a lot tho) but there famailies back home think that they are entitled to my parents money and that it’s super easy to make money in America. It’s not easy when you didn’t get to go to high school as a kid cause you had to do farm work.

It is though. It's just in the US we have safety nets that keep most of us afloat. These other countries don't have food assistance, cash aid, social security, unemployment benefits, pensions, housing assistance, 401k etc. Yall are being HIGHLY judgmental of places and cultures you couldnt begin to understand.

This is why I don’t believe in the “Mom comes first, then your wife” saying. Once you become a husband or wife, your PARTNER comes first. You are building a new home, life, family from the ground up with your partner so THEY come first. Your parents/siblings/etc. come second because they already have their own lives and homes established. Asuelu’s sister is full of shit pulling the “mom comes first, not your wife and kids” card. Does she send money home? Does she work? Does she care about if Asuelu’s kids are okay? Good for Kalani for standing up for herself and her boys. Asuelu needs to take care of his wife and babies FIRST, not greedy mommy and sister.

My husband tried pulling the same shit when I first met him, he said that in our culture a mother should always come first. I said I agreed and that after we got married I will always put my mom before him. Lol hes put me first ever since then, its pretty straightforward for me - treat me the way you want me to treat you. I don't mind if my man wants to put his mother first but I can assure you I will be doing the exact same thing!

@King Julien in those countries they always advise men not to even marry until they are financially stable because they know they have a duty of care towards their own children too. Aseulu married for the green card and was probably pushed by his family to do so too, he should have been the one who was open and honest to Kalani from the start that he wasn't financially ready for children yet. Hes the problem here and his family are straight up selfish for asking for money when they know hes on minimum wage right now.

I have family in the motherland that also wants me to send money beyond my means. I sent them enough money to start off a small business and never spoke to them again when they asked for more. They don't want to progress and work towards continuous growth. They just want continuous cash flows by doing nothing from their so- called "obligated" family members in America. Asuela, it's time to sever that umbilical cord. There is no understanding or reasoning with people like this.

And imagine he gets a full time job they’re going to be asking for more than 1,000.
