In this video we take a look at Asus's ProArt 4080 Super, a more creator-oriented graphics card for desktop PCs. We unbox it, install it into my NZXT case, and test its thermals with some gaming.

is it me or are most of the rtx 40 series cards just ugly? with the exception of this pro art card and the msi expert, I feel like they're too blocky and tacky.

It's due to Nvidia's restrictions to AIB partners. Partners have a tough time making any profit on their models. And Nvidia makes things worse by the Founders Edition price gouging many AIB partner models. So many are forced to just slap on a cheaper generic cooling design, to stay in profit territory. One of the reason EVGA ended their partnership with Nvidia, there's just no room for profitability, and with no alterations allowed regarding power delivery etc. Virtually no card is that much different to the rest, just RGB and branding.

I'm curious about something, regarding the extra bought cable, in this case Corsair I believe. I guess the 4080super doesnt require *too* much power. But looking at the 'dongle' that comes with the card, and comparing it to the store bought Corsair one. The Corsair only has 2 pcie to go into the PSU. While the 'dongle' (forgot the actual name lol) that comes with the card, has 3 (that turns into 1 12vhpwr). Is using only 2 pcie 'cables' sufficient ? I mean sure the card ran and all. I dunno, hence me asking ;) I guess the 3-to-1 'dongle' that comes with the card, just has that extra pcie for ..fun? "futureproofing" ? I guess I'm just a bit uncertain, seeing that the included connector has 3(to 1) versus the Corsair one only has 2(to 1) connectors. Which if I'm not terribly wrong here, means the Corsair cables can transfer only 2/3 of the 'juice' compared to the included 12vhpwr? But maybe that's really enough for the 4080super. But probably not for, for example 4090, as I'm pretty sure that one needs 3x pcie? No idea if I made any sense whatsoever lol Guess the super short version is, card comes with the 'dongle' which is 3pcie to 12vhpwr. But the - in this case - corsair only has *2* pcie. Isn't that a bit weird. Or is that 'extra' pcie connector that comes with the card just there for show? I know it's been a while since this video was up'ed, and all, so I'm not expecting anyone really to bother with my comment. But an answer would ease my mind quite a bit, as it's exactly the proart 4080super I would get, if I get the 'itch' soon. (one could argue that *now* it's just better to wait for the 50-series..but..meh)

8-pin PCIe is rated for 150 watts so according to spec two of them would be good for up to 300 watts. However that depends on the cable quality and also your PSU. For example Seasonic sells cable with only two PCIe connectors for their PSUs, but says that it's good for 600 watts, so Seasonic is confident that their PSUs can give 300 watts per connector even if spec says that 150 watts per connector is maximum. I've read that 4080 Super can draw a bit over 300 watts, so according to spec your would need three PCIe connectors, but with good quality cable and PSU two can be enough. (ps. NVIDIA 4090 FE card actually comes with 4-to-1 cable since according to spec that connector is 600W but each PCIe is only 150W so if going by the spec four would be needed for full power.)

It is the peerless assassin 120. Fantastic cooler for the price but the fans have a slight whine so I am going to swap them out

@504Trey Yes I did. I made sure I removed all old software for my old 3080 graphics card. I had no issues on installation other than the connector that comes with the card was too short so I ordered the exact cable I needed for my EVGA 850 power supply. No issues so far and going on two weeks now. I haven't had a chance to play with it fully but I plan to on my next off days.

Hi Mate, I'm about to grab one of these and I currently have a EVGA 3080 along with a 850w Corsair RM850x ATX PSU, Do you know if I purchase that white cable you used and have linked will it swap over and work with my PSU? I've searched and didn't quite see an answer for it

Yes mate, your rm850x uses type 4 cables so the cable I linked works perfectly. It comes in a few colours too. Just make sure you don’t get the newer type 5 cables, they are smaller. I used a rm650x in my video and the sf range also use type 4 cables

Hi Mate, Nice video. Do the card have coilwine or any sissing noise? And you have the formd t1? What are the systems specs that you will use for the formd t1?

Thanks mate. I can't hear any coil whine in the ATX case whilst gaming and the system is incredibly quiet. I want to do an all air build in the T1 so it will be 7800x3d with AXP90-x47 full copper, Asus b650i, fury ram and a sf750. Just got all the parts so will start he video later this week

Its my only 4080 super but I also have: inno3d 4070ti super, pallit 4070, zotac 4070, game rock 3080, Asus 3060ti twin and AMD 6800 reference card

I just bought it today and its amazing. Did the benchmark on Cyberpunk max settings maxed RT, it ran beautifully and only got to 74°c. Very happy with this card.

Great review. I purchsed this exact card. Havent arrived tho. I have a pro art z790 mobo (those thunderbolts are a god save for me for my pen displays) and im really exited to take my actual 3070ti out and replace with this beauty.

Greetings. I am going to buy this one. Please answer, will Asus Rog Thor Platinum II 850W PSU be enough? Also, I prefer my pc to be extremely quiet. I own rtx 4070 and it's known for its quietness, cool chip that never goes above 60-65°. Will this GPU satisfy those requirements? I am insane and will connect it with 1080p monitor btw 😂

🤣 only as insane as me! I still often connect to my 1080p 360hz monitor! Temps and fan noise have been great in my NZXT H5 flow which has pretty good airflow, if you also have a good airflow case I think you will also be pleased

Couldnt help notice you run this gpu with a 650w PSU even though Asus recommends 850w... I see youve mentioned in the comments that it's fine if your PSU is good quality, but I would still be worried? 😮 Anyway, what is the specs of the rest of your computer?

MY corsair RM650x is a more premium PSU so I have no worries but regardless I am in the process of moving it to an ITX so will need a SFX PSU soon. The rest of the specs are i7 12700k, z690 mono, 32gb ram, 2x 2tb m.2 and 1x 2.5" 4tb

If it is a high quality psu you will be fine! I am actually running mine on a rm650x which most people would recommend again but as it’s a decent psu it’s fine

it doesn't have the gamer tag or look all over it. There isn't anything internally that makes it more creator focused, its smaller than most 4080s. Its all cosmetic mostly lol.

yes it sure can and vice versa with other Nvidia 4000 series cards, you can choose if you want to install game ready or studio drivers :)

well the gaming OC is a great card providing you can fit it! it takes over 4 slots!! the pro art still performs well but is only 2.5 slots therefore fits more cases

I bought it from Novatech on release day. Stock seems to have dried up so everyone has put up their prices now 😢 hope it improves soon as the price was the only thing going for the 4080 super!

i want 4080 super pro now im on 6800 but 4080 far better and also 5000d airflow allows two slot gpu for vertical only most 7900 xtx dont do it so this model should work

I have a query about the power cable. Original cable has (W-shape) 3x 8pin connectors.. and the corssair one is only have (Y-shape) 2x 8pin connectors.. will this be an issue? do we require all 3x 8pins like in the original cable? as there is a 4 micro pins used for sensing power connectors, so 3x sensor pins will be connected from the original W-cable (whereas corssair will only have 2x sense pins in the 4 pin micro connector? So, will that cause any problems? (SUBSCRIBED) 👍👍

hey mate, thanks for the Sub and in answer to your question. The adapter that comes with the card just connects to the 3x 8 pin PCIE connectors leading to a messy bulky ugly solution. This cable from corsair replaces the PCIE cables direct to the PSU so actually works better with this solution because there is less mess and less connectors between the PSU and card plus less strain on the 12VHPR connector as the cable is more flexible. All the pin outs are exactly the same

But I don't understand why you can go from [PSU] 3x8 PCIe pin => [GPU]12VHPR using the original gpu adapter to the [PSU] 2x8 PCIe pin => [GPU]12VHPR using the custom cables. Why is it possible to use just 2x8 pins instead of 3x8pins?

The plugs on the PSU side are not equal to the plugs on the GPU side. As an example if you look at your PSU cables you will probably have an GPU power cable coming out of your PSU to 2x 8 pin gfx power connectors (which are daisy chained). Imagine you used both of those to the adapter and then another cable for the 3 required connector you can see your have done the same thing. Does this make sense? it is hard to explain over text without showing it

@@mashextra Yeah thanks for explaining. I think I get it. In/out pins are just about compatibility. As long as the GPU can pull the necessary power and the cable can withstand it then anything goes.

I sure am! But in all seriousness this is a quality PSU and I have actually had heavier systems running on it, the 4080 super is only drawing about 300w of power and the CPU about 100w

Yes, it’s exactly the same performance as any other 4080 super but designed to fit more of a creator look. Gaming is amazing on it and it also cuts through my video editing 👍

Haha I know nvidia don’t recommend it but those Corsairs with Japanese caps are amazing. Plus you have no idea what I have got away with in the sf range for itx’s 😂
