This was so annoying. I regret watching this whole damn thing considering there was no specific answer of who the song was supposed to be about. In the very beginning you stated she finally gives the answer of who this song is about, but all you did was keep us hanging with no answer to be found.

The most unforgivable factual error in this video is at the end where it says that if I've watched it until the end I must've enjoyed it. No way. I've enjoyed giving it the ripping-to-shreds that it deserves. Why am I allowed to hit only ONE "dislike"? I need millions of them.

14:21 - So this is the answer to the question "How can this video get worse?" that I asked below. Jagger sang BACKING vocals (BACKGROUND, or BACKUP) vocals on the "You're So Vain" record. This video says that he sang BACKWARDS vocals. At this point I'm beginning to think that this video is packaged by a company who has no employees whose first language is English, and so while they know, in their own language, the difference between backwards vocals and backing vocals, they don't know that in English the terms "backing vocals" and "backwards vocals" are two entirely different things. If this narrator is an actual person he's the most uneducated person I've ever met. Or else the script-writer is. Or they're tied for it.

What kind of proofreader doesn't find an error like that just JUMPING off the page at them? Sloppiest work I've ever seen.

7:30 - The motion footage shown here is NOT Marvin Gaye (although the stills are). This person is Smokey Robinson. Marvin Gaye never looked anything LIKE Smokey Robinson at this time of Mr. Robinson's life, and NOBODY ELSE looks like this. Any fool should have been able to look at this and say "That's Smokey Robinson, not Marvin Gaye".

As my Hispanic friends would say: "There have been a lot of tamales in that taco." It is a good thing that she and Jagger never produced a child, can you imagine what it's mouth would look like?

So, after all of this, the video omits the two biggest clues: "And your horse naturally won". Or is it "And your horse (Naturally) won". Someone should go after the ownership records of race-horses and find out if there's ever been a registered race-horse named "Naturally", and then find out who owned it. It could be Warren Beatty or it could be one of the other two people. The second clue is that in the 21st century re-recording of the song she changed the line "You had me several years ago when I was still quite naïve" to "You had me SEVEN years ago when I was still quite naïve". So, go back seven years from the time she WROTE the song.

I didn't care if it wasn't anybody at all. I did see the total eclipse of the sun she referred to in the song only in Virginia Beach, VA. instead of Nova Scotia, March 7,1970.

At some point the narrator said "the Stamford house", and some AI device heard the words "the Stamford house" and went off half-cocked and found this building. And it's not even the right name. The narrator said "the Stamford house". This building's name is NOT "The Stamford House". It's just "Stamford House" with no "The". How will this video get any more slipshod than it has gotten at this low point? I'm sure that as I continue to watch I will find out.

8:26 - The narrator should have said that Jack Nicholson (John Joseph Nicholson) doesn't have an "r" in his name (and so cannot be a candidate), and that omission further reduces the quality of this narration. Nicholson has the "a" if you call him "Jack", or course, and two "n"s. But the absence of the "r" rules him out and you should have said so.

To be true, any time I hear it I feel she's speaking to me! Am I not so vain? (and think that the song is about me)? Well, that's it!! kinda of a fine trick.

I think entitling a song as "You're So Vain" with the lyric following that being - "you 'probly' think this song is about you" - when in fact, it IS about that person, is more contradictory than any song I know of. And it blows my mind that I'm the only one who ever noticed this - in MY world. I'm sure I'm not the only one who ever noticed this EVER. I would even guess that Ms. Simon saw this contradiction (or question) when she was writing it and simply thought it to be good writing because it's "artistically ambiguous." No, it's a contradiction.

Now, I haven't listened to any of the bit about Kristofferson yet, but I will wager that the narrator doesn't ever TELL us that "Kristoffer Kristofferson" has no "a", and that rules out Kristofferson beyond all doubt. (And at 9:27 I find out that I'm correct, the narrator will not mention the missing "a". "Cretin narrator" has an "a", an "r", and an "e", so maybe this Cretin Narrator is the person the song is about. And, he's not ashamed by doing such an abysmal job on this video, because he's so vain that he thinks he is competent.)

5:52 - I believe Warren pronounces his last name "BATE-tee", not "BEAT-tee". Anyway, more pathetically bad research: Simon told People! Magazine that the second VERSE is about Warren Beatty. This atrocious video says that the second LINE that is about Warren Beatty. Such an amateurish bungle.

It consistently uses the object pronoun to match the sex (or gender, if you will) of the SUBJECT performing the action, not the OBJECT having the action done TO it or them. So because Simon is a woman, if Simon speaks to a man, Simon is speaking to HER. Most normal English-speakers sex that pronoun to match the person to whom it refers, so that if you (regardless of whether you are male, female, or other) are speaking to a man, you say "HIM", not "HER".
