I really love this chanel and of course the contents that they've been making. I'm from Vietnam, where English isn't common, and isn't spoken in daily life, and it's hard for a huge amount of people to learn and improve their English themself. Even though, I can sense that the contens that you both have made, very useful and practical, I listen to it with my earbubs every morning comuting to work and on the way back home, in oder to learn more or less from listening I appriciate it, nnd hopefully there will be many more videos from both of you, my teachers 😊

Thank you for the lesson. I have a question, what is the difference between "order the lunch menu" and "order OFF the lunch menu"? 😊
@highlevellistening
@highlevellistening 4 күн бұрын
Great question! In some restaurants they stop serving lunch after a certain time, so there’s a lunch menu and a dinner menu. If you’d like to choose one or two items from the list of items on the lunch menu we say order “off” the menu. If we order the lunch menu this sounds like they only have one option for lunch and we’d like to order the one option. Or if you want to order every item on the lunch menu! Order the (entire) lunch menu. Hope that helps!

I just don't get the meaning of asking "Do you serve breakfast all day?" For what I know, breakfast is the first meal and then comes the lunchs, then the dinner. So if the evening has passed, why would we need a breakfast any more. Another sentence getting me confused is "Could I order off the lunch menu?". I just don't know what that means. Hope somebody could help me understand these sentences better.
@highlevellistening
@highlevellistening 3 ай бұрын
Hiya, I think I can help, it’s becoming more common for restaurants to serve breakfast items over lunch or even longer as breakfast and lunch become brunch. So if there’s a dish available in the breakfast section you could order it at 2pm if they offer breakfast all day. For the second question: usually there’s a breakfast section or breakfast menu and a lunch menu around lunchtime, usually around 11/1130 restaurants switch over to lunch so maybe they stop offering breakfast or lunch isn’t available yet so you can ask to make sure Hope that helps!

Hi, thanks for the video. I would just suggest you two use the same words in each sentence, which is good for the viewers to see the difference of pronunciation. Unless, of course, when there are different words for the same thing that are used differently in each country.

@@highlevellistening And, to be honest, in my opinion, it is not a big deal if a non native uses the American or British pronunciation, since the communication happens. However, sometimes, it can be a bit embarrassing. My first time in the Netherlands, I was visiting a huge building, and asked for the restroom. The lady understood "restaurant". She replied: there is no restaurant in this building. I understood: no restroom... I tought: whaaat!!! Since then, I always use toilet, which is a french word that is almost the same in English, French, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, German, Dutch... And more, days ago a friend of mine told me in a very polite way: Flavio, "cell phone" is in the US, we use "mobile"...
