For light video editing, would you suggest adding the 16gb and losing dual channel, or would it be more beneficial to stick with the stock 8gb?

i have upgraded mine upgraded 20GB as i belive it has benefited my 1080p rendering source footage is 4k. so im happy to lose the dual channel preformance. Also helps with games that use over 10gb of ram to run anyway

@@rickstechrepairs awesome, thanks! Do you use proxies? I figured I shouldn't expect much when it comes to editing, but I'm a little intrigued. Do you feel the display lacks in terms of the colors it displays, and does the glossy style get distracting?

proxies in what way? the 4700U is a great little power house, but it would depend on what content you want to edit, im doing 1080 renders of videos that go between 2-20minutes and with simple cuts and fades. for this task it has been great color accuracy is something I'm not interested at this point but from what i read the screen isn't very accurate The Glossy style i dont mind too much apart from using the laptop in the afternoons on a couch with the sun behind me, i tend to angle the screen a bit more when i do that to avoid glare

how much VRAM is dedicated to the iGPU after the ram upgrade? i have an hp envy x360 13" with same CPU but with 8gb ram and VRAM for iGPU is just 512mb, not upgradable... im looking forward to your answer so i can decide wether upgrade to the vivobook or not!

The issue i had, was the applications and games i was trying to use and play where being Ram restricted So i went with 4GB Soldered + 16GB Sodimm. From what i have read this runs the ram in Dual Channel Flex Mode, 4+The first 4GB are in dual Channel the remaining 12GB isnt in dual channnel but usable

I have a TM420IA-EC031T in Vietnam and it's also with Intel 8265 (means that only wifi 802.11ac and bluetooth 4.2). Can I replace it with AX200? Is there any software/driver problem?? Thank you

On the ASUS website it says that this laptop supports up to 16GB of RAM. Since 4GB is already on the board, would anything bad happen if I added a 16GB RAM stick and brought the total up to 20GB? Or should I just add an 8GB stick and not max out the RAM? Also is this video also applicable to the VivoBook Flip 14 TM420UA?

Mine is running 20gb just fine I lose dual channel performance but I was being limited by ram. So single channel performance on most things at 20gb of ram is better than dual @ 8gb

Hey were there any driver issues with reinstalling windows and the asus software on the laptop? I want to upgrade my ssd to 1tb but want to make sure I keep the touchscreen and pen system working flawlessly. Also when you upgraded your ram did you keep dual channel speed or did it go to single channel?

when i reinstalled it i didnt have an issue With the mis-match amount of ram its running in FLEX Mode, "Once you switch on dual channel mode (also called flex mode), it will perform as two 4GB sticks running side by side in optimal performance. The remaining 4GB of the new stick will run in single channel mode. Overall, it's not as fast as using two sticks of the same size, but it's still faster than what you had before." so basically not as good as dual channel, but ok

i added 1x16GB 3200mhz to give me a total of 20GB the First 4GB runs in dual channel and the reminder runs as single channel Google Dual Channel Flex Mode

I’ve had mine for about 3 weeks now, and i dont regret buying it. The only problem i’m having is the hello windows does not work. It says that the option is currently unavailable. Because of this i cannot optimize the finger print sensor. Can you please help me fix this problem?

He puts 16GB in add a 4GB of native ram unchangable. But ASUS reports the max RAM available is 16GB.

I have 2 4GB sticks in my laptop, one is soldered in. ASUS said that my laptop has a maximum RAM capacity of 12GB. Would it be alright to add a 16GB stick and ran 20GB of RAM instead of the recommended capacity? Would it work? I have an ASUS X515EP laptop. If not, would my only option be to get an 8GB stick and run 12GB of RAM total?

yes you would loose dual channel. But if you have a program or a game that uses more than 8GB, it will run better with more ram than with dual channel

Ricks Tech hello. I have the same Asus model laptop. It doesn't charge, it starts charging maybe for few seconds then ( x) appears inside the battery charging icon and goes off . Could you please help me with this issue? Kind regards

in this instance, i would open and disconnect/remove the battery after that i would connect up power and try and turn on if all is good after that i would reconnect the battery and try again

Then I went to Device Manager and disabled the battery. Now it works with cable. But not without. Did I do the right thing? Or how to make it work with the cable and battery? Many thanks in advance ☺

I think your RAM setup (16GB + 4GB) still has better performance than 4GB + 4GB .. I've read about flex mode RAM, you can still get dual channel performance for the first 8GB ,. The remaining 12GB will have single channel performance. Cmiiw

correct! the 4+4GB is still too limited, no point having dual channel performance when you have maxed out your ram and your system is struggling

Just want to tell you be careful with the battery connection. Since the connector is easily came off and if it came off and it touched the board it will short the board Just sharing my experience here

So i put a 32 gb gskill in it and it would not boot just black screen. I also bought a 16gb stick and it still wont boot any idea whats preventing it from working?

The maximum capacity for the system (ryzen vivobook flip) is about 33gb, that is why adding a 32gb stick will result in the system not booting up. The best would be adding 16gb.

@@jinocalma8277 When Asus says max 16 gigs of ram they mean if anything over 16 gigs it can decrease battery life. But they limit it with a number they dont mention.

Too much important the dual channel configuration for Ryzen processors, it's just a good to sacrifice have to lose it, thank to Asus for its crazy choices.

@@rickstechrepairs better have the first 8gb dual channel and the other not? I can't see any advantage with this, only what is never suggested: we will have mixed kind of RAM, this is not better, 2 slots would be better, with or without soldered RAM, I find, for example, the HP solution just perfect (2 slots).
