I have the N46V but this video was still very useful to me. It gives me an idea of how to do and what to expect when I try and get inside as I have a very noisy fan which needs looking at. I am otherwise very happy with the laptop as it has so far given me 2 years of excellent service. I have little or no inclination to upgrade to another at this stage but I'd like a faster HDD, it currently has a 5400rpm. Again, many thanks for the upload.

To unplug and plug the speakers and LCD cables easier there is a small hatch under the battery, towards the center of the laptop. Just pull it out and there are two holes for LCD and speakers cables.

When I bought my N56VM, I changed out the HDD to an SSD at the same time. It has been in daily use for 5 years, and is still behaving like a beast. Allthough the GPU is not that powerful, it get my work done. I also reccomend removing all the stickers beneath the keyboard for a more stylish look.

My screw to remove the optical drive doesnt seem to come out, all the others are fine but this one just wont move. Is there any other way to remove the optical drive?

hello, do you know if there is any thermal pad on CPU or GPU in n56vm? or is there only paste? what with GPU memory? what thickness of pads should i look for?

I found that needed to open the chassis and wedge a lump of Blu tax under the power input socket. This had the effect of forcing the power adapter jack to sit at a slight angle and therefore make a good connection. It was fiddly but it has done the job. I'd tires a new psu but this made no difference.

if you notice after you take the battery out there is a thin black plastic cover that un-clips, this reveals the connectors you are trying to un-clip with a screw driver... it's much easier...

A guitar pick works best for removing those plastic clips. Get some different sized picks just cheap ones, will do fine.

the design is good on this laptop. the LVDS cable is short but that's how it is. you can reach it by using a small flat screw driver to put it in place and snap the connector to the mainboard, really not that hard as you think it is, will only took me 3 seconds to do it.

Good bye card reader! You forgot to remove the dummy SD card while prying the bottom, and most likely broke the whole card socket.

you're best off just opening it up, brushing the fan then using a vacuum cleaner on it to remove the dust, I do this once every couple months to mine and I notice the temp drop every time (I have the cpu and gpu temps in my notification area of the start bar) :)

Gorgeous video. Pretty much a tricky computer. Sadly though there is not room for upgrades to accept Windows 11. They don't build computers like they used to. My brother refurbished one for me in 2016. Saying it would be compatible for windows 11 Not even close. Next generation core i7 Intel processor does not fit. The OS build date showed 2016, however the platform is 2012. Really frustrating when I downloaded the PC health app and looked at the bios. Too slow of a processor. Sadly even a year after the release of windows 11 ( October 5, 2021). There's going to be a lot of crashes with windows 10. Windows 10 is even too much of a load for this computer. They just don't build computers like they used to or laptops. This one and other N56 series will find their way into landfills shortly. Good informative video even though it's been over 7 years lol

still ising my n56v (Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3610QM CPU @ 2.30GHz 2.30 GHz) for my daily work (windows 10/21H2) - only thing I have done is replace the wi-fi card with one that works with 5GHz... # I might have also have upgraded the RAM, it currently has 8GB, not sure if it came with that - I forget.. This worries me, I spilled tea over the keyboard. The keyboard doesn't work anymore. If I type one key it shows me a random key on display (sometimes even two). I'm very glad that the Laptop is still usable (via usb keyboard) BUT I really want to fix it since my Laptop is practically immobile since then. Who wants to carry a laptop with a seperate mouse and keyboard with him all of the time? Seeing that the keyboard side of the laptop has the mainboard etc. on it, makes me reluctant to even try something :(

What the video doesn't show you is what a b#@!h it is to reconnect the LCD cable when you're putting it back together. There isn't enough slack on the cable to fit my hand between the bottom case and the palmrest to push the connector back in... I repair laptops for a living and this is one of the worst designs I have seen in terms of serviceability.
